News on Participants of the Ninth International Rail Business Forum “1520 Strategic Partnership” Today, OJSC ZHASO is: a reliable and transparent insurance organization that prepares its financial reports in compliance with Russian accounting rules, the requirements of the Russian Central Bank’s Financial Markets Service, and International Financial Reporting Standards; 53 branches and 142 sales offices located in 68 Russian federal subjects throughout the country, stretching from Sakhalin to Kaliningrad. The company’s agent network is one of the largest in Russia; a competitive player on the insurance market that responds promptly to the needs of its clients – both private individuals and legal entities – by constantly introducing new technologies into its business processes.

OJSC ZHASO

Insurance Company, one of the largest insurance companies in Russia, has become the official insurance partner for the IX International Rail Business Forum “1520 Strategic Partnership.” Since its establishment on May 6, 1991, OJSC ZHASO has earned a reputation as a reliable partner, consistently ranking among the leaders on the Russian insurance market. It offers the entire spectrum of insurance services for both private individuals and legal entities.

The Ninth International Rail Business Forum “1520 Strategic Partnership” will take place in Sochi on June 18-20, 2014. The forum is aimed at adopting systematic solutions to the most critical issues in the railway complex: optimizing the transport process, modernizing transport infrastructure, attracting investment, and producing modern rolling stock. The event’s business program will feature more than 20 discussion and interactive formats and be attended by an estimated 1,400 experts from more than 30 countries. The forum’s main audience will be leading transport companies from Russia, the CIS, and the European Union, including national transportation companies, rolling stock operators, railway manufacturers, and logistics, leasing, insurance, and forwarding companies.

Welcome Letters Vladimir Yakunin, Russian Railways Dear participants, organisers and guests of the IX International Rail Business Forum “Strategic Partnership 1520”, I am delighted to welcome you at the hospitable Olympic city of Sochi! The modern world and the context of our life which we must take into account set an extraordinarily complex agenda before us: economic instability, political crisis in Ukraine, conflicts in the Middle East. For the most part, the reason behind these trends lies in the lack of willingness to regard the interests of others and the determination to prioritize own goals. Here, at our railway Forum, it is not customary to politicize mutual relations - we seek to remain good friends and at all times reckon with the interests of our partners and clients. For this reason we always focus on finding a balance of ideas and concepts, which would unite all the topics suggested for discussion: those of a global nature, related to the cooperation between various countries and continents, as well as the local ones, technical in their character. Dear colleagues! I encourage you to actively participate in the forthcoming dialogue. I am confident that the vision for a set of joint actions, which shall be composed as a result of the Forum, will become a powerful imperative for our successful development. I would like to express my wish that all the participants enjoy a fruitful engagement in the work of the Forum and succeed in establishing beneficial contacts.

Vladimir Yakunin President Russian Railways

Oleg Sienko, Uralvagonzavod Dear friends, I’m glad to welcome you at the International 1520 Strategic Partnership Forum. Its subject is more vital than ever opening up new vistas for the Russian rail engineering and Uralvagonzavod as one of its largest contributors. I hope, in forums international rail manufacturers, operators and officials will find positive solutions for further prosperity of the field. I wish you successful talks and implementation of the most ambitious plans! Oleg Sienko Director General Uralvagonzavod

Amazon Testing Its Own Parcel Delivery Network, Says WSJ

Amazon

is in the process of testing its own delivery network to help complete the last stage of delivery in a package’s trip from factory to buyer, the Wall Street Journal reports. The e-commerce giant is using Candlestick Park in SF, as well as facilities in Los Angeles and New York, as bases of operation for Amazon trucks and contracted drivers. Self-delivery would be a huge step towards giving Amazon even more control over its sales empire, and yet another threat to brick-and-mortar retail. Amazon’s shipping costs are ballooning quickly, as the company gets bigger and serves more customers – last year alone it grew 29 percent, and relative to its total sales numbers, it’s been growing every year since 2009, the WSJ notes. Amazon can also use its own delivery team to more easily deliver same day, and to potentially deliver on holidays and weekends when service from carrier partners, including UPS, FedEx and the U.S. Postal Service, might not necessarily be available or might be cost-prohibitive. It shouldn’t surprise anyone that Amazon is at this stage of testing its own delivery service – competitors including Wal-Mart and Google are already exploring their own delivery networks, too. Already in the UK, Amazon does its own last-mile delivery, as CEO Jeff Bezos revealed in a shareholder letter earlier, too. For these efforts, it generally uses local couriers and packages products in its own, Amazon Logistics packaging.

retail giant offering $20 credits to any customers affected. Amazon’s own delivery network is by no means something that it’ll switch to for sure down the line. There’s evidence to suggest that its early efforts aren’t all that successful (including complaints in online forums), and it’s likely that existing parcel carriers will remain the mode of choice for years to come. But Amazon clearly foresees a time when it might not be able to cost-effectively lean on others while remaining as competitive as it needs to be in the growing e-commerce market. That in itself is an interesting development. Source :techcrunch.com - wsj.com

