4th of July
by Courtney Kamm
Independence Day, casually known as the 4th of July, commemorates the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776. Independence Day is commonly celebrated with fireworks, parades, baseball games, concerts, picnics, and many other public or private events. The first week of July is typically one of the busiest United States travel periods of the year, as many people use what is often a three-day holiday weekend for extended vacation trips. Head to page 12 to find out where you can see public firework displays this year!
Summer of Volpi by Courtney Kamm
Long time, STL-based business specializing in cured meats recently announced its first summer of collaborations called, Summer of Volpi. These collaborations last only one week and are an opportunity to try Volpi-themed dishes at some of your favorite restaurants around the city throughout the next few weeks. Summer of Volpi kicked off last month with a collaboration with Anthonino’s Taverna and recently collaborated with Urban Chestnut Brewing Company. From there, they will collaborate with Steve’s Hot Dogs and POP. For every purchase of their signature partnered dish, $1 is donated to Operation Food Search. Fresh, Fried, and Crispy by Courtney Kamm
If you tune into the new Netflix food show, Fresh, Fried, and Crispy, don’t be surprised if you see some familiar faces! The first episode of the new series is all about St. Louis foods and features three restaurants in particular: Grace Meat + Three, SweetArt and Zia’s on The Hill. Stopping at all three restaurants, host of the show and food critic, Daym Drops, tries their take on fresh, but always fried foods! Also a self-proclaimed “vegetable hater,” I bet you won’t be able to guess which STL dish was Drops’ favorite! You can watch the full episode on Netflix now with a paid subscription. Have you watched the new series yet or seen the STL episode? Let us know what you thought by emailing courtney@ilpensiero.net.
