Go play in a winter wonderland ...

Idyllwild experiences four distinct seasons, and wintertime brings it’s own special enjoyments. The only thing better than watching the snow fall through the window of a warm, cozy room is bundling up and going outdoors to experience the sheer thrill of playing or walking in the snow. You’ll be awed by the beauty of the mountain and the forest’s trees covered in snowy splendor. Sleds and snow saucers are usually stocked by several stores, including Fairway Market and local hardware stores.Winter apparel, including boots, coats, hats, scarves and gloves can be found at Wooley’s and Mountain Footwear and Sock Shoppe, as well as others. Good, safe places for snow play include the Idyllwild Community Center site on Ridgeview Drive (an ice skating rink is planned there this winter), at the Idyllwild Park off Riverside County Playground Road, in Humber Park above Fern Valley (if the roads are passable) and at the Idyllwild Nature Center. A word of caution: Please do not sled or play off the highway. It is very dangerous for you and for drivers who are navigating the winter roadway. Also, although it is tempting to sled in the driveway of what appears to be a vacated property, it is Playing in the snow is a great family activity. File photo illegal and you could be cited for trespassing.
