2012 GRADUATION WORK

The design of three levels, R,G and B, begins with the surface of man, which is converted to a symbol and is in turn transformed back into a living creature with an aim to resolvepeoples’doubt on us and convince people that everything has a meaning. We attempt to give the viewers a different perspective by interpreting the advantages and innovative ideas hidden deeply in the hearts of the so-called “Tweens Generation”.

群迷 -- 魚群效應就像迷戀群體,注重群體效應更勝於單打獨鬥。

Bentwood™

This typeface takes its name and the overall shape from modern bentwood furniture, namely Scandinavian designs since the 1940s. The curved corners of the letterforms are practically hyperbolic, to convey the tension and strength of the bent plywood. These curves are meant to appear more dynamic than the circular or elliptical segments of traditional sans serif fonts. The letterforms are simplified, without extra corners, stems, connections or hooks, yet remain legible at any size.

The Proverbs in The Living Room Living room is the center of family life and interaction. With areceptivecharacteristic, living room is a blurred space between the public and private sphere. It not only manifests the living habits of family members, but also reveals their taste in decorations. Hence, living room may be deemed as a privategallery that accentuates family culture. In Taiwan, the decoration of living room often features similar appearances, such as mounted calligraphy that carries remonstrative messages, thus constructing a Taiwanese sense of living room. As compared to other forms of art, calligraphy is a popular aesthetics that is prevalent in Chinese culture, and is also a charming and unique symbol of the Oriental attribute.

BEE WONDER

However, under the influences of modernism and Western culture, does the Taiwanese style living room still maintain its Taiwanesequalities? And are calligraphy sayings still commonly seen in modern living rooms, or has the appearance already becomenostalgia in memory? We invite two young artists for the show, Ta-Hsien JEN and Hsiu-Ju CHENG, who are specialized in artistic creations using steel structures and two-dimensional lines and wallpapers. They will three-dimensional space that interwines virtuality and reality by their artistic installation, which constructs living room settings best present the Taiwanese characteristics or modern features. Moreover, artists from central Taiwan who often use calligraphy for artistic expressions are invited to show calligraphy works that are most suitable for living room display. These calligraphy works will be directly exhibited or displayed via slide projectors in order to make calligraphy interact and intertwine with the installations. In this exhibition, the calligraphy images appear in both virtual and real forms. This format of presentation on the one hand echos with the construction of virtual and real spaces of the installation works, on the other hand, allows us to elaborate on whether the aesthetics of using calligraphy to express cautionary proverbs still prevails in modern homes. Or, has calligraphy become an artistic expression and visual aesthetics in home decoration.
