IES TIERRA DE CIUDAD RODRIGO

LANGUAGE IMMERSION PROGRAMME IN LEKAROZ, NAVARRA 2015

From the 11th to the 17th of October, a group of students from “IES Tierra de Ciudad Rodrigo went to Lekaroz, Navarra to participate in a Language Immersion Programme organised by the MECD to do our project about the environment. There, we learned English and met people from Catalonia, they were very nice! We want to go back there, it was very funny!!

SUNDAY The 11th of October arrived at last, and at 8:30 a.m. we met at the high-school for the bus trip. We had a long trip ahead of us from Ciudad Rodrigo to Lekaroz (Navara). It took us approximately 7 hours, so we stopped twice to relax.

When we arrived at the hostel, the teachers showed us around so that we knew the place where we were going to stay. After that , we met the Catalonian students which were going to be with us that week sharing this great experience.

Then, the teachers divided us into different bedrooms. After that, we went to the canteen to have dinner.

When we finished eating, we brushed our teeth and we did more activities. We did one that consisted on asking the teachers some questions .When we finished, we went to bed.

MONDAY When we woke up, we had breakfast in the canteen and we brushed our teeth. Then , we went to our morning lessons. That day, we studied the water cycle. Then, we prepared a natural mural made up by leaves and flowers that we collected in the field around the hostel.

These were some of our murals:

Then, we had lunch and we had free time.

After that, we started working on our project with the teachers of the hostel and later on our high school project about the environment .We took a shower and we had dinner .After that, we did very funny challenges. Here you are some pictures:

Then, we went to brush our teeth and went to bed.

TUESDAY On Tuesday, we woke up at 8 o’clock, we had breakfast and we brushed our teeth. After that, we went to class and we worked on the 3 R´s “Reduce, Reuse and Recycle”. We also learned that there are two more: Refuse and Rethink.

Then, we did a fashion show with recycled materials. “Adriana” won, but we needed to break the tie because “Conchita” did it very well too.

Next, we ate and we had free time. In the afternoon, we did Olympic Games in the gym and Australia won again.

Afterwards, we continued working on our project about different historical periods and later we worked on our projects about the environment. At night we played a game called Cluedo. It was very funny and we were tired because we ran a lot. Finally, we went to bed at half past ten and some girls wrote the blog as a punishment, although we ended up having a lot of fun. It was a nice day!! 

WEDNESDAY We woke up at 8 o´clock in the morning and we went downstairs to the canteen to have breakfast. When we finished , we had a short free-time. After that, we had class from 9:30 to 11:20. In the class we did activities related to "Renewable Energies". Then, we had a little break before we did a game called “Egg Drop”. It consisted on dropping an egg which was in a plastic bottle, without breaking it.

Next, we had lunch and after lunch another short free-time we went on an excursion to the villages around the hostel: Irurita and Gartzaitz.

When we arrived from the excursion , we continued with the high school Project. At 8 o´clock in the afternoon we took a shower and then we called our parents to tell them what we did. At about 8:45 we had dinner. After that, we went to the classroom to watch a movie called “THE MASK”. Finally , we went to bed at 10:30.

THURSDAY When we woke up in the morning we had breakfast and then we went to our class at 9:20. In our classes, we did worksheets about "Endangered Animals", and then, we searched information about those animals around the hostel. When we had that information, we went to the big room and we did an activity about searching photos of endangered animals with the rest of the classes, the class that had the most points won. After that, we went for lunch and when we finished we made a funny video (a "lip-dub"); the boys dressed up as girls and, girls dressed up as boys.

When we finished recording that video, we went to our classes to prepare the projects about 50s-60s-70s-80s.

When we finished those projects, we had 45 minutes of free time and after the 45 minutes we recorded the high school project.

Then, we went to have a shower and to get the mobiles, and after that, we had dinner. Later, we played a game with our country that consisted on searching the teachers and asking them questions about different animals to win the game. When we finished the game, we sang and danced to the "Chiki-Chaka" song and after that we went to bed.

FRIDAY In the morning we had a class about the "Different Countries in the World". The teacher asked questions and we had to guess the city, country or continent. In the Great Debate all the classes invented a country. Then, we presented the countries, and the best country “won”. They must have a song, a map, a shield and some more information. After that we had the rehearsal for our projects on different historical periods. We dressed up with costumes and we represented some historical periods. For example, when Franco died in the 70´s and we also danced. This was a especial afternoon because the teachers took us to Elizondo, a very nice village about 1 km away from Lekaroz. The teacher prepared a Gymkhana for us, so we had to go around the village completing a worksheet and discovering it. Once we had finished, We bought souvenirs for our family.

Back in the hostel we played a game consisting on answering questions on the worksheets. Each worksheet had a photo of an animal and some information. We also played "Jeopardy". The game was about some things about the environment like water cycle, the three R´s, renewable energies, animals and one of the teachers of Lekaroz. Some questions were very easy and if you guessed right the teachers gave to you 100€ and if you answered it well also they gave to you money 500€. In the disco we had a lot of songs like the Gozadera, the Anthem of Ciudad Rodrigo CF. We also danced to the Macarena, Paquito el chocolatero, bomba and other songs. It was very funny, the best night was the last night at the disco. We sang with the other people, with the teachers and with our Friends. The best thing that we did was dancing the “Chiki Chaka”. The teacher from Barcelona taught it to us and we danced this song a lot.

SATURDAY Unfortunately, our last day in Lekaroz arrived and it was time to pack up and say good-bye... We had not only learnt a lot but we had also enjoyed ourselves a lot and made lots of new friends, so we were very sad to go back home...
