As summer creeps in, tourists come to visit, and we all start to race to our favorite spots on The Hill, let’s make sure we are doing it safely! If you are looking for a parking spot for your dinner reservation or just to get out and walk around, here are a few things to remember: -Unless directed otherwise, vehicles must be parked with the right-hand wheels parallel to and within 12 inches of the righthand curb. -Vehicles should not be parked on a sidewalk, on a crosswalk or within an intersection. -Vehicles should not be parked along a curb marked with yellow paint. - Five feet must separate your vehicle from the rounding of the nearest driveway, alley or private street. Once parked, always make sure your vehicle doesn’t interfere with the ability of others to move safely. And remember, these rules and regulations also apply to golf carts.

Restaurant & Bar is set to open sometime this month offering pasta, shareables, comfort classics, and cocktails in a warm, inviting atmosphere. The restaurant, which takes the former location of J. Greene’s Pub, is a product of the pandemic, especially after Charlie Gitto’s closed downtown. Nippon Tei soon to be Sado by Courtney Kamm
The popular sushi and Japanese restaurant Nippon Tei is set to move to The Hill later this year. “We wanted something with bigger facilities and a bigger kitchen to be able to do more stuff in the back,” said co-owner Nick Bognar in a recent interview with Sauce. The restaurant will be located at what was formerly home to Giovanni’s On the Hill, and they will be rebranding a bit — the new name, Sado, means “tea ceremony” in Japanese. Some small tweaks will come with the move and rebrand, but the owners and chefs don’t want to stray from the foods their customers know and love.