In the U.S. implementation, it’s not clear exactly how the so-called “last mile” deliveries stem from the larger shipments brought in from regional distribution hubs. Amazon’s use of the program ramped up quickly after packages sent via carriers, including UPS and FedEx, failed to meet their pre-Christmas delivery deadlines last year, which led to the

LOGISTICS Carrier Transicold Celebrates Sale of 1 Millionth Container Refrigeration Unit SINGAPORE .Sustainable PrimeLINE® system with

XtendFRESH™ atmosphere control presented to CMA CGM Forty-six years after pioneering the first front-wall, or “picture-frame,” refrigeration unit, Carrier Transicold Pte Ltd (“Carrier Transicold”) presented its 1 millionth unit during a

ceremony at its Singapore manufacturing facility. The milestone unit, a PrimeLINE® unit with XtendFRESH™ atmosphere control system, was presented to CMA CGM, the world’s third-largest container shipping company and one of Carrier’s long-standing and valued customers. Carrier Transicold, which helps improve global transport and shipping of temperature-controlled cargoes with a complete line of equipment for refrigerated trucks, trailers and containers, is a part of UTC Building & Industrial Systems, a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX). “The 1 millionth container unit is an accomplishment not only for our company and the thousands of employees around the world who have helped make it possible, but for the marine shipping industry,” said David Appel, president, Carrier Transicold & Refrigeration Systems. “It demonstrates the technological progress we are making to achieve greater efficiency while maintaining best-in-class performance, helping move shippers toward more environmentally sustainable refrigerants and bringing further innovations in system efficiency and cargo protection along the way.” “Today, 52 percent of world seaborne trade is delivered efficiently and economically by container vessel, and 65 percent of refrigerated products are transported in containers, the majority of which are efficiently and reliably temperature-controlled by Carrier Transicold systems,” said Chiou Fun Sin, president, Global Container Refrigeration, Carrier Transicold. “On any given day, the value of cargo delivered by Carrier Transicold units alone is valued at $6 billion. Indeed, Carrier Transicold systems and our global service and support network play a significant role in ensuring the well-being of a growing global population, by providing the safe, reliable transport of produce, meat, seafood, vaccines and medicine from hemisphere to hemisphere, 24 hours a day, every day of the year.” “In addition to our commitment to offering high-quality solutions at every stage of the transport cycle, CMA CGM is dedicated to protecting the environment and promoting sustainable business operations,” said Alexis Michel, senior vice president,

Container and Reefer Logistics, CMA CGM. “We have significantly reduced our carbon footprint over the past 10 years, and we are always seeking out new technologies that will help us reach our sustainability goals while also meeting our high standards for performance and efficiency. The PrimeLINE unit wins on both of these fronts, which is why we have been building up our fleet with PrimeLINE units since they were launched in 2008. “Our latest Carrier PrimeLINE units include the innovative XtendFRESH atmosphere control system, which will help ensure optimal cargo quality over longer voyages,” Michel said. “CMA CGM’s commitment to innovative technology and quality equipment is the foundation for our superior customer service and support.” In addition to unmatched performance, the PrimeLINE unit offers several environmentally sustainable features including the unit’s validation by UL Environment as having a 93 percent recyclability rate, joining Carrier’s NaturaLINE™ unit as the only container refrigeration units to achieve recyclability validation. The PrimeLINE unit also delivers greater cooling capacity for perishable loads than any other container refrigeration system using non-ozone depleting R-134a refrigerant. “In a world of finite natural resources, the PrimeLINE unit stands out as a leader in energy efficient marine container systems. It reduces carbon emissions by 28 percent compared to previous units and is one of only two systems certified for recyclability. This is how Carrier maximizes environmental technologies while lowering environmental impact,” said John Mandyck, chief sustainability officer, UTC Building & Industrial Systems. The XtendFRESH system’s ability to remove ethylene – a hormone given off by ripening produce that will accelerate ripening if left unchecked – while actively controlling oxygen and carbon dioxide levels, is key to its performance and distinguishes it from other products for container atmosphere control. By slowing the ripening process, the XtendFRESH system significantly lengthens the amount of time produce can spend in refrigerated transit – by more than double in some cases. For example, bananas can be shipped for up to eight weeks rather than four, and beans for up to four weeks rather than 10 days. For more information about the Carrier PrimeLINE unit, XtendFRESH system or any of the Transicold family of transport refrigeration solutions, visit www.carrier.com Source:carrier.com

HOYER participates in “ChemLog Tracking and Tracing” European

project designed to make intermodal transports of dangerous goods safer Hamburg, The Hamburg-based HOYER Group is a partner of the EU-supported “ChemLog Tracking and Tracing (T&T)” project which is designed to use improved GPS surveillance to make the intermodal transport of dangerous goods in Europe safer and more transparent. An especially equipped HOYER tank container is being transported throughout Europe to help achieve that goal. The collaborative project “ChemLog T&T” started in July 2012 and involves public administrations, chemical business associations and research institutions from eight European countries. The project’s goal is to test and standardize currently available tracking and tracing systems in order to improve them for their use in intermodal traffic. Future systems are even supposed to be enabled to automatically send a message notifying rescue crews of accidents.

