Festival of Trees By: Anita Pattanayak

The annual Festival of Trees at the Peoria Expo Gardens was November 30th to December 2nd. This is an event that benefits Crittenton Center.Crittenton is a child care center that also has a crisis nursery helping those who need emergency childcare at any time. Each year, different organizations decorate artificial trees that are displayed over the weekend for a silent auction. Four fabulous Circle K’ers volunteered. There was also a poinsettia sale, a gift card tree, a crafts sale, and a raffle, among other things. (I had a fail moment when I saw that Circle K had decorated a tree. It wasn’t us. This time it was the gas station)

Yule Like Peoria By: Ben Leege A couple of weeks ago, several members of Bradley Circle K volunteered with the Peoria Park District to decorate downtown Peoria for the holidays. Yule Like Peoria is an annual event where volunteers hang garland and bows on light poles on the city streets. We worked with other volunteer organizations and local electric and utility companies. Circle K had two different crews working for the morning. My group, along with a few nice guys from Oberlander Electric, decorated more than 30 poles in just a couple of hours. We also got some free food afterward, so you can’t beat that! This event is warmly received by the area residents. While working, we were stopped by people thanking us. One said he always looks forward to this time of year, and Yule Like Peoria just adds to that enjoyment!

New Member Induction By: Yvonne Intsiful

Hello my name is Yvonne Intsiful, and I am the President of Bradley University Circle K. On November 4th, I had the pleasure to oversee the new member induction ceremony for my Circle K club. 11 new fresh and energetic members were inducted during the ceremony. The ceremony included appetizers, speeches from club officers, Governor Sabrena, Lieutenant Governor Spenser, and finally the induction of the new members in attendance. Also in attendance were four local Kiwanis club members, and two Key club members. The Key club members came with college appropriate gifts of ramen noodles and other items for the new members. Overall, the ceremony went very well, and I wish nothing but the best for Bradley Circle K’s newest members. “The speakers did a fantastic job, and the whole thing was put together very well. It feels great knowing I'm officially part of Circle K.” – Jeremy Flahaven "I've always loved doing volunteer work through my church and school, but joining Circle K has provided me with a family of students my own age who are just as eager to help others as I am. The induction ceremony on Sunday was the first step to my Circle K life. I could not be more proud to join the family." - Emma Walser

Service Men and Women By: Yvonne Intsiful

On Sunday, November 11th a few members of Bradley Circle K attended a Veterans Day themed meeting. The meeting first started off with a powerpoint that gave a few facts about Veterans Day and the importance of it. During the second part of the meeting, the members created thank you cards for the Land of Lincoln Honor Flight. The Land of Lincoln Honor Flight is a program that takes veterans that served in a war to a day trip in Washington D.C. in which they can visit memorials there. During the flight, the veterans will receive cards from people like us that are positive and grateful for their service in the armed forces. Making these cards was a fun and quick service event. The Land of Lincoln Honor Flight accepts cards year round, so this might be a service project that the club will participate in again.
