About Samwaad Samwaad is the landmark literary event of Kashiyatra, the annual cultural festival of IIT (BHU) Varanasi. Held every year in the serene winter of January, Samwaad offers you 3 days of fun filled literary competitions. The debates will set the temperatures soaring in the cold mornings of Varanasi. General Information: a. The event shall be held in 3 levels: Day 0: Prelims (in-station) Day 1: Prelims (out-station) Day 2: Semi Finals Day 3: Finals b. Judging at any level shall be done on three grounds: Manner, Matter and Method. c. Prelims: i. This shall be a solo round. ii. Format: An impromptu debate with preparation and speaking time of 3 minutes each. d. Semi Finals: i. Candidates shall be selected on the basis of their performance in Prelims irrespective of total number of qualifying candidates. ii. This shall be a solo round iii. Format: A prepared debate. Topic shall be released the previous night. iv. Other rules shall be declared on the spot. e. Finals: i. Finals shall be held in the Asian parliamentary debating style. ii. Team structure and exact rules of the PD shall be released after the Semi Finals.

Imagine yourself to be on a cruise to the "Land of Sixty-nines" with 69 other famous personalities travelling along. From Marilyn Munroe to Katrina Kaif. From Einstein to Hawkins. Sunny..... Deol to Leone. Yes! Indeed remarkable!! But here's the tragic part, the ship hits an iceberg and starts going deep into water. But our ship has a courteous captain, highly impressed by your charisma and gives you one last chance to save your life and offers you "LIFE JACKET", but are you really worth it? Save your life, word battle with others, outsmart them and prove yourself to be better than the rest. Live or die, choice is yours. Info: 1. This is a solo event 2. Format: Knock-out rounds. 3. This is a solo event comprising a single onstage round. Participants are expected to recite an original piece of literary work on a fixed theme/genre. The themes for the event are: Blue, Soul, Karma. Participants can either present a poem or a story or an anecdote. Time limit: 5 minutes Judging shall be done on three grounds: Manner, Matter and Method. Plagiarism is prohibited and shall lead to disqualification.

Order of Phoenix He who must not be named is back...!!! The order of phoenix is no longer the same after Dumbledore's tragic death (or as it appears to be). Voldemort has taken over and the wizarding world is again being threatened by him. So far, only a few Death eaters have been identified and it cannot even be estimated how many of them are there. As it appears, the Ministry itself has been infiltrated and it has ordered to shut down Hogwarts, saying it's no longer safe without 'great' Dumbledore. However, despite the occasional attacks and rugged battles between the Aurors and Death eaters, the problem is a lot worse. Harry Potter is nowhere to be seen. No one knows about his whereabouts. This is a solo event. This is a brand new event being organised for the first time at Samwaad. Each person would play a character. Each character would be played by atleast two participants. Did you ever send a story to Tinkle wishing to see it being illustrated? Here is your chance to get noticed. Write a story, illustrate it and win exciting prizes. You might also get published! Info: • This is an online cartoon strip making event. • Teams of maximum 2 members. • The illustrated story should consist of minimum 2 A4 sheets and maximum 8 A4 sheets, each sheet divided into 3 equal panels; i.e. the comic should have minimum 6 panels and maximum 24 panels. The illustrator(s) has the freedom to divide the panels according to his/her/their requirement. • All the illustrations should be done by hand and no computer graphics will be allowed. • Both the story and the illustration should be original and a declaration must be attached by both the team members regarding the originality. • Scanned copies (or high resolution photographs) or the sheets should be mailed to faciitbhu@gmail.com on or before 1st January, 2014. • Top 3 entries will be asked to mail the original illustrations (which will later be returned) • Theme for the comic: “An ordinary person can do something extraordinary.” • Judging criteria: story and illustration will have 50-50 weightage in judging. • This event is a joint venture of the Literary Club and the Fine Arts Club.