The tank container’s entire route is being closely monitored. Among other things, the project partners are documenting the quality of the GPS information in order to enable the subsequent implementation of technical improvements. “Transportation safety is a core concern of ours”, says Hans Demarest, Manager Tankpool Management at HOYER. „As a partner of the project ‘ChemLog T&T’ we are glad to contribute our know-how Being one of the project partners, the HOYER Group has and our many years of experience in intermodal traffic. made a tank container available for a pilot transport. MOL Logistics Subsidiary in Thailand Acquires AEO Certification TOKYO—MOL Logistics (Japan) Co., Ltd.

(President: Tetsuya Minato) today announced that its subsidiary in Thailand, MOL Logistics (Thailand) Co., Ltd. (Managing Director: Tatsuya Ueki) has earned certification as an Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) from the Customs Department of Thailand.

In addition, MOL Group company Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (Thailand) Co., Ltd. [MOL (Thailand)] has already earned the same AEO certification as MOL Logistics (Thailand). The company will meet a broad range of customer needs while sharing MOL (Thailand) facilities and services.

Within the MOL Logistics Group in Japan, the headquarters was certified as an AEO forwarder for international transportation, and its subsidiary M.O. Air Logistics, Inc. as an Authorized Warehouse Operator. Overseas, MOL Logistics (Netherlands) B.V. was already certified as a Full AEO (freight forwarder, customs broker, warehouse operator), and MOL Logistics (Thailand) is the second overseas group company to acquire AEO certification, following MOL Logistics (Netherlands). A subsidiary in the U.S. acquired C-TPAT certification under a system similar to the AEO program.

The MOL Logistics Group continually provides thorough security management in global logistics, refines its compliance system, strives to offer an ever-higher quality of services, and helps customers enhance their supply chain operations with safe, reliable logistics services.

MOL Logistics (Thailand) expects the AEO certification to speed up customs clearance for cargoes exported from Thailand and streamline customs procedures such as document examination and inspections, through mutual approval of the Customs Department of Thailand and the customs department of the importing nation.

LOGISTICS Within Europe, cost of a standard letter in Germany remains reasonable

Even though the German postal rate for a

standard letter rose by 2 cents to EUR 0.60 in January, the price of a stamp continues to rank in the mid-range among European prices and below the European average, according to the latest European postal-rate comparison. The 13th version of the annual European postal-rate study analyzes the rates for standard letters in all 28 EU member countries as well as those in Norway, Switzerland and Iceland. Since the 2013 study was conducted, postal rates have been raised in 14 European countries. The rate for a standard letter in Norway is currently EUR 1.28. By contrast, it is only EUR 0.26 in Malta. When such fundamental factors as dissimilar purchasing power and labor costs found in individual countries are taken into consideration, Germany’s postal rates rank among the most favorable in Europe. German rate for a standard letter has fallen on an inflation-adjusted basis Over the past 10 years, postal rates have risen by nearly 20 percent on an inflation-adjusted basis. By contrast, the German rate for a standard letter has fallen since 2004 by nearly 8 percent on an inflation-adjusted basis. A sharper decline was seen only in Portugal, Cyprus and Croatia. Deutsche Post also charges favorable rates for a letter sent from Germany to other European countries (the Europabrief): While Europeans pay an average of EUR 1.03 for an international letter, the cost of the German Europabrief remains EUR 0.75. PORT & TERMINALS PORT OF CLEVELAND’S EXPRESS OCEAN FREIGHT SERVICE UNDERWAY

Cleveland-Europe Express will arrive in

Cleveland in two weeks CLEVELAND, OH- With the departure of the vessel “Fortunagracht” out of Antwerp, Belgium over the weekend, the Cleveland-Europe Express service between the Cleveland Harbor and Europe via the Saint Lawrence Seaway has officially launched. The vessel is loaded with breakbulk and containerized cargo and is set to dock in Cleveland around April 17. The Cleveland-Europe Express is the only regular, scheduled international container and non-containerized cargo service on the Great Lakes. The Port of Cleveland and Dutch company The Spliethoff Group entered into an agreement in November 2013 to begin the service. It is the fastest and greenest route between Europe and North America’s heartland, allowing regional companies to ship their goods up to four days faster than using water, rail, and truck routes via the U.S. East Coast ports. Will Friedman, president & CEO of the Port of Cleveland, said the market is responding very favorably and in line with expectations. “This is a significant first step in establishing the first scheduled ocean cargo service in decades between Europe and the Great Lakes via the Saint Lawrence Seaway,” Friedman said. “We look forward to seeing the service grow. We know there’s a market for it.” Bart Peters, manager of The Spliethoff Group’s America Service, said the company has received strong response to the regularly scheduled, direct line of trade between Europe and the industrial heartland of the U.S.A. The Spliethoff Group owns and operates

