Nowadays, most people not only associate the town of Radolfzell on Lake Constance with Schiesser, the well-known underwear brand. The town is also known for holidays, relaxation, leisure and health. Blessed with an ideal climate (Radolfzell boasts the most hours of sunshine on the lake), it has a southern flair that is reflected in the way of life of the people who live here. Situated at the heart of the holiday region of Untersee, the town of Radolfzell captivates visitors with its charm. There is plenty to discover here: a medieval town centre, attractive gardens in the town’s former moat, narrow lanes and historic buildings. With a wide choice of regional products such as fish from Lake Constance, wines, vegetables and salads, the region also spoils guests with culinary delicacies. A visit to the weekly market on Wednesday and Saturday mornings and the culinary evening market in the summer months on the market square should not be missed. Vitality up to old age is the aim of Mettnau health resort on the peninsula of the same name. The health concept not only includes medical aspects, but also focuses on exercise and healthy nutrition. The choice of leisure activities in the town and surroundings is almost inexhaustible, ranging from a peaceful boat trip, a hike or a cycle tour accompanied by a local expert, to all kinds of water sports. The extensive nature reserves on Mettnau peninsula and the magical Mindelsee lake near the village of Möggingen teem with life. Numerous species of birds breed here in the summer months. Countless migrant birds use the lake as a stop-over on their way south. They are also the subject of ornithological research by the Max Planck Institute at Radolfzell ornithological station. Those interested can gain an insight into the scientists’ work in the institute’s new visitors’ centre in Möggingen Castle.
