Art & Artifacts “Putting on the Ritz” Recap IIDA Houston City Center’s annual fundraiser, Art & Artifacts, was held on Friday, October 18th at The Marque in City Centre. The event, coordinated by underwriting Chair Margot Prestel raised thousands of dollars to help IIDA support its mission. Themed “Putting on the Ritz”, the design competition involved members capturing the 1920’s in modern times through photography. Upon arriving at the venue, guests were greeted by a posh red carpet and stunning backdrop. Once inside, guests could choose from an endless spread of swag to accessorize their twenties inspired attire and were free to roam though the venue’s opulently decorated rooms. Featuring multiple rooms seemingly right out of a Fitzgerald novel, guests sipped on champagne garnished by classic rock candy while waiting to have a movie flipbook made as a token of their “ritzy” evening.

Some socialized while lounging in posh booths and opulent chaises. Others explored The Marque admiring the amazing photography that captured an era now gone yet still in evidence if you look closely. Still others were able to bid on a wide selection of donated products, gift certificates etc. at the silent auction. When it was finally time to go home, they were sent away with chocolate cigars as a token of an evening that simply put, was “The Bees Knees”.

TBAE Update: Everything you need to know about Fingerprinting

In the spring of 2013, the Texas Legislature passed a new law requiring all TBAE registrants to submit a set of fingerprints to be used to conduct a criminal history check. TBAE is now prohibited by law from issuing or renewing an Active status license without fingerprint submission. The fingerprints will be cross-‐referenced with DPS and FBI to notify TBAE of certain arrests or convictions in the future. Beginning with renewals or new applications on or after January 1, 2014, TBAE will require new incoming registrants and renewing Active-‐status registrants to submit fingerprints for criminal history checks. Inactive and Emeritus status registrants need NOT submit fingerprints until they become Active again. The fingerprint scheduling process is available now and is strongly suggested that registrants not wait until the last minute before their renewal due date as the process takes some time to schedule and will cost approximately $50. To learn more about the process and to get started, go to this informative TBAE link: http://www.tbae.state.tx.us/Registrants/FingerScan. You must allow up to several weeks before your renewal due date to schedule an appointment with an accepted vendor and have the fingerprinting done. TBAE will be notified electronically once the fingerprints are submitted and will unlock the registration process to allow registrants to renew registration once the submission process is complete.