a fleet of about 100 multi-purpose, heavy-lift, and ro-ro vessels ranging in size from 9,500 to 21,000 tons, all of which sail under the Dutch flag. “The Cleveland-Europe Express offers fast transit service and carries a variety of cargo between Europe and Cleveland. We are very excited to see Fortunagracht embark on its first trip from Europe to Cleveland,” Peters said. “We are already booking cargo for the next voyage to Cleveland.” The vessel will arrive in Cleveland carrying European exports, such as wind energy parts, machinery and smaller cargo in containers. The ship will depart for Antwerp on April 18th with machinery and containerized cargo. The Cleveland-Europe Express will continue to make one round trip a month, leaving with cargo from Europe at the beginning of each month and arriving in Cleveland mid-month to unload that cargo, and then collecting exports to carry back to Europe. As demand rises, the Port will be able to add a second ship, allowing for a vessel in port every two weeks. The express ocean freight service comes at a time when cargo moving through the Port is on the increase. In 2013, the Port had its highest annual tonnage level since the 2008 calendar year. This April’s tonnage is anticipated to be the highest since 2003. Source :portofcleveland.com

PORT & TERMINALS Duisport Group continues positive growth trend Total output in the 2013 financial year rises to 175 million euros / Group result of 12 million euros at high level of previous year / Investments of around 50 million euros Duisburg, – In the 2013 financial year the duisport Group generated total output of 175 million euros. Thus, including sales from strategic investments, output rose by around 10 per cent on the previous year. At 30 million euros it was possible to slightly exceed the 2012 level of earnings before interest taxes, depreciation and amortization (29million euros). The result before taxes on earnings reached the high level of the previous year at 12 million euros. “Despite a difficult economic environment all business segments have developed well and have contributed to the positive result. Our integrated service portfolio thus continues to form the basis for the stable development of the result,” emphasized Erich Staake, Chief Executive Officer of Duisburger Hafen AG, at this year’s annual results press conference. The three business segments of the duisport Group – Infraand Suprastructure, Transportation and Logistics Services as well as Packaging Logistics – were each able to increase their volumes of business in 2013. While the InfraandSuprastructure division was able to increase its sales by 14 per cent to almost 46 million euros (2012: 40 millioneuros), sales at the Transportation and Logistics Services division grew by around 24 per cent to 54 million euros(2012: 44 million euros). Packaging Logistics achieved sales of 58 million euros – aplus of 12 per cent compared to the previous year (2012:52 million euros). In this regard it has to be taken into account that the revenues of the Weinzierl Group and of duisport packing logistics India Pvt. Ltd. have been included in the business segment for the first time. In the 2013 business year the duisport Group made investments of around 50 million euros. The largest part of this, around 45 million euros, was due to investments in suprastructure, particularly in goods distribution centers and in developing terminal capacities. The remaining investments were due on port infrastructure. Increase in output despite decline in handling For the first time in 15 years there was no appreciable growth in the logistics sector last year. Goods handling in the sea ports also stagnated. Total goods handling in the ports of the duisport Group was not able to decouple completely from this development. The goods volumes handled on the three modes of transport ship, rail and truck were slightly below the previous year’s level at 62 million t(2012: 63 million t). This slight decline is attributable to the loss of a key customer in coal logistics (2 million t).Total goods handling for all Duisburg ports in 2013 amounted to 123 million t (2012: 110 million t). The rise l argely resulted from the handling-related recovery in the private plant ports, which had suffered a collapse in 2012 due to poordevelopments in the coal and steel sectorrelated to broader economic developments. A total of 31 million t – after 32 million t in 2012 – was handled by rail and ship in the ports of the duisport Group in 2013. While rail handling reached the previous year’slevel at 16 million t, ship handling declined slightly to reach 15 million t (2012: 16 million t). Container handling rose once again. This grew by 16 percent to 3 million TEU (2012: 2.6 million TEU). “This positive development in the container sector shows one can generate growth with integrated transport and logistics concepts, even when there are stagnating handling figures in the sea ports,” says Staake. duisport continues successful marketing In total it was possible to achieve a high marketing output of around 264,000 square meters in the past financial year. The automotive sector in particular, with new locations of the CKD logistics centers (Completely Knocked Down) for Audi and Volkswagen, contributed to this development.

