ART & ARTIFACTS l EVENT IN REVIEW Thank you for another successful Art & Artifacts event! With just over 300 people attending, we were able to bring this event to a new level at the Bell Tower on 34th. We had attendees participate in costumes with plenty of photo opportunities at our photobooth and backdrop. Not to mention, our live band, The Space Rockets, set the tone for the glamourous night. The night ended with the lucky winners of our raffle packages and silent auction packages. ZEROLANDFILL l EVENT IN REVIEW IIDA Houston City Center’s ZeroLandfill event this fall was an incredible success thanks to some new changes and involvement. JCS continues to be the generous and supportive sponsor by offering up their facility for every ZeroLandfill event. Additionally, they extended their own trucks to pick-up materials from select design firms that had a substantial amount of material. Our first event, Call for Volunteers, was held and sponsored by JCS. Kimball Office hosted a CEU titled “Interaction Style.” It identified people’s interaction styles and taught them how to modify it when around a certain environment. In addition, the volunteer spots were extended and filled for Cultivate and Harvest. Our ZeroLandfill committee collectively extended approximatly 75 boxes to A&D firms, dealers, and vendors. In return, we received over 100 boxes and about 20 pallets of product. In total, it filled an area of approximately 38’ x 87’. Due to the amount of material collected, our volunteers became incredibly important as we needed to sort it all in just two evenings. We allocated two days for Harvest due to the previous year’s turnout and felt it was necessary. Those days were Saturday, November 12th and Sunday November 13th. However, we did not expect for all the materials donated would be picked up by Saturday at 10:30 AM! The success of this event was incredibly rewarding and makes for a very exciting future. Additionally, we would like to give a very special thank you to the companies below as the event would not have been possible without your support. ELEVATE l EVENT IN REVIEW The IIDA TX/OK Industry Roundtable event was revamped this year with a new name and a new topic of discussion. The previous event, known as the Industry Roundtable, which was only opened to industry representatives, is now called Elevate. Elevate Houston was launched on October 13, 2016 at JCS with a mixture of Chapter sponsors, Industry representatives and Houston design professionals. Designers from Gensler, Ziegler Cooper Architects, Abel Design Group, Kirksey, Inventure, WHR, Lauckgroup, Powers Brown Architecture and Mohle Design gave insight on how their firms handle the generational stereotyping issue in our Houston design community. We look forward to the next Elevate event in 2017!
