GROWING,TRANSFORMING, IMPACTING LIVES
On April 26, 1940, thirteen Christians migrated from South Carolina. They believed in Jesus Christ and being spiritually inclined, established the Carolina Missionary Baptist Church, believing that, “Where two or three are gathered together in my name, there I am in the midst of them.”

In January 1952, while under the leadership of Reverend Sligh, the church moved to 777 Morton Street, NW. During a remodeling effort in 1966, Carolina Church worshipped at the Odd Fellows Hall until completion of the renovations in November 1966. Reverend Sligh continued to serve as pastor until 1969.
Reverend Love James was installed as pastor in May 1970. He provided loyal leadership in creating avenues by which the church burned the mortgage utilizing the Women’s Ministry as the vehicle that brought this goal to reality. The Mortgage Burning Service was held on December 5, 1976. Reverend James faithfully until February 1977.
In 1979 a Building Fund and Expansion Fundraising Committee was organized. Later that year, the church was able to purchase eight lots that were adjacent to the church for $127,000. By 1980, the church had grown immensely. This growth created the need for a full-time pastor and Reverend Gilbert was brought on full-time. Carolina Church continued to make great strides in their struggle, “Believing that all things are possible…” and made the final payments on the eight parcels of land in September 1981. Reverend Gilbert concluded his pastorate in October 1985.
At a critical juncture in the life of the church, the official board began to focus on finding a new pastor. After hearing preachers from far and near, the church voted in March 1987 to accept Anthony E. Moore as pastor.
The Carolina Missionary Baptist Church has consistently committed itself to the holistic GOSPEL and has been steadfast in missions ~ home and abroad. Pastor Moore has propelled us further into the worship and praise experience. Carolina Church has become a temple of praise and thanksgiving, with God-like spirits, whose people are and have been resolved to meet the challenges of its surrounding community.
Pastor Moore developed the Sanctuary Without Walls and has led the church in the acquisition of 18.34 acres of land in Prince Georges County, Maryland in 1995. The mortgage on the land was paid in 1999. In 2004, the church began building on the site. On May 20, 2006, the church moved into its newly completed family life center at 9901 Allentown Road, Fort Washington, MD 20744.