44

duisport customers in this segment do not just offer import and export of vehicles and processing for bodywork parts. Consolidating and exporting automobile components is also part of the service spectrum of the companies based in Duisburg. Due to the loss of a large coal logistics customer the duisport Group took over parts of the “Kohleninsel” (coal island) at the end of 2013 and reactivated import coal handling there. The resulting positive effects will materialize in the current year. “The port still has nearly 100 hectares of land that can alsobe made available by optimizations. By developing further commercial and logistics areas in the whole Ruhr area we will also offer our customers an optimal connection to the multi-modal logistics hub duisport in future years,” says Staake. In addition to areas in Duisburg, land is also available tocustomers in the surrounding region. This includes Kamp-Lintfort (logport IV) and Oberhausen (logport V) in particular. It is intended to develop a further 100 hectares of space for logistics and industrial locations in the next five years. Extension of international commitment The duisport Group also further developed its international range of services in 2013. Duisburger Hafen AG is pushing forward the development of new markets for its customers in packaging logistics (dpl) in particular. In addition to extending the location in China (Shanghai/Wuxi), the business activities of the joint venture duisport packing logistics India Pvt. Ltd. started in India on January 1, 2013. dpl is providing its expertise in packing industrial goods and project logistics for companies in the international mechanical engineering sector from the new location In Pune in the west of India. New packaging activities have been built up in SouthernGermany and in neighboring France. By investing in the Weinzierl Group and in a French packing company, duisport packing logistics GmbH has increased its number of locations by a further four. Furthermore, the duisport Group successfully completed an international consultancy project in Dubai in 2013. Duisport developed a master plan for an inter-modal port hinterland concept for the Port of Jebel Ali in Dubai on behalf of DP World, one of the world’s leading port and terminal operators. “The new business year is off to a good start. All business segments show a positive development. Consequently, we continue to increase the number of employees and will for the first time reach a total of 1.000 employees in the current year”, concludes Staake. Source : duisport.com

PORT & TERMINALS Agreement on plastic pellet spill incident in Hong Kong waters

Regarding the massive spill of polypropylene plastic pellets into the Hong Kong waters from a cargo ship during typhoon “Vicente” in July 2012, a Marine Department spokesman said today (April 8) that after active negotiations amongst the parties concerned, a settlement agreement was reached for a sum to be paid by the party concerned to the Government to compensate the costs it incurred in cleaning up the plastic pellets.

The spokesman said that due to the complexity of the legal issues involved, the Government, having taken into account the evidence and independent legal advice, considered the settlement sum reasonable, realistic and acceptable. It is also the view of the Government to resolve as far as possible the matter in an amicable manner so as to reduce costs and resources that would otherwise have to be incurred if the matter was to be resolved by way of litigation. Further details of the agreement cannot be disclosed as the settlement agreement contains a usual confidentiality clause. The incident happened on July 23, 2012 during the attack of typhoon “Vicente”. A cargo ship, sailing outside the south-eastern waters of Hong Kong, was forced to enter into Hong Kong waters. Seven containers on board the ship, including six containing around 150 tonnes of polypropylene plastic pellets, fell overboard. As a result, there was massive spill of polypropylene plastic pellets into Hong Kong waters. A number of Government departments, including the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department, the Marine Department, the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department and the Environmental Protection Department, worked closely together to tackle the incident and conduct clean-up operations. In an email, the co-skippers wrote: “The Super Servant diverted and threw two jerry cans of 20 liters. This should be enough for us to reach Madeira with ETA Friday (April 25) afternoon. The conditions are not ideal for drive motor (sea headwind ), but progress is still a small 5 knots. The idea is to refuel in Madeira and to proceed to Lagos (Portugal) in the wake where a carrier is waiting for us. Thank you. Until soon. Chab & Tab.”

FT. LAUDERDALE/AMSTERDAM, THE NETH-

ERLANDS – Super Servant 4, one of the ships in DYT Yacht Transport’s fleet of yacht transporters, diverted six miles from its course to Saint Thomas to assist racing sailors Thierry Chabagny and Erwan Tabarly aboard their dismasted yacht Gedimat, which had radioed the ship for help on Tuesday, April 23. The 32-foot Figaro Beneteau II is competing in the Transat AG2R La Mondiale, a 3890-mile double-handed race that began on April 6 from France and is due to finish at the French Caribbean island of Saint Barthelemy. Gedimat had dismasted during a gale and its diesel had run dry as the vessel tried to reach the island of Madeira, a Portuguese archipelago 250 miles north of the Canary Islands in the North Atlantic. With no reported injuries or problems with health aboard Gedimat, Super Servant 4 – which was 180 miles west of Madeira at the time of the call – proceeded to divert and deliver two drums with 20 liters of diesel in each, to Gedimat. The two drums were thrown into the water, connected to a third empty drum with a light. The crew was successful in bringing the drums aboard with no additional assistance in the 20-knot breezes and two-meter swells.

Late last year, DYT Yacht Transport partnered with another leading yacht transport company, Sevenstar Yacht Transport, which has been good news for yacht owners who, by choice or necessity, depend on the shipping of their prized possessions to various ports around the world. The two companies, while maintaining their separate identities, are fully equipped to advise on the best options for either float-on/float-off (FLO/FLO) or lift-on/lift-off (LO/LO) services offered by a fleet of over 120 ships that are wholly owned and operated by parent company the Spliethoff Group, one of the largest ship owners in The Netherlands, which plays a major role in the global transport market. The awards are one of the most respected global maritime recognition schemes and this year they were hosted by International journalist and broadcaster, Justin Webb, in the presence of Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal, together with 400 industry leaders and professionals from around the world. Most recently he presided over the company’s merger with another major player in the same field, in what has been the biggest consolidation seen in the sector. Dr Madsen also believes their 150th anniversary has been achieved based on integrity and trust within the organisation. “I am extremely flattered and humbled to receive this prestigious award – the fact that it is the Seatrade award makes it all the more satisfying” he said. “Indeed, our vision to make a global impact for a safe and sustainable future remains in place today and will remain so in the future.

