Bringing people from cultures as different as China and Brazil closer seemed an impossible challenge just over a year ago. The idea came up in a conversation with friends and immediately moved something in me.

Being a Chinese descendant, like my wife, Ana, and being Brazilian already spoke for itself: integration between peoples was more than possible. It was a reality that was in our DNA and culture. The real challenge was to expand this experience to other people. A challenge that we, with the help of many people, embraced. But where to start?

The answer was in the words of Confucius (551 BC - 479 BC), the Chinese philosopher who influenced peoples from several Asian cultures: work carrying a handful of earth at a time. We wanted to make a mountain, but it was a continental size mountain, as China and Brazil are. To our happiness, we found amazing people who shared our dream.

We organized our activities in five pillars: Integrate communities; Value cultures; Preserve history; Encourage partnerships; and Promote development. With planning and focus, we held events, debates, seminars and lectures. We learned, we taught, we shared. In just one year, we received recognition from Brazilian and Chinese entities, municipal, state and federal governments, and from leaders of the communities to which we belong. I am proud of what was accomplished and everyone who made it possible. Achievements we have gathered in this yearbook and share with you. The future is unpredictable, but we have firmness in our purpose: bringing people closer and developing them. We have come a long way, but we know there is a long way ahead of us and we still have a lot of room to improve our performance. I hope next year you will be part of this story.

The proposal was enthusiastically accepted by all to whom it was presented. ABOUT THE YEARBOOK We are a socio-cultural institute dedicated to promoting integration between the cultures and peoples of Brazil, China and other Portuguese speaking countries and regions. We started our activities in 2018 and we already have many stories to tell. We had excellent results in our actions, advancing with ethics and social commitment. We have gathered in this yearbook our most important achievements. We are happy to share our projects with you.

Wherever you go, go with all your heart�. Confucius
ntegrate comes from the Latin word integrare, which means gather. Ibrachina moves between communities in different countries, working to bring people and cultures closer together. We make this integration through events that bring together representative groups of peoples’ cultural movements, such as Olodum, which projected Brazilian afro reggae internationally, and the Dragon and Lion Dances, representative elements of Chinese culture, among other initiatives. Learn about some of the meetings we promoted and participated in our path. 10

YANG WANMING AMBASSADOR RECEPTION The People’s Republic of China changed its ambassador to Brazil in 2019. Ibrachina President Thomas Law attended the reception dinner of the new ambassador, Mr. Yang Wanming, at the invitation of the Chinese Cultural Association in Brazil.
LECTURE
PHILOSOPHICAL DIALOGUES ON WESTERN AND EASTERN CULTURES - SP Ibrachina promoted the lecture “Philosophical Dialogues on Brazilian Western Culture and Chinese Eastern Culture”. At the opening of the event, Ibrachina chairman Thomas Law welcomed teachers Willis Santiago Guerra Filho and Chu Yu Gi for a chat on the topic. 12

EVENT
CHINESE NEW YEAR WITH OLODUM AT FAAP - SP The Olodum Group shared the stage with the traditional Dragon and Lion Dance at Chinese New Year celebrations. The event brought together Chinese cuisine, tai chi chuan workshops, kung fu, acupuncture and Chinese calligraphy classes. The celebration was held through a partnership between Ibrachina and FAAP Confucius Business Institute. 14

CONTRACTS AND THE CIVIL CODE - PORTO - PORTUGAL In partnership with the Faculty of Law of the University of Porto - FDUP and IBCJ, Ibrachina held the seminar “Contracts and the Civil Code”. The event took place at the Noble Hall of the Portuguese university and brought together experts to promote highly qualified debates on issues under the Portuguese and Brazilian Contracts and Civil Code.

INTERNATIONAL ARBITRATION: A PRACTICAL ANALYSIS - SP) The initiative of Ibrachina and the Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo - PUC-SP, with the support of the Confucius Business Institute - FAAP, brought international lawyer Ingeborg Schwenzer, emeritus professor at the University of Basel, Switzerland.

INTERNATIONAL ARBITRATION: A PRACTICAL ANALYSIS - RJ The second edition of the Event was held by Ibrachina and the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro - PUC-RJ, with the support of the Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo - PUC-SP. It brought Ingeborg Schwenzer and Joe Liu, Deputy SecretaryGeneral of the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre (HKIAC)-LLM to a high-level debate.

