Under 23s
lues Under-23s fell to a 5-0 defeat at the hands of Nottingham Forest in their most recent Premier League 2 outing.
Steve Spooner’s side felt the full force of the Reds’ attacking prowess as they found themselves with little but pride to play for in the secondhalf after a chastening opening 45 during which they conceded four times. A quartet of goals in a period just shy of half an hour damaged Blues’ hopes of taking anything significant from their visit to the East Midlands, with Ateef Konate striking first after 14 minutes and Will Swan getting his first of the evening midway through the half. And the tough going was made no easier when Ollie Hammond and Julian Larsson also found their shooting boots to put the game beyond the visitors by the interval. Swan rounded off the scoring by completing his brace with an hour played, but in spite of the deficit, Blues kept battling and created
the game’s last goalscoring chance of note. However, on a night when nothing was falling for the away side, Remi Walker’s on-target header was pushed over well by the Forest ‘keeper. Blues sit 13th in the table after five matches, with one win to date. They lie a single place above Southampton who they face in their next PL2 fixture on Monday 27
September at Wast Hills Training Ground. This game is followed by an away trip seven days later to take on Reading.
