This autumn Sidcot Arts Centre, Sidcot School has several creative events inspired by our Quaker roots. From work by an International Quaker artist to a Big Draw Day, there is something to draw everyone to create in our Quaker season. In October following on from Ron’s Exhibition, Sidcot Arts Centre presents the annual photographic display of 12 panels

from the Quaker Tapestry, a modern equivalent to the Bayeux Tapestry. The Quaker Tapestry was made from 1981 to 1996 by over 4,000 men, women and children from fifteen countries to chart the 350 year old history of Quakerism. The photographs are on loan from the Quaker Tapestry Exhibition Centre in Kendal, Cumbria. The exhibition is open from Monday 4th – Saturday 9th October 2010 and is open Tuesday, Thursday from 3 – 5pm and Saturday 1- 4pm. In conjunction with the Quaker Tapestry display, visitors are encouraged to get their pencils at the ready, as Sidcot Arts Centre takes part, once again, in the National Arts Campaign the Big Draw on Saturday 9th October 2010, 1 - 4pm.

October visitors can come along and be inspired by the Quaker Tapestry to create pictures, doodles or drawings of every shape and size which will be used to cover the large walls of the Arts Centre. Drop in any time to the Arts Centre between 1 - 4pm and simply follow the Big Draw signs. Sidcot is pleased to be supporting the Big Draw 2010. All these events are free so why not come along and join in! For more information about these events please contact Alexis Butt, Arts and Letting Manager on 01934 845228 or email artscentre@sidcot.org.uk or check out our website www.sidcotartscentre.com

In celebration of the National Big Draw Campaign which is held annually between 1st – 31st

The Keepsake Co, based in Shepton Mallet, has gone from strength to strength over the last year. Since moving into their larger shop they have built up a busy ceramic cafe allowing children and adults to come and paint a mug, plate or even capture a handprint on a money box! A very popular idea is to come and make your own gifts for loved ones birthdays or to celebrate a special occasion such as a Christening. You can also make teddy bears and get messy with clay all with the comfort of knowing someone else will be cleaning up the mess when you leave! You can come on your own or even host a craft party to celebrate a birthday (and no it is not just for the little ones – they also host ladies and corporate evenings – just bring food and wine!). The Keepsake Co. is still offering all their other keepsake services from 3D Castings, impressions and their ever popular personalised jewellery featuring fingerprints, artwork and handprints. It is advisable to book an appointment before travelling on 01749 344699 or you can have a kit sent through the post if you would like some jewellery made, meaning you never have to leave the house. If you are creative, love children and would like some extra cash then please get in touch as they are currently looking for party hosts, workshop trainers and people who make their own products to supply their gift shop. The Keepsake Co is based in Shepton Mallet, Somerset, and is open Monday, Tuesday and Thursday and all other times by appointment.