Silver Dollar City announces Mercy as official health care sponsor
First ever “Calming Space” a key new project of the collaboration Silver Dollar City leadership, recognizing Mercy as a leading expert in health care, announces a multi-year sponsorship for Mercy to provide guidance and improvements to family health and care-related services offered at the internationally awarded 1880s-style theme park in Branson, Missouri. The organizations are teaming up in a mutual commitment to provide family safety, accessibility, good health and comfort. “We know many of our visitors come from the communities Mercy serves,” said Brad Thomas, president of Silver Dollar City Attractions. “It made sense to choose a well-respected, familiar name to advise us on ways to keep our guests healthy.” The sponsorship includes collaboration from Mercy on many guest services, including increased hand sanitizer stations and enhancements to nursing stations and first aid operations. The most notable addition so far is the park’s first ever “Calming Space” for guests with special needs who experience sensory overload. The first of several planned spaces in the City – the Calming Space is a room created to soothe guests with sensory processing disorders. There’s privacy for one family, with no time limit. With advice from Mercy experts, the space includes comforting colors, soft seating, low lighting, books, sensory toys and a “crash pad” – a large, cushioned area for rest, rolling or jumping. “The Calming Space’s focal point is a large textured wall, designed and built by Silver Dollar City craftsmen to portray the Frisco Silver Dollar Train,” said Jessica Loftis, Silver Dollar City project manager. “We know most kids love trains, so we created the drawing of our train scene, then set out to build it. There are dimensional layers of smooth and rougher surfaces,
artificial grass, wood for the railroad ties, stone for the tunnel and glass beads for the sky.” The room is designed to offer a variety of options. “Some people with developmental disabilities, like autism, need quiet and very little movement to calm down,” explained Dr. Kyle John, child psychiatrist and vice president of Mercy’s behavioral health program. “But some actually need outside stimulation or repetitive motion to feel more grounded. They might rock back and forth on the crash pad or find a texture on the wall that is comforting to touch.” Park visitors can also have peace of mind in knowing their electronic health record travels with them to Branson. “As the ‘Official Health Care Sponsor’ of Silver Dollar City, our goal is to serve families before, during and after their park visits,” said Craig McCoy, president of Mercy Springfield Communities. “If you’re already a Mercy patient and you need care while you’re here, our providers have access to your health records. We’ll know about your allergies and what medications you’re taking. This summer Silver Dollar City’s National Kids Fest brings two new entertainment icons to the 1880s-style, internationally-awarded theme park, located in Branson, Missouri. The National Kids Fest runs June 11-July 24 and features new productions created for Silver Dollar City. One headliner is the circus great himself, Nik Wallenda, who is presenting the never-seen-before epic show, Nik Wallenda’s Zirkus. Another, for preschoolers, is Chuggington Adventure Depot, a fully immersive interactive playland adventure that brings the hit animated series “Chuggington” to life with their favorite characters, locations and more. Daredevils beware as excitement has few limits with seventh generation circus royalty and king of the high-wire Nik Wallenda taking center stage. The famous Nik Wallenda returns to Silver Dollar City approximately a decade after his recordbreaking stunt the Iron Jaw, when he dangled by his jaw from a helicopter 200 feet above Silver Dollar City. This time, the Wallenda family brings a variety of talent as they perform great feats in the new Nik Wallenda’s Zirkus, which is ‘circus’ in their native German language. Created exclusively for Silver Dollar City, Nik Wallenda’s Zirkus showcases soaring acrobatics, aerial stunts, human pyramids, trick bicycling, and dangerous high-wire acts. The theme, says Wallenda, “The impossible is possible. We want to present an inspiring message that ‘I can do anything if I set my mind to it.’ We hope guests come to be impressed and leave inspired,” said Wallenda. Younger guests take to the rails at the Chuggington Adventure Depot as they step into their very own trainee Chugger, chosen from the modern and colorful fleet of train engines. “La Lanterna Magica” nelle scuole per la Giornata Mondiale della Diversità Culturale, il Dialogo e lo Sviluppo Prosegue l’attività dell’Istituto Cinematografico dell’Aquila nelle scuole. Proiezione di lungometraggio con approfondimento cinematografico è la proposta culturale che accompagna centinaia di studenti ad affrontare tematiche di rilevanza sociale e culturale attraverso il prezioso contributo della Settima Arte. In occasione della “Giornata mondiale della Diversità Culturale, il Dialogo e lo Sviluppo”, domani, sabato 21 maggio 2022 “La Lanterna Magica” propone la visione in streaming del film Bekas di Karzan Kader (Svezia, Finlandia, Iraq, 2007) seguito dal contributo cinematografico di Katiuscia Tomei. I protagonisti sono due fratellini curdi che, dopo aver visto da un buco nel muro del cinema il film Superman, decidono di affrontare un viaggio per raggiungere l’America. L’Istituto ha scelto questa pellicola ambientata in Kurdistan poiché è una regione che ha suscitato molto interesse in Occidente. Il popolo non è dotato di sufficiente autonomia, nonostante le antiche tradizioni, la cultura e le diverse dichiarazioni storiche che hanno affermato l’opportunità di uno stato curdo indipendente. In Bekas i due fratelli sopravvivono con grandi difficoltà lavorando come lustrascarpe di strada lungo le strade polverose infestate dai posti di blocco, che non conoscono differenza tra persone o cose. L’America, dove vogliono scappare, è il luogo dei possibili, dal quale cercano di attingere anche senza conoscerlo: Superman, Michael Jackson («quello che canta») e la Coca Cola (simbolo del commercio seriale, presentata con sfumature sarcastiche un po’ alla Warhol). La Giornata, dunque, è un’occasione per riaffermare quanto sia importante l’impegno nell’aiuto di alcune popolazioni più sfortunate che diventa sempre più gravoso a causa delle guerre e la violenza mosse verso le minoranze culturali che distruggono il patrimonio comune per indebolire i legami tra i popoli e la loro storia svuotandoli delle loro identità e diversità sociali. Si ringrazia per la collaborazione l’Ufficio Scolastico Provinciale dell’Abruzzo, che ha accolto l’iniziativa promuovendola presso le Scuole.

Le bimbe e i bimbi di età compresa tra 0 a 6 anni con le proprie famiglie dalle 17.30 potranno godere della lettura ad alta voce della fiaba L’oca d’oro con la proiezione del cartone animato presso la Sala dell’Infanzia della Tommasiana. Proseguono per tutto il mese di maggio, inoltre, gli appuntamenti mattutini riservati agli Istituti Scolastici. Alle 10.00 di martedì 24 maggio la Scuola Primaria di Sassa dell’Istituto Comprensivo “Gianni Rodari” parteciperà alla lettura della fiaba Tremotino con la visone del cartone animato. Per le bambine ed i bambini dai 6 ai 10 anni è stata pensata, invece, una lezione sulla storia del cinema che intende ripercorrere le fasi evolutive dalla nascita del cinema, passando dal muto, al sonoro, al colore, fino al digitale con l’ausilio di proiezioni cinematografiche che forniscono un valido esempio visivo in grado di coinvolgere i giovani spettatori.
