JURY REPORT Integrity impact award 2023
INTRODUCTION: The Integrity Impact Award, organized by ICC NL, celebrates initiatives demonstrating a significant impact on integrity during the International Week of Integrity. This year, the award focused on three key areas: innovation, scalability, and simplicity.
OUR JURY 2023: Gonzalo Guzman Chief Counsel Ethics & Compliance at Unilever Chair of the Global Commission on Anti-Corruption and Social Responsibility at the International Chamber of Commerce and a member of the Global Future Council on the Future of Governance at the World Economic Forum.
Jessica Surie Senior Policy Advisor Legal / GovTech Economic Affairs City of The Hague Worked as legal counsel for various internationally oriented companies. Specialized in legal ethics and ethical side of digital innovation.
Daniel Malan Director of the Trinity Corporate Governance Lab, Trinity College. Co-Chair of the B20 Task Force on Integrity and Compliance (2022 and 2020), former member of the Global Future Council on Transparency and Anti-Corruption of the World Economic Forum (2019-2022).
FINAL DECISION After thorough deliberation and careful consideration of the qualified submissions, the jury faced a unique situation. Two initiatives emerged as frontrunners, each excelling in different criteria. One initiative was noted for its innovation and technological advancement, while the other was recognized for its simplicity and scalability. Consequently, the jury has decided to award dual winners for the first ICC NL Integrity Impact Award: ABN AMRO and Alliander, in alphabetical order.
Detailed Observations ABN AMRO This initiative was praised for its straightforward approach, effectively utilizing articles, dilemmas, and surveys to engage a broad employee base. Its scalability and the use of existing technology platforms were particularly noted. The global reach of ABN AMRO adds an interesting dimension to the initiative, offering potential insights into diverse employee responses worldwide. Alliander The use of Virtual Reality (VR) for immersive experiences was highly regarded. Alliander’s initiative allows participants to view scenarios from different perspectives, fostering a deeper understanding of integrity. While the scalability was a concern due to the physical limitations of VR headsets, the initiative's interactive and modern approach, including its future potential in our evolving world, was highly appreciated.
Criteria Assessment The assessment criteria for the award included commitment to the Week of Integrity, visibility on various platforms, innovation, relevance, scope and impact, replicability, stakeholder engagement, metrics and KPIs, and peer recognition. Both winners demonstrated excellence in these areas, albeit in different manners.
Conclusion The Integrity Impact Award recognizes the efforts of ABN AMRO and Alliander in promoting integrity within their organizations and the broader community. Their initiatives reflect a strong commitment to ethical practices and set a high standard for future participants. The jury congratulates both organizations for their outstanding contributions and encourages them to continue their efforts in fostering a culture of integrity. Addendum to the Jury report: In a demonstration of ethical conduct, ABN AMRO, a member of the Board of ICC NL, chose to withdraw its submission. This decision was made to eliminate any possible perception of a conflict of interest, reflecting our shared commitment to integrity. In an effort to ensure transparency and fairness, and to honour the outstanding efforts of both organizations, we have decided to publish the complete Jury report.