TAI CHI CHUAN WORKSHOPS - SP In partnership with the Tzong Kwan Cultural Center, Ibrachina promoted Tai Chi Chuan workshops in different locations in the capital of SĂŁo Paulo. The ancient Chinese technique favors relaxation and meditation, and is suitable for all ages. During the classes, the enrolled people had contact with exercises for joint stretching, tendon strengthening, breathing regulation and concentration stimulation.

TRIBUTE TO VICE-PRESIDENT GENERAL HAMILTON MOURÃO - DF The Brazil-China Parliamentary Front, the BRICS Parliamentary Front and Ibrachina held a dinner in honor of Vice-President General Hamilton Mourão. The Event took place at the Army Club in Brasilia. The action was a recognition of the Vice President’s performance during his visit to China, promoting the rapprochement between the two countries. Leaders from the Chinese community in Brazil were present, who handed him, together with Ibrachina, a plaque in recognition of his significant contribution to relations between Brazil and China. 22

ARBITRATION SEMINAR MACAU Macau was a colony of Portugal for over 400 years before becoming a special administrative region of the People’s Republic of China. As part of Ibrachina’s mission is to act in the regions of Lusophone language and influence, we participated in this event. On the occasion, Dr. Ettore Botteselli, Ibrachina’s international relations director, presented the lecture “Arbitration proceedings in China and Lusophony”.

MAJOR ELZA CANSANÇÃO MEDEIROS MEDAL LAUNCHING CEREMONY The councilman of the city of São Paulo, Amauri Silva, held a recognition ceremony for the Municipal Guard at the Noble Hall of the City Council. The president of Ibrachina was invited to hand over the medals to the honorees.

MANDARIN SCHOLARSHIPS - SP Promoting integration among peoples means overcoming language barriers. Ibrachina has made 20 Mandarin scholarships available to the community of the city of São Paulo. The process had more than 100 individuals registered and 02 days of interviews. The action has the partnership of the school Nin Hao.

OLODUM: BRAZIL’S DRUMS IN THE HEART OF CHINA - BA
Considered the most important Afro music group in Brazil, Olodum became one of Ibrachina’s great partners in 2019. Founded in Pelourinho, the historic center of Salvador, Bahia, on April 25, 1979, the samba-reggae group develops cultural and social activities linked to the preservation and expansion of black culture. Internationally recognized, the group participated in Paul Simon’s album The Rhythm of the Saints (1990). It recorded with artists like Jimmy Cliff, Caetano Veloso and Michael 28
Jackson. Now is the time for Brazil’s drums to be heard in the heart of China. In an event held in Salvador, Ibrachina and Olodum celebrated a partnership that adds a new chapter in the history of the group and the Institute. The cooperation put the group at the center of the Chinese New Year celebrations at FAAP, an event held in partnership with the FAAP Confucius Business Institute. The next step is to take the Bahia percussion group to show the Brazilian culture in China.

UNIDOS DE VILA MARIA: CHINESE DREAM IN CARNIVAL 2020 - SP Recognized for excellence in samba, respected for social projects. “A love affair” is the caring way the members of Unidos de Vila Maria refer to the School and explain their dedication. The integration between samba, one of the best known manifestations of Brazilianness, and social responsibility has made Unidos a natural Ibrachina partner. Unidos de Vila Maria was founded in the 1950s. It has won titles and great projection in these years of work. In 2020, “The Chinese Dream” will be the samba theme song in the parade that will be held in Sao Paulo - SP. 30
The definition of the theme is the result of the partnership with Ibrachina. The agreement between the Institute and the School includes presentations by Unidos de Vila Maria at other events, such as the celebration of the Chinese New Year in the Liberdade neighborhood of São Paulo. A team from the association traveled to Beijing to do research and begin to develop the visual identity for next year’s celebration. The trip included visits to historic sites and meetings with leaders of other cultural projects.

VISIT TO SHENZHEN CITY HALL Following the signing of a strategic cooperation agreement at an event held in Brazil, the Ibrachina delegation was received in Shenzhen City Hall by Deputy Mayor Wu Yihuan. The meeting tightened relations between the Institute and the city, one of China’s largest and most important cities. 32

VISIT TO ARTRON - SHENZHEN Ibrachina paid a visit to Artron, located in Shenzhen. The publisher is internationally known for publishing books by renowned artists from around the world, including Brazilian Oscar Niemeyer. The building houses a large library displaying the awardwinning publications as an art gallery.

