HOUSTON CITY CENTER LETTER FROM THE DIRECTOR Summer is always an exciting time for our organization because it symbolizes the beginning of a new year. Coming off the incredible successes the IIDA Houston City Center has witnessed in the past year, I couldn't be more thrilled to be the new Director, and I can't wait to see what the coming year has in store for our City Center! In July, the 2014-2015 Chapter Board members were graciously hosted by Tandus Centiva for a 4-day orientation retreat in beautiful Chattanooga, Tennessee. It seemed like we had only just finished stuffing ourselves with Moon Pies before we were gearing up for METROCON14 and the Inspire14 Gala and Awards ceremony in Dallas, where we celebrate excellence in design and recognize outstanding volunteerism in our organization. Not surprisingly, the new Houston City Center Council is raring to go! We've already started planning a fabulous schedule of events for 2014-2015, and we continue to search for new opportunities to deliver knowledge, fuel inspiration, and elevate the interior design profession. Last year, we teamed up with AIA to bring the inimitable Margo Grant Walsh to Bayou Bend for an evening of fascinating stories and invaluable career advice. The event was such a success that we can't wait to explore more synergies with other local design organizations. Our goal has always been to create unique events that provide true value to our members and our partners. We're going to hit the ground running with a power-packed couple of days at the end of September. We will host our Industry Round Table on September 24th, followed by Leaders Breakfast on September 25th at the Royal Sonesta Hotel Galleria. If you don't have a ticket already, you better get moving. This is one event you don't want to miss! That same evening, we'll be holding our annual Membership Social, the perfect opportunity to get all your closest buddies involved in IIDA. And, don't forget that October's Art & Artifacts will be here before we know it! With all this excitement, I know this year is going to be one for the record books. In the last few years, our organization has been gathering momentum, and I will strive to continue that trend. I truly believe that our City Center has the best volunteers, underwriters, and Chapter Partners. Hands down. This amazing support is the backbone to our organization's continued success and growth, and I am dedicated to doing my part in any way I can.
