Emirates Melbourne Cup

The Nation Stops To Witness Stunning Horsepower

At 3pm this Tuesday all eyes will be trained on Flemington Racecourse as we wait to see which horse has its nose in front at the end of the gruelling 3200-metre gallop we know as the Melbourne Cup. Possibly Australia’s oldest nation-wide sporting tradition, and viewed by more than 700 million people scattered throughout most of the countries of the world, the Melbourne Cup is now a truly international event attracting the best stayers from all around. A taxing test of mettle and endurance with a huge field of runners, the seemingly epic event is usually won in just a little over three minutes, although time seems to stand still as the valiant horses and their jockeys strive their hardest to beat all others to the post. Whether it’s the horses, the exciting atmosphere, the celebrities or the fashion that hold most interest, the event regularly draws well over 100,000 patrons to Flemington, and the roar as the cup runners pass the post is phenomenal.