ROAD TRANSPORT 100 Axle Lines Tianjie SPMTs Assist 3200t Giant Bridge Section Roll on the Barge With the strong support from Tianjie SPMT, Guangdong LIFT Engineering Machinery Co.,Ltd(GPEC) was contracted

by Wuchang Shipbuilding Industry to transport 3200t giant bridge section roll-on barge for Hong Kong-ZhuhaiMacau Bridge project in Zhongshan, Guangdong province. This giant bridge section, which total weighed 3,200 tones and had the dimensions 132.6 m x 33.1 m, were transported from the fabrication facility yard to the barge by using total 100-axle lines SPMTs. So, how to move this giant steel structure onto the barge safely and accurately? As there’s over 20m distance from the bridge section and barge, crane is not suitable for this project. Based on the analysis of actual situation, our client GPEC choose the better solution of Tianjie S2.43 Self Propelled Modular Trailer (SPMT), which is more cost-effective and easier to operate. Detail Tianjie SPMT transport system configuration: 100 axle lines TJ-S2.43 SPMT (10 units - 6 lines module, 10 units - 4 lines module) compose 4 big SPMT modules 4 PPU (390kw Mercedes Benz engine for Power Pack Unit) 1 Wireless Remote control Normally it will take 5-6 hours to roll-on, but in this project, we need complete the whole process in 2 hours as the reason of Tidal influence. Also, high precision is essential for roll-on, deviation is controlled smaller than 5mm in every 100m

movement. This requires everyone and every steps close-cooperation and no mistake permitted. The most difficult is, when SPMT move onto the barge, the barge will swing and tilt with the change of weight. So how to keep it balance? Thanks to the hydraulic steady system of Tianjie SPMT, which adopt reliable German brand main components and have hydraulic compensation stroke of approx. 700mm (Âą350mm). Hydraulic support cylinder on suspension is connected to each other by steel pipes and hose. One cut-off valve (ball valve) is used for grouping the hydraulic cylinders. Support system is set to three hydraulic groups according to cargo weight, center of gravity location and road conditions. This ensures a uniform axle load on rough road while running. Besides, the barge is equipped with pressurized cabin to outward drainage to ensure the balance.

Through two hours efforts, Tianjie SPMT successfully assist the 3200t giant bridge section roll-onto the barge, this is the first step of HZMB CB02 project, one historic move in Chinese Bridge Construction area. But For Tianjie, this is just another case with SPMT Source :fulangjie.com

ROAD TRANSPORT state of charge of the batteries and starts charging them, if needed, using the turbine engine. Charge mode can be manually selected if an operator wishes to “top off” the batteries prior to shutting down. Electric Vehicle Mode: For use in urban areas, the truck will run on electric power alone until the battery state of charge hits 50 percent. At that time the turbine will automatically start and begin charging the batteries. Hybrid Electric Mode: For maximum range, this mode runs the turbine continuously, only shutting down if the batteries run out. Aerodynamics: Designers used extensive computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis to optimize the truck’s styling. The truck’s shape represents a 20 percent reduction in aerodynamic drag over Walmart’s current Peterbilt Model 386. By placing the cab over the engine, the truck’s wheelbase is greatly shortened, resulting in reduced weight and better maneuverability. Walmart relied on product development supplier Roush Engineering to carry out the vehicle’s construction with these detailed design specifications.

Trailer: The vehicle’s trailer, manufactured by Great Dane Trailers, offers a host of fuel-saving features. The trailer body is built almost exclusively with carbon fiber, including one-piece carbon fiber panels for the roof and sidewalls, saving nearly 4,000 pounds when compared to traditional designs. The trailer’s convex nose also enhances aerodynamics while maintaining storage space inside the trailer. Other special features of the trailer include special low-amperage LED lighting strips, composite trailer skirts, aerodynamic disc wheel coverings, a Posi-lift suspension, and a one-piece, fiberglass-reinforced “We work every day with customers from the automotive and floor panel with a 16,000 pound forklift rating. aerospace industries, all of whom have a laser focus on maximizing “This road-ready prototype trailer is a bold step in transportation efficiencies through improved aerodynamics,” said Tom Topper, Roush’s technologies,” said Adam Hill, vice president of product and sales executive director of prototype services. “This design is revolutionary engineering at Great Dane. “We look forward to further and truly world class.” collaboration with Walmart to create more fuel-efficient vehicles of this type in the future.” Range Extending Series Hybrid: Range extending hybrids are a synergy between electric trucks and series hybrids, and their design A number of vendor partners were involved in the design and reduces the energy storage size required for trucks to run on batteries creation of the Walmart Advanced Vehicle Experience. ROAD TRANSPORT Mercedes-Benz Buses completes its range of chassis in Euro VI

