Lovell
“ We disagree as to where we met.”
Harry ’60 and Uretta Mounts ’61 were both theatre majors at Illinois Wesleyan. Harry says the couple met in the Grill, and Uretta says it was in the Hut (Spotlight Alley Theatre). Despite this uncertainty, the Lovell’s have been together since their days at IWU. The Lovell’s wed June 25, 1961 in Odell, IL, accompanied by many Wesleyan alums. After college, Harry taught elementary school in Pontiac for nine years while Uretta taught first grade for four years. The Lovell’s then started the Vermillion Players Theatre, which is still running today. In 1968, Harry and Uretta moved to Bloomington-Normal where Harry taught five more years of sixth grade, before going to work at IWU for 28 years. Harry served as the Alumni Director for 17 years. Uretta started work again after their youngest child was in school, teaching first grade in Bloomington for over twenty years. Both now retired, Uretta teaches part time as a substitute in Bloomington, and devotes three mornings a week teaching preschool. Harry sings with a barbershop chorus and has fun with arts and crafts. They have four children including Rhys Lovell, an ’87 IWU graduate who currently teaches as an adjunct professor of theatre at both IWU and ISU and Megan Lovell Lodewyck, a ’98 IWU graduate of the School of Nursing. Both Harry and Uretta are proud grandparents. 302 Margaret Avenue, Normal, IL 61761-22815 hlovell@iwu.edu 9
