Bowl-A-Rama | Event In Review One of IIDA OKC City Center’s most popular events, Bowl-A-Rama was a huge success this year. Dust Bowl Lanes in downtown Oklahoma City was filled with a sold-out event of 11 teams comprised of interior designers, architects and industry representatives. A special thanks goes out to Interface Flooring, our generous Presenting Sponsor, and to Jim Sedlacek, the OKC Interface Representative, who joined us to celebrate this annual IIDA OKC City Center charitable event. Bowl-A-Rama benefits Interior Design advocacy in the state of Oklahoma, with a portion of the proceeds donated to Oklahoma Interior Design Coalition (OIDC) memberships and expenses for the IIDA National Advocacy Symposium.

IIDA OKC City Center is so fortunate to have the opportunity to support Focus On home. This year, a portion of the proceeds from IIDA OKC City Center’s Spring event “Cultivate” were donated to Focus on Home. And most recently, several of the OKC City Center Council members and friends gave their time to help make a home for a family.

During the day, the volunteers furnished and decorated two bedrooms and a living room with both new and gently used donated items. Mandy Richey, IIDA OKC CC Membership Co-Chair, brought her 12-year-old daughter along to volunteer. Mandy commented on how it really helped her daughter put into perspective all the things (such as furniture) many of us take for granted.

Emerging Leaders Program IIDA is dedicated to enhancing the profession of Interior Design through education, training and making social connections. As an organization, it is important to seek new ways to accomplish these specific goals. IIDA Texas/Oklahoma feels that the best way to do this is through our current and future leaders! In order to better identify and foster great leaders within the industry we feel that it is time to develop a program that addresses those needs. For that reason, we are happy to announce our new Emerging Leaders Program set to Launch in January of next year!!! The program is intended to run a full calendar year, with a predetermined number of open spots. IIDA OKC is dedicated to structuring a program that not only expands upon leadership skills, but also meets technical, social and cultural needs for our region. To ensure the success of this program, IIDA OKC called upon local Principals and Lead Designers to discuss what they feel is most needed to create an amazing leader and designer. We called this meeting of leaders The Principals Round Table. The event focused on proposed curriculum for the program with intent to restructure based on comments and feedback. Examples of proposed courses include but are not limited to, Networking and Goal Setting, Presentation Skills, Client Interaction, Advocacy, Leadership 101 and Gaining and Attaining projects. VOLUNTEERISM OPPORTUNITY As we begin forming the foundation of The Emerging Leaders Program, we will be looking for a large pool of volunteers and volunteer educators.