Mercedes-Benz Buses is completing its range of chassis in Euro VI with the three-axle OC 500 RF chassis for inter-city buses and touring coaches. For special applications, to comply with country-specific regulations and to cater for individual interior design requirements, custom-made bodies locally mounted on bus chassis are required in many European countries and on the world market. As early as October 2012, using the two-axle variant as an example, Mercedes-Benz presented the new generation of bus chassis meeting the Euro VI standard at the FIAA show in Madrid. The OC 500 LE chassis for regular service buses and the OC 500 RF chassis for inter-city buses and touring coaches are produced in Spain: Mercedes-Benz is the only manufacturer of bus manual transmission, which was developed specifically for bus chassis in Spain.

New engines: clean, economical, durable and powerful The mainstay of the new chassis generation is the newly developed powertrain for the Euro VI emission standard. Its centrepiece is a completely new generation of engines bearing the name BlueEfficiency Power. These engines meet the Euro VI emissions standard across the entire power range. All the engines use the high-pressure injection system based on the common-rail principle for mixture formation. The complex exhaust gas aftertreatment system employs exhaust gas recirculation, an oxidising catalytic converter, a particulate filter and SCR technology with AdBlue injection. All the engines combine impressive performance with lively acceleration even at low engine speeds, smooth running characteristics, low fuel, AdBlue and engine oil consumption, and exemplary environmental compatibility. Despite Euro VI, fuel consumption tend s to be below that of the preceding engines. The long oil-change intervals of up to 120,000 km in touring operations are likewise impressive. The new Mercedes-Benz OM 936 in-line six-cylinder engine is particularly compact and light in weight. This engine has a displacement of 7.7 l and is rated at 220 kW (299 hp) or 260 kW (354 hp). It is used for both the Mercedes-Benz OC 500 LE low-entry chassis and the two-axle touring coach chassis in the OC 500 RF series. The likewise new in-line six-cylinder OM 470 engine with a displacement of 10.7 litres is a power unit in the heavy-duty class. This is the ideal power unit for the touring coach chassis in the OC 500 RF series, and is available in an output range of 290 kW (394 hp) to 315 kW (428 hp). The installed position of the engines is the same as for complete Mercedes-Benz buses with a high-floor rear: the exhaust system is now always on the left, the cooling on the right. The exhaust and cooling systems are isolated at the top and from the engine compartment, increasing their efficiency and reducing the thermal load on adjacent components.

operations, is new. This progressively geared transmission now shifts even more rapidly and comfortably. Gearshifting is either automated or manual by driver intervention, as required. Mercedes-Benz supplies the OC 500 LE regular service bus chassis with the ZF EcoLife automatic transmission. This is equally suitable for urban and inter-city regular service buses, and is also available for buses based on the OC 500 RF 1930/36/39. A new retarder is used in conjunction with all manual transmissions. This uses the engine coolant circuit as a braking and cooling medium. The previously necessary oil/water heat exchanger is not required. Its weight has fallen by around 30 kg thanks to the new design. At the same time the engine braking effect has increased. The modified Mercedes-Benz RO 440 drive axle excels with lower weight, lower power losses, low-noise operation, improved axle location and a further improvement in ride comfort. This allows longer service intervals of up to 240,000 km rather than the previous 180,000 km.

High-tech counters extra weight due to Euro VI The new rear axle is one of numerous components where the developers were partly able to compensate the unavoidable extra weight caused by Euro VI. Other measures include the use of high-strength steel types for the frame, the lighter retarder, lighter yet more efficient alternators and the new engine encapsulation. Popular and well-proven worldwide: chassis from SĂĄmano EvoBus IbĂŠrica has been producing bus chassis for all types of applications in SĂĄmano/Spain for over 15 years. Apart from Spanish bodybuilders, its customers are in markets all over the world. The chassis are produced on the buggy principle with transport frames, and are optimally protected against corrosion by cataphoretic dip priming. Source : daimler.com

Indonesia’s new presidential plane arrives

JAKARTA, Indonesia — Indonesia’s new $91 million presidential plane arrived Thursday after several months of delay. The Boeing 737-800 plane landed at Halim Perdanakusuma air force base, in the eastern part of Jakarta, to a welcoming ceremony presided over by State Secretary Sudi Silalahi.

The plane, named Republik Indonesia, was to have arrived late last year but was delayed after the government requested customized designs. Silalahi says the plane will go into official operation after it receives a certificate from the Ministry of Defense. The purchase of the plane was approved by Parliament in 2010, with the aim of cutting costs by replacing the need to rent jets for presidential trips. Silalahi says $10 million a year could be saved by using the plane instead of renting jets for presidential tours at home and abroad. In the past, Indonesia had used an Ilyushin Il-18, a gift from Soviet Union, and a Sikorsky Helicopter from U.S. President Kennedy as official planes for President Sukarno, the country’s first president who died in 1970.

