IIDA Membership Social | Event in Review IIDA Houston had an AMAZING turnout at the 2015 Annual Membership Social at the Warehouse Bar and Chill in the Heights. No one left empty handed, as everyone received koozies, good eats and drinks, quality time networking and catching up with Industry peers, valuable information pertaining to IIDA Membership and how to make the most out of the Membership, Product Runway and Arts and Artifacts Information, and the everimportant Sustainability information and how we are implementing it into our Council. There were 7 lucky raffle winners, with items ranging from Houston Rodeo Tickets to Kendra Scott Jewelry to a really cool Moscow Mule Set. We even gave away 2 memberships- a Professional and Associate Membership- to two very

deserving recipients. All in all, upwards of 75 people attended. Thanks to all the volunteers that helped set-up, host the informational tables, and clean up. A Special Thanks to Amanda Meininger for coming through with some amazing graphics and ideas that were used and were a smashing success at the Event! Also thanks to The Warehouse for doing an amazing job and being so attentive and easy to work with. For it being a relatively new, tucked away bar in a very Industry-heavy location, this Event definitely helped put them on the map and I would expect them to have some residual business from the impressed IIDA Members and Prospective Members from our Event. - Ryan Rice, Membership Chair

HOUSTON CITY CENTER IIDA Principal’s Round Table | A Note from the Director Welcome to 2016! In an effort to better serve our members and industry, the Houston City Center of IIDA’s Texas/Oklahoma Chapter recently convened the 2016 Principal’s Roundtable; commencing the new year with great conversation and company in what we hope will be the first of many sessions engaging with our area’s design leaders. As our chapter of IIDA looks at developing an Emerging Leaders program to nurture the next generation of design leaders, it is this information that will be critical in ensuring that the program is relevant and successful. Principals from firms large and modest, international and local generously shared their time and insights on the state of design in our region, what they see for our future, and thoughts on how to get there. Hot topics included: Diversification of practice as a means of thriving in an uncertain economy Fluidity of communication, location and specialty to support Diversification Technology’s impact on design and our practice (good and bad) The Process, and how we ensure it remains a foundation of practice and celebrated Business Skills as a metric for advancement to leadership Mentoring and Leadership Development, at all levels of practice The importance of Advocacy for our industry We were excited to hear that our annual IIDA Product Runway event is seen as a fantastic showcase of The Process. From creative brief, conceptual design, sketching, materials development, and communication, to fabrication and presentation, few other events or opportunities provide such a thorough immersion in The Process. Taking from the great information shared at this and other IIDA Principal’s Roundtables, we are excited to develop our Emerging Leaders initiative. We will continue to engage with these Principals and our membership on this program, and look forward to sharing as we design and implement it throughout our chapter. We had about ninety people in attendance and mixed things up a little this year by doing it speed dating style!
