Milque Toast Moves Down the Road To Historic California Donuts Building

Milque Toast, the restaurant you know and love, formerly at 2212 S. Jefferson, has relocated just a few blocks south to the iconic California Do-Nut Co. building at 2924 S. Jefferson.

Owner and chef Colleen Clawson and former building owner Edward Abunader have taken great care to preserve the building’s signature charm while simultaneously transforming it into a cozy, Scandinavian-inspired space with plenty of gorgeous local art. Clawson explains she was inspired by Hygge, a Danish word that refers to a comfy, cozy, nourishing environment void of annoyance. When asked what she’s most excited for as she embarks on this new adventure, Clawson says, “I’m excited that I have room to play. We’ll do everything from a familystyle Sunday dinner to special wine dinners and dessert tastings.”

Though there will be a curated wine list and luscious craft cocktails, you can still get a Busch beer. The same will apply to the menu, with options that will appeal to every palette, from the traditional to the more adventurous.

The main restaurant and bar, complete with an amazing courtyard and streetside patio, celebrated a quiet opening with friends and neighbors a few weeks ago. In the coming months, this amazing space will include a catering kitchen, an art gallery/event space, and a music venue that will continue to host your favorite local music and events.

As for the menu, Clawson says, “We serve seasonal, local, fresh, beautiful food with influences ranging from Norway to North Africa.”

Milque Toast will be serving lunch

and breakfast from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and dinner from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m., Friday through Monday. For reservations, which are not required, call 314.833.0085.