VISIT TO TENCENT - SHENZHEN At the invitation of the Shenzhen City Hall, Ibrachina paid a visit to Tencent. The company is known as the Chinese Silicon Valley and is the fifth most valuable in the world. Among the digital innovations created by the company are the WeChat and Weixin platforms, which have more than 1 billion users worldwide. The giant also stands out in the area of online games and is responsible for big hits such as the League of Legends. 36

VISIT TO THE INTERNATIONAL ARTS DESIGN CENTER-SHENZHEN The Ibrachina delegation had the opportunity to visit the International Arts Design Center. The large space of about 90,000 m² is located in Shenzhen and acts as a large hub for the exchange of experiences among artists from around the world. The building symbolizes the importance of art and design for the city: around 11% of Shenzhen’s GDP comes from cultural activities largely stimulated by the streets.

Confucius makes clear the importance of democratizing access to culture for the development of the individual and society. We value the Brazilian and Chinese cultural manifestations, seeking to give greater visibility and reach to all who have interest. Culture involves art, gastronomy, dance, customs and traditions.

45 GASTRONOMY
CHINESE GASTRONOMY FESTIVAL IN BRAZIL - SP Ibrachina participated in the Chinese Gastronomy Festival, promoted by the Chinese Gastronomy Association of Brazil. The event brought together four chefs from the Xian province, the capital of China during the Chin, Han and Tangue dynasties, at the China Garden restaurant. They prepare an “imperial banquet” featuring a sequence of dishes served to the emperors. At the time, Thomas Law received a copy of the tombstone of unified China’s first Emperor Qin Shi Huang. PHILATELY
NATIONAL DAY OF CHINESE IMMIGRATION IN BRAZIL CELEBRATORY STAMP In partnership with the Post Office, Ibrachina has launched a stamp to celebrate the National Day of Chinese Immigration in Brazil. Celebrated on August 15, the date was set through House Bill (PLC) 42/2018, authored by Congressman Fausto Pinato, with rapporteur Senator Marta Suplicy. The law was sanctioned by the presidency of the republic in 2018. The stamp refers to the first official arrival of Chinese immigrants in São Paulo, in 1900 on the Vapor Malange vessel. 44

DEGUSTA SAMPA BY IBRACHINA - SP The first edition of Degusta Sampa took place at the Gourmet Space of the Municipal Market of São Paulo. The event held by Ibrachina brought Chinese cuisine to the heart of Mercadão. Guests had the opportunity to try traditional China Lake dishes prepared by chef Paulo Hu and more modern versions created by former MasterChef Brazil, Jiang Pu. 46

CHINESE NEW YEAR AT PAULISTA AVENUE - SP The Chinese New Year is already part of the imagination of the São Paulo community, but in 2019 it left Liberdade to gain space at Paulista Avenue, the heart of the city. In an unprecedented action, Ibrachina made a projection on the facade of Shopping Center 3, marking the celebrations of the Year of the Pig. Thousands of people who walk and live in São Paulo’s most popular avenue saw the animation full of symbols and images that mix various aspects of China: tradition, technology and beliefs.

nowing our history as Brazilians and Chinese is an important part of the process of understanding how we arrived at the present time. This understanding is the basis for building a stronger future, with sustainable development and respect for those who created the basis of coexistence between the peoples of Brazil and China. We promote this rescue as a legacy for future generations who may not have access to the ancient knowledge that Chinese immigrants brought to Brazil.

CHINESE IMMIGRATION IN BRAZIL MINI-DOCUMENTARY Ibrachina has produced a mini-documentary about Chinese immigration in Brazil. The project aims to rescue the history of the Chinese community in the country, making it accessible also to the Brazilian community. The video featured chef Paulo hu, Dr. Wong Chiu Ping and Shu Hsiang Shie, who shared the amazing stories of their families coming to Brazil..

CHINA: TRADITION AND MODERNITY - DF AND SP To celebrate China National Day, Ibrachina held the exhibition “China: Tradition and Modernity”. In partnership with the Center for Cultural and Business Integration of São Paulo - Cicesp and with the support of the Brazil/ China Parliamentary Front, the photo show was on display at the National Congress. From Brasilia, the exhibition went to the Conjunto Nacional at Paulista Avenue, in São Paulo, and was supported by FAAP Confucius Business Institute and Xinhua News agency. 56

BRAZIL/CHINA PARLIAMENTARY FRONT AND BRICS PARLIAMENTARY FRONT - SP POLITICAL RECOGNITION Civil society can perform many actions when organized. However, some changes can only be promoted through government action. These transformations need a broad look at the cultures of the people and companies involved to have legitimacy and efficiency. For this reason, Ibrachina was invited to participate in Parliamentary Fronts in the Municipal (SP) and Federal levels. Get to know this work.

