I

Executive Team of I Do Jamaica Magazine

t gives us great pleasure to present the sixth edition of I Do Jamaica.

We t h a n k yo u fo r making I Do part of the planning process for your big day. Each year, our goal is to help you plan the wedding of your dreams in Jamaica. We aim to present information about reliable, competent service providers for all the facets of your wedding – and beyond. We hope that this resource will provide relevant, timely information and help you find the best vendors, thereby ensuring that your destination event is everything it should be.

Over the past six (6) years, we have partnered with Pelican Publishers and the team there has been instrumental in shaping the magazine to ensure it takes its place as the leading wedding publication for the destination wedding industry in Jamaica. To the cadre of writers, photographers, designers, amongst others, who toil behind the scenes to produce a beautiful end product – we salute you! We are indeed fortunate to be supported by a highly effective team, who ‘pulls the whole magazine together.’ Finally, we know the publication would not be the same

– and maybe not even possible - without the support of businesses in the wedding industry. Your advertising with the magazine lends further vibrancy, confirms its legitimacy and provides readers with ready-attheir fingertips information about the businesses they need to find. We thank you. To all our readers, thank you for your feedback and support. We will ensure you have something to look forward to every year!

Sincerely,

Jo-Anne Paxton & Peter Shoucair J.P.

U

ltimately though, it would be a disservice to your taste buds to not sample our delectable Jamaican foods. Stop

by Chelsea Jerk Centre for the best jerk chicken in town, rendezvous at Gloria’s in Port Royal for some mouthwatering steam fish and bammy, and catch up on the game while sipping a cold beer at Usain Bolt’s Tracks & Records. Hey, the infamous athlete

Transportation You can really experience the Kingston culture by hopping on a JUTC bus (yellow bus) but don’t worry, this city is not short of transportation options. Taxi services such as Gadgepro, City Guide, On Time and El-Shaddai can be at your doorstep in a matter of minutes. If you require something a bit more fancy, especially on your wedding day then Limo Tours Limited and Luxury Limos are just a phone call away.

might even pop in. That’s not all though; you must try a delicious beef patty or two or three— take your pick from Devon House, Mother’s or Tastee Patties. Café Blue offers a unique breakfast experience with Blue Mountain Coffee and even gluten free food options. JoJo’s Jerk Pit has Karaoke to entertain you while you dine, and if you’re feeling overwhelmed have a glass of wine at Uncorked. Delicious desserts can be had at Pastry Passions and Chocolate Dreams while Devon House I- Scream adds a sweet touch to your day.

Exploration You must take a tour of the Bob Marley Museum, before you head downtown to explore the National Gallery and the Institute of Jamaica. But your day is not done yet, nighttime is when the town really comes alive. There’s Dub Club offering a unique musical experience up in Jacks Hill, Uptown Mondays in Half Way Tree, Pepperseed Best of the 90's in New Kingston or Fiction Fantasy Fridays at Fiction Night club. Sabina Park offers oldies jam on a Sunday, or you can take in a game of cricket; take your pick!

Jhenelle Dane Feb 17, 2018

Location: UWI Mona Visitors Lodge, Kingston Hotel

This was a classic ‘Mr. & Mrs. Bond’ couple that didn’t spare the excitement even from our engagement session. I remember the glamour and beauty exuded by Jhenelle, and the sophistication, calm and suaveness of Dane. If there was ever a couple that could win “coolest of the year” it would be these two. Their rings were delivered by a drone during the ceremony.

THE POWER OF SEDUCTION To win the game of seduction, you have to be ready for anything. A true seducer knows this, and will never let fear stand in his way. Speed, risk and adrenalin are all part of his DNA. He’s an action hero who tempts danger in all its forms… especially when it’s in the shape of a woman. The new fragrance Power of Seduction introduces a new Antonio Banderas - daring and adventurous. A fresh, youthful and very masculine aroma that incites you to rise to challenges, show daring and overcome whatever barriers are in your way… to be intoxicated by the authentic power of seduction.

young spirit and fresh The power of seduction opens with a fresh and fruity top note of bergamot, blended in a delicious combination with apple to make way for the aromatic heart. Here lavender and sage infuse strength into the youthful, adventurous aroma. The base note, essentially masculine and fi l l e d with personality, takes you by surprise with the quality of its oriental hints counterpoised with the freshness of moss. An innovative, elegant and charismatic perfume to take you to the top of your game.

designed to triumph The Power of Seduction bottle combines the elegance of matt silver metal with vibrant red – a bold color that dominates right from the lower part of the bottle, making it unique and attractive. In contrast to the pure lines of the bottle, the stopper in black rubber adds a sporty, youthful touch to the design.

The outer box adheres to the same design lines i n sober tones of white and metallic grey, enhanced by an intense, eye-catching red. On the label the name of the fragrance i s accompanied by two crossed flags - the signature of Antonio Banderas’ products and a symbol that evokes the pace and adrenalin of the actor’s spirit of adventure.

The Hope Royal Botanic Gardens, commonly called Hope Gardens, is a sprawling 230 acreage of slightly undulating savannahs, with beautiful gardens, rustic gazebos and placid water features located in the Liguanea Plains of urban St. Andrew.

T

he sheer expanse of hope Gardens makes it an unparalleled space in the Kingston metropolis

for creating memorable experiences.

here, mother nature’s bountiful blessings allow for naturally beautiful and intimate settings for picturesque scenes to make your special occasion a fairytale. lush greenery and mountainous backdrop create the perfect canvas to capture a beautiful day.

29

the Sunken Gardens stands out as one of the major attractions for visitors to hope Gardens. the area’s pristine lawn space and tropical feel just invite you to say ‘i do’. the Sunken Gardens and the annual Gardens have been favourites for many couples over the years. the Annual Gardens is home to n u m e ro u s s p e c i e s of exotic flowers and pristine lawns, providing a picture perfect scenery for – you guessed it – those lifetime photobooks or wedding videos.

