realised by Dubai’s ruler, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum who has always had visions for his Emirate. This racing precinct has set a precedent for other countries to equal or emulate such a world-class facility, but I doubt if we shall ever see such a monolithic structure again in our time. Apart from a racecourse, Meydan will become a great tourist attraction especially for international racing aficionados who will no doubt make a pilgrimage to the sacred course. Its design is also intended as a hub for the business community and an entertainment venue. Notable performers, Sting, Sir Elton John and Santana have all recently played at this course. Those who wish to attend Meydan for thoroughbred and Arabian racing fixtures now have the added advantage of booking into the majestic Meydan Hotel, moulded into the gigantic grandstand, and viewing the races not

I had the thrill of being shown through the complex and as I had anticipated, it was marvellously modern, perfectly positioned and convenient for those patrons not wishing to join hospitality tents, private boxes or the grandstand, stretching to nearly a kilometre long. One can even cool off in the rooftop pool on the 11th floor, lifeguard and all, and cheer on your favourite horse. This infinity pool appears to just blend in with the world’s most modern track and is always in sight.