Ibrachina joined the Brazil/China Parliamentary Front and the BRICS Parliamentary Front. Chaired by Congressman Fausto Pinato, the fronts aim to strengthen social, cultural and economic ties between the member countries. Ibrachina Chairman Thomas Law assumed the position of Advisory Board Member at a ceremony held at the National Congress.

PARLIAMENTARY FRONT OF POLITICAL AND CULTURAL COOPERATION BETWEEN BRAZIL, CHINA, KOREA AND JAPAN - SP Created by Councilor Soninha Francine with the support of Ibrachina, the Parliamentary Front of Political and Cultural Cooperation between Brazil, China, Korea and Japan was launched in the City Council. The project aims to strengthen relations between the bloc’s countries and promote cultural and political diversity in São Paulo. 66

CODE OF ETHICS - SP “Code of Ethics: Market and Cultural Practices in Brazil and China” was the theme of the lecture carried out by Ibrachina at IBMEC headquarters. Thomas Law and the other lecturers discussed differences and similarities in building codes of ethics in companies operating in Brazil and China.

BLOCKCHAIN AND CRYPTOCURRENCIES - SP “Cryptonomics & Blockchain Disruption: Market Update”, “The growth of Cryptocurrencies and what are ICOs? ”, and“ Cryptocurrency from a Business Perspective” were the topics addressed at the Ibrachina Event. DOING BUSINESS AND SETTLING DISPUTES WITH CHINA - SP Held at FIESP’s headquarters, the “Doing Business and Settling Disputes with China” Seminar brought together commercial dispute settlement specialists and entrepreneurs from Chinese companies. The Ibrachina initiative and the CIESP/FIESP Chamber of Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration promoted a debate on the best ways to settle commercial disputes with the Asian country.

BOOK “ATUALIDADES DO DIREITO EMPRESARIAL BRASILEIRO” (CURRENT TOPICS OF BRAZILIAN BUSINESS LAW) - SP Ibrachina and D’Plácido Publisher release the book “Atualidades do Direito Empresarial Brasileiro” by Professor Dr. Armando Luiz Rovai. The work brings all the fundamental points for the opening of a company, as well as for its management and fundraising in Brazil. 84

CHINA-BRAZIL AND CHINA-LATIN AMERICA CURRENT RELATIONS - SP With support from Ibrachina, the Latin American Integration Post-Graduation Program - PROLAM from the University of São Paulo - USP held the Seminar “China-Brazil and ChinaLatin America Current Relationships”. The event promoted the debate on cultural integration between the two countries with various authorities, such as the Chinese Consul-General in São Paulo, Dr. Chen Peijie.

IBRACHINA ARENA Ibrachina Arena is a FIFA standard sports, educational and entertainment venue located in the Mooca neighborhood. Conceived by the Brazil/China Sociocultural Institute - Ibrachina, the project promotes human development based on three pillars: sport, education and culture. Its 12,000 m2 are part of a modern multipurpose complex for sporting, social and cultural events. In a large and well located space, we offer the complete infrastructure for the practice of soccer, rental services in society, field, futsal and soccer school for children and youth.

ORLANDO CITY SOCCER We bring Brazilian and Chinese cultures closer through a passion of both peoples: soccer. We conducted a social project in partnership with the Orlando City Soccer Club where we offer youth sports activities at Ibrachina Arena, a soccer field located in Mooca. The project foresees the provision of Mandarin and English courses for young people, preparing them for an increasingly globalized world.

SOCCER & STUDIES – SP Ibrachina and Spirit of Football Brazil announced an unprecedented partnership to promote Soccer & Studies, a pioneering social project aimed at promoting human development. The initiative benefits young people in socially vulnerable situations through sports combined with studies.

BUSINESS BETWEEN PORTUGAL, BRAZIL AND CHINA: A PRACTICAL ANALYSIS Ibrachina and SRS Attorneys promoted the Seminar “Business between Portugal, Brazil and China: a Practical Analysis”, in Lisbon, Portugal. The event brought together representatives of Chinese companies and lawyers with experience in the Brazilian and Portuguese markets to analyze the opportunities, challenges and solutions for the commercial development of relations between the three countries. The Seminar was attended by the Honorable Ambassadors of Brazil and China to Portugal, respectively Mr. Luiz Alberto Figueiredo Machado and Mr. Cai Run.
