I painted a skateboard for Mrs. Harris and a charity event for Share, using acrylic paint and gold leaf accents. I painted a water buffalo (with creative licence) and used this piece as the beginning for my AP Portfolio. I’ve always been very fascinated in water buffalo’s and I was very excited to create this piece with my AP ‘theme’ in mind.

I wanted to focus on mixing paint from primary’s and specifically browns/ skin tones. I decided to paint a cow with those same tones and I also was able to Incorporate my most recent study of painting clouds, for the background.

Self portrait- Andreea Coori 13

20

My piece is a self portrait with baby pink and pale lilac roses in my hair. The background displays vertical brush strokes with colors that match the roses and the crimson color of my lace shirt. I did this piece because I never done a self portrait before and I wanted to step out of my comfort zone because I feel insecure about how I look. I also wanted to experiment with a more chaotic background instead of a solid color to create contrast with the realistic aspects of the portrait/ focal point. 14

First I took a photo of one of my peers. I stretched myself using oil paints. Using acrylic I made a base for my painting and after I started using oil paints to add more detail to my piece. It took a long time to get to a point where I thought I was done. I’ve never painted flowers before. Overall this piece was an experiment.

I painted a scene from a place that is very special to me and my family. It is a place in Bend, Oregon called “Pronghorn. For my investigation I wanted to experiment on how I could show emotion through painting with different techniques. 21

I created two paintings referenced from the book and movie “It by Steven King. I focused on having a similar design aspect in both paintings, so I can create a series based off of them in the future. I also focused on shading realistically and paying attention to light sources and shadows. I wanted the people to stand out and contrast with the background. I also worked on emotions and facial expresions and worked on showing those through shading and lighting.

The goal of this piece was to create an environment that gave people different emotions/reactions to it. I worked on different sketches of my plans for the piece. I research different reference photos of the fort at different times of the day and also just using my own experiences to determine a darker/ close to night piece would work best based on my own emotions, but different audiences members had their own recreation. This is my first project working with oil paints and a lot of my project was working with the oils (and trying different mediums for the oil) and discovering all the textures I want especially for the grass and sky. I did some of my experate canvas panel while some of it was just going for it on exe painting. Something else I did to challenge myself which was ned, but helped me grow as an artist was I only used white and Expect one time I accidentally cheated and used a premixed ord me improve my painting and mixing colors. The first revision was that it was going to be a lot more colorful and be more exmore somewhat realistic style with more neutral colors (mosted primary colors challenge) and it almost has a darker gloomy ery welcomed. It still has brightness in the sky still though and hanges were influenced by critiques Miguel had and though my the fort just a bit more to add more of a wood texture. It looks und. I got a critique from Sam C. to add more depth to the fort too. 28

Umbrellas

My AP portfolio focuses around the Hong Kong protests that have been going on for over half a year. Umbrellas are the symbol of the protests, protecting the protesters from the hot sun, but also the gases that are being sprayed against them by the police. In that sense, what we view as an every-day object is being used as a shield.

This piece illustrates the fight in me when it comes to equality for the LGBT community. Growing up with lesbian parents I had issues with bullies and just opposition in general, not for me but those I care oul, so I drew my own eyes and did so were sad and full of pain. I’m hoping this t isn’t over.

This piece was a part of my series that is very unconventional for a VA artist. Most Visual Art, and art in general involves a process of planning, revision, asking for feedback from others, repeat, but I wanted this project to be completely different. I wanted to be a narcissist. Haha, but in more seriousness, my goal of this series was to learn more about myself, and how my artistic process is affected by the rest of my life on the everyday. This idea is spurring many incredibly non-congruent, but very fun pieces of art. This is different from what I have done the majority of my life, because the rest of my work has a lot of depth and hidden meaning, but this series is purely about what I’m wanting to do at the time that I happen to have art class. In this instant, I was hungry, so I drew some fruit.

This art piece is a sketch to an unfixed digital painting. The people in the drawing are my close friends I’ve accumulated over the years on the internet. From Saudi Arabia to the Philippines and even here in the USA, I’ve gotten to know these cultures from all over the world that many don’t get to see. To thank my comrades for allowing to learn so much about our world, I am working on this piece.

This is a piece created to show the depth of life and how some things may be far apart, but they are all connected. I wanted there to be a contrast, so for the whale I did pointillism, and just regular drawing for the flowers.

Pandora’s box I created this piece to try a new style of artwork. Rather than realism or a portrait, I decided to go for a sequential art piece. I chose the greek myth of Pandora’s Box to retell in a more modern setting, in comic form. I did this to improve on sequential art, and through studies, develop my own style of “cartoon” that isn’t realism, but still has details and contrast that I usually add. 54
