Regina Derzon Adjunct Professor of Accounting, Northern Virginia Community College Secretary of the Board; Elected to Board Fall of 2013. 1. In brief, what brought you to bluegrass music? I was born and raised in East Tennessee ... it was the music (in addition to Big Band Orchestras) I was raised around. 2. What are your personal goals as a director on the board? To help organize historical documents and set up a records system so future boards and members can have easy access to the minutes, resolutions, policies, etc. Also, to work on growing stronger ties among the various groups that make up this group -- members from all constituency groups, fans, board, staff, WOB partners, media ... 3. What are you doing to help the board achieve the current goals? Work! And stay on the board through my elected term! 4. What would you like to share with members that they might not know? This is a strong board with a lot of dedication. It is amazing the amount of time that most of us spend on IBMA matters. 5. What is your favorite bluegrass album and why? Lights of Home by Randy Barrett. This CD is one of my "go to" when I need a lift, or to cry, or to sing along with. He is a wonderful singer, songwriter and musician. He also has the ability to put together fabulous musicians on his recordings. 6. What is your advice to someone fresh to the bluegrass industry/what is your advice for a seasoned pro? Bluegrass folks are just about the nicest in the world. I've seen so much mentoring on all levels ... the music, events, governance, everything. Don't be afraid to ask folks for help ... everyone I've met are tremendously willing to go the extra distance to help folks new to the business.
