O Museu das Telecomunicações possui em seu acervo o legado histórico do desenvolvimento das telecomunicações no Brasil, a partir da Companhia Telephonica Brasileira (1918). Trata-se de uma conjunção ressignificativa de memória, do logradouro onde hoje se situa o Museu ao espaço de guarda do acervo, até a formação da coleção atual do Museu das Telecomunicações. É parte de nossa atuação verter um conteúdo em outro.
The Museu das Telecomunicações Oi Futuro (Oi Futuro Telecommunications Museum) has in its collection the historical legacy of telecommunication development in Brazil, from the Companhia Telephonica Brasileira (Brazilian Telephone Company) in 1918. It is a meaningful combination of memories, from the building where the museum is currently situated to the place where the collection is stored, to the creation of the current collection. Part of our work is to change one set of content into another.
O endereço onde hoje se expõe o importante acervo sobre a história da telefonia no Brasil e também se promove a valorização da cultura na cidade do Rio de Janeiro, oferecendo intensa programação de teatro, música, vídeo e arte, foi no passado a Antiga Estação Beira-Mar, em estilo industrial canadense. Uma das primeiras estações telefônicas do Rio de Janeiro, construída entre 1914 e 1918, recebeu esse nome porque o mar quase alcançava o logradouro. Da mesma forma, a reserva técnica do Museu ocupa um importante espaço dentro de uma estação telefônica, hoje já em boa parte desativada. Com o avanço da tecnologia, as “centrais telefônicas” foram diminuindo de tamanho e os espaços reservados à função inicial ficaram vazios e inutilizáveis. Reocupamos esses espaços com arte e memória. The current address for this important collection about the history of telephony in Brazil cultural promotion in the city of Rio de Janeiro, offering an intense programme of theatre, music, video and art, was previously the old Beira-Mar (Seashore) Exchange (in the Canadian industrial style), one of the first telephone exchanges in Rio de Janeiro, constructed between 1914 and 1918. It was given this name because the sea almost reached the building. The museum’s technical collection occupies an important space within a telephone exchange, currently mostly unused. With the advance of technology, telephone exchanges diminished in size and the spaces initially reserved for operation became empty and unused. We reoccupied them with art and memory.
