7th Annual IIDA Product Runway | Event Recap Produced by the IIDA Houston City Center’s Community Service Chairs: Heather Rogers of McCoy Workplace Solutions and Kristina Lopez of JCS, 04/17/15 marked the 7th Annual IIDA Product Runway Fashion Show in Houston. This year’s event was judged by an incredible panel of experts: Professor of Fashion Design at Houston Community College, Alex Chapman; Founder of Houston Fashion, Jared Lang; Editor in Chief at Houston Modern Luxury Magazine, Jeff Gremillion and Publisher of Houston Design Resources Magazine, Michelle Maresh. IIDA Product Runway 2015 attracted media coverage from Modern Luxury, Houston Design Resources Magazine, KHOU, among others, and was attended by nearly 1,500 people. 19 teams competed in this year’s Product Runway competition, all of which consisted of local interior design and architecture professionals and interior design students. With this year’s theme: True Colours, each team was assigned a colour paired with an emotion. The team’s creations were required to reflect an abstract interpretation of their assigned emotion, while also meeting the challenge of being a majority of their assigned colour. The garments were handmade by the team members themselves and were created using architectural finish materials such as glass, tile, carpet and wood that were assigned to each team. The final garment entries were showcased in a runway performance by each team’s model, on a 150’ long elevated runway at Bayou Music Center.

The impressive stage design emphasized the theme of the evening with huge handcrafted paintings, created by PDR. The two large 10’x12’ customized painting were mapped out into various sizes and were made available for purchase to attendees of Product Runway. Following the event, the canvases were cut down and wrapped around canvas frames by Skyline Art Services. Final donations from the event were as follows: $35,000 to the Houston Furniture Bank, $5,000 to TAID and $5,000 to the IIDA Education Foundation. IIDA Houston City Center is proud to announce that over $100,000 has been raised for The Houston Furniture Bank through this annual event. The Houston Furniture Bank has helped thousands of families by providing them with the necessary furnishings to create a home that improves their overall living condition and helps elevate their personal pride and dignity. Ziegler Cooper Architects took home 2nd place, while PBK was awarded 3rd Place. PBK was also acknowledged as the Most Philanthropic team and was also voted on by audience members as Crowd Favorite. The Student Best in Show award went to Houston Community College. PDR was awarded the Best Use of Colour award; Kirksey Architecture was awarded Best Craftsmanship; Kathy Andrews Interiors was awarded Best New Arrival; Gensler was awarded Most Sustainable, and HOK was awarded Most Wearable.

IIDA Houston had an AMAZING turnout at the Annual Membership Social at the Warehouse Bar and Chill in the Heights on Wednesday Evening (September 23rd). No one left empty handed, as everyone received koozies, good eats and drinks, quality time networking and catching up with Industry peers, valuable information pertaining to IIDA Membership and how to make the most out of the Membership, Product Runway and Arts and Artifacts Information, and the ever-important Sustainability information and how we are implementing it into our Council. There were 7 lucky raffle winners, with items ranging from Houston Rodeo Tickets to Kendra Scott Jewelry to a really cool Moscow Mule Set. We even gave away 2 memberships- a Professional and Associate Membership- to two very deserving recipients. All in all, upwards of 75 people attended. Thanks to

all the volunteers that helped set-up, host the informational tables, and clean up. A Special Thanks to Amanda Meininger for coming through with some amazing graphics and ideas that were used and were a smashing success at the Event! Also thanks to The Warehouse for doing an amazing job and being so attentive and easy to work with. For it being a relatively new, tucked away bar in a very Industry-heavy location, this Event definitely helped put them on the map and I would expect them to have some residual business from the impressed IIDA Members and Prospective Members from our Event.