TIRES

Resilient Technologies – The Honeycomb Tire

Michelin, Bridgestone, Yokohama, these are some of the well known names in the tire industry and each one of these tire companies has placed a bet in the airless tire race. However, the established tire manufacturers are not the only ones to have recognized the potential of non-pneumatic tires. A handful of start-ups is trying to rival with the established industry players. Resilient Technologies LLC, a Wasau – Wisconsin based company, is probably the one airless tire start-up which has received the most media coverage in recent years. Resilient is the company behind the distinctive, honeycomb inspired tire design which has become known as the „Honeycomb Tire“ or the „Humvee Tire“. Source :airless-tire.com

GLOBAL UN Road Safety Resolution acknowledges IRU’s contribution to saving lives

UN

Road Safety Resolution commends IRU for providing harmonised and internationally recognised standards for the vocational training of road transport professionals worldwide via its educational arm: the IRU Academy. New York - In the framework of the UN Decade of Action for Road Safety, the United Nations General Assembly today adopted a Resolution on “Improving Road Safety”, expressing Governments’ concerns about the unacceptable number of road traffic fatalities and injuries that take a heavy toll on public health and development, with broad social and economic consequences.

Head of IRU Academy, Patrick Philipp, commented, “Road safety is a top priority for the road transport industry as every accident is one too many. Professional training is the best way to effectively address the human factor, which is statistically the main cause of accidents involving commercial vehicles. This is why the IRU Academy provides, through its Accredited Training Institutes spread across over 50 countries, various training programmes that directly address road safety-related issues. The latest one to date is our Crash Prevention Programme that we are just about to launch.” The IRU Academy training portfolio supporting road safety includes Certificates of Professional Competence (CPC) for managers and drivers, the Transport of Dangerous Goods by Road (ADR), Safe Loading and Cargo Securing, Eco-driving Safely, Driving and Rest Time Rules and Crash Prevention coming soon, that help improve road safety by developing professional competence, skills and behaviours. “Being recognised by the UN as a key player in road safety education is a major leap forward for the IRU Academy, which will continue to work with global partners within its Advisory Committee, such as the World Bank, the International Transport Forum, the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe and the European Commission, to strive for a safe and

For true road transport professionals, every road accident is one too many and the road transport industry has always been and will continue to be committed to reducing the number and severity of accidents involving heavy commercial road vehicles by promoting a culture of road safety within the sector. Nowadays, mobile telephones have become a main source of communication, but, using a mobile phone is a major cause of both physical and mental distraction, impairing driving performance and increasing the risk of vehicles being involved in accidents.

sustainable road transport industry,” Patrick Philipp concluded. The IRU’s initiative to fight distracted driving document, launched last September together with the Government of Turkmenistan, was also taken on board as the UN Resolution “encourages Member States to consider enacting comprehensive legislation on key risk factors for road traffic injuries, including … inappropriate use of cell phones, including texting while driving”. IRU Under Secretary General and Head of the IRU Permanent Delegation to the UN, Igor Runov, stressed, “We are pleased that our initiative is so rapidly reflected in the UN road safety agenda, as it will help raise awareness on this major behavioural issue that seriously needs addressing.” Source :iru.org

GLOBAL Student Housing Built From Shipping Containers interested in keeping the costs low to make the final product as affordable as possible. The inside of the units is frugally but functionally furnished and contain all the appliances necessary for a comfortable stay. Most of the units that are housed in the shipping container part of the structure also have balconies. Since one of the key reasons why young people in South Africa drop out of university is inadequate housing, the Mill Junction project should go a long way to alleviate that problem. The modern design of the complex, with its multicolored shipping container units, fits well into the city’s skyline. Not of Johannesburg, South Africa, recently all the inhabitants of the city agree with this, as is to be got an innovative student housing structure made of expected, and the structure has received lots of criticism as recycled shipping containers and disused grain silos. Mill well as praise. Junction student accommodation, as the complex is called Source :jetsongreen.com was designed and built by the South African property developer Citiq. All told, the building process took a year to complete.

The city

The complex is located in a prime location of the city, and is comprised of 11 stories, which contain 375 affordable student apartments. First, windows were cut into the sides of the silos, the inside of which was converted into student apartments. To create additional living space, recycled shipping containers were then attached to the sides of the grain silos and stacked four floors up atop them. Apart from the private units, the complex also contains several common areas, such as study rooms, a library, communal kitchens, and a gym. The builders also placed astro turf on the roof and covered it to create an outdoor common area with amazing views of the city, since the entire structure is roughly 40 meters high. The developer also desired to make the structure as sustainable as possible. The student accommodation complex was therefore fitted with heat pumps for hot water production, motion-sensor-activated energy-efficient lighting, as well as double-glazed windows in all the units. According to the developer, these measures have resulted in a 50 percent lower power consumption as compared to a conventional building. This could be true, provided that the shipping containers were also properly insulated to prevent solar heat gain. One thing the developers didn’t include in the design are solar panels, which given South Africa’s climate would have made a lot of sense.
