A hundred years ago, Phuket was a prosperous tin mining town and was an international centre with a large community of Chinese and Europeans. They built beautiful homes in the style called SinoPortuguese – terraced townhouses with narrow frontages and accommodations stretching back from the road. The beautifully furnished interiors often included walled gardens and Chinese inspired decorations. Explore Rommanee, Talang, Yaowarat and Dibuk Roads, where the buildings have been lovingly restored to their former glory and now feature antique shops, speciality restaurants and more.
Thalang National Museum Built more than 20 years ago, it depicts scenes of times past with life-sized mannequins. The main tableau features the legendary Phuket Heroines, Lady Chan and Lady Mook, whose clever battle tactics saved the island from the invading Burmese forces in 1785. Another scene shows King Rama I honouring the sisters for their bravery and bestowing them with the titles Thao Thepkrassatri and Thao Srisunthorn. 37 C3