30

the beautiful cassia siamea grove by the main entrance was planted in 1907, while the other mini-gardens within the park notably the cacti garden, with its rare varietals; the bougainvillea walk with its magnificent explosions of tropical colours; the annual gardens, with numerous species of exotic flowers; the sunken gardens and the lily pond, evolved over the years. like an already perfect woman who needs no makeup to arrest your attention, mother nature presents hope Gardens; the venue which allows you to delete decoration from your wedding budget.

A little history‌ the Gardens were established in 1873 on a section of land from the estate of Major Richard hope, one of the original english colonizers who helped to capture Jamaica from the Spanish in 1655. During that period, the gardens were known as the hope estate, and was renamed the hope Royal botanic Gardens in 1953 when Queen elizabeth ii came to Jamaica.

C

hristina met Tony during her last year in college and

they quickly fell in love. After a decade of dating long-distance Christina finally moved to New York City to be closer to Tony. A year later, he proposed... She said YES!

The Wedding Christina fell in love with Jamaica ever since her first trip at the age of 8. Something about the vibe, the food, the people felt like home to her. On Tony’s first trip to Jamaica, he shared similar sentiments so they decided to create their fairytale wedding on the island. The ceremony took place at the Rockhouse Hotel in Negril. The couple kept the decor simple and elegant, with white flowers, a touch of greenery and lots of candles.

43

The Wedding day Tony and Christina had personal cards delivered to each other before the ceremony. The bride kept her dress simple, opting for a Bacall dress from Houghten NYC. Her ‘something old and blue’ were her grandmother’s sapphire and diamond ring. She wore ‘new’ shoes by Alexander Wang and ‘borrowed’ her sister’s diamond bracelets.

They had an awesome steel band welcoming family and friends- 70 in total who flew in from Taiwan, Italy and the United States.

The setting for the ceremony was perfectoverlooking the ocean during the sunset. After they became Mr. and Mrs. Sorji the real party began. Their first dance as husband and wife was to "I Want to Wake up with You" by Boris Gardiner. The Sorji’s and their wedding guests spent the night on the dancefloor as DJ Paul from Sound Illusions kept the party in full swing.

The couple’s most memorable take away from their island wedding was “being

able to have so many of our closest family and friends with us at one of our favorite places on the planet. Add the amazing Jamaican culture, hospitality, and love that we felt being in Negril - and it becomes magical. Thankfully, the amazing photos by Merrick allow us to relive this moment each and every day.”

These guys were so happy to be in Jamaica for their wedding; they were beaming with joy all day long. I really enjoyed photographing Trevor & Kristina because they were so taken in by each other that capturing awesome moments came just too easy. Trevor could not hold back the tears when he saw Kristina for the first time in her gorgeous gown. The location was perfect with a mix of class, ocean backdrops and familiar Jamaican colours.

Joline Delvin

May 27, 2018

Location: Trident Castle, Portland

This wedding was a clear example of why I encourage couples to do a ‘first look’ portrait session before their ceremony. The completely traditional couples are decreasing, with most now opting for a modified approach to their photo sessions. Taking advantage of a full hour before the ceremony, the newlyweds have more time with their guests and avoid running into night/indoor pictures if it rains. Joline & Delvin were completely happy that they did, as the rains came pouring down in the last segment of their ceremony.

P

ort Antonio is Jamaica's under-theradar destina-

tion, far from the main tourist centres. Tucked away in the Northeast corner of Jamaica, it is highly attractive to those seeking the unspoiled and the authentic. Here, lush tropical vegetation covers the hills that ascend to the majestic Blue Mountains. Calm, clear waters lap the shores of white sand beaches. It is this exotic setting and attention to detail that make a wedding at Hotel Mockingbird Hill so memorable. The experienced on-site wedding planner handles every aspect of the wedding experience including settings, food, decorations, experiences and guest coordination allowing the couple to relax and enjoy their very special moment Favoured venue to say ‘I Do’ as well as to host the reception is the hotel’s veranda, with its stunning coastline and mountainous views, decorated with flowers from the hotel's own gardens. Another option is the tropical gardens beneath the trees with the fragrance of flowers and the soft sounds of nature. Later, you get to fall in love all over again as you dance under the stars. There is also an off-property option to hold the ceremony at nearby Frenchman’s Cove, one of the world’s most beautiful beaches..

63

Hotel Mockingbird Hill encourages guests to take the wedding experience a step further by creating a Green Wedding experience where every detail of the accommodation, wedding and reception is planned with eco sustainability in mind. A wedding experience with a conscience.

Food for the reception is prepared in the award-winning slow food restaurant, Mille Fleurs. Only locally sourced, organic and seasonal ingredients are used at Mille Fleurs — considered one of the best restaurants on the island.

At the hotel, guests can relax while having massages or spa treatments in the wellness garden, lounge by the inviting pool, or simply enjoy some quiet time while absorbing the sights and sounds of nature from their open, airy rooms. In between the wedding activities, guests have a wide range of sights, scenes and exotic experiences to explore in the lovely parish of Portland.

These include: • Dazzling beaches like picture perfect Frenchman’s Cove, San San Beach with its crystal clear waters or Winnifred Beach renown for its local Jamaican cuisine; • Surfing at Boston Bay; • Floating in the multi-hued Blue Lagoon where cool freshwater springs mix with with the warm Caribbean Sea; • Exploring Reach Falls, a waterfall that cascades into an emerald green river pool, ideal for a relaxing swim surrounded by giant ferns and parrots; • Enjoying a tranquil rafting trip down the scenic Rio Grande.
