Warning... Incoming Whirlwinds

Susan M. Cappa, Editorial Coordinator

The last week of April was a whirlwind of activity — finishing the Register and having our Annual Board Meetings of the Trustees and the US Chapter. Historically we have met in person, but due to COVID restrictions, we are doing the virtual thing again. All of us have been vaccinated so that extra little layer of protection has helped ease our virus worries.

Elaborating on the meetings and how they affect the IARFC team and the Association, I will first allude to Trustee Chair Steve Bailey and US Chapter Board President Rick Stanzione as an activity overload sustained by a food coma. COVID-minded, we catered our lunches and dinners in and did not go out to restaurants. By Thursday, peanut butter and jelly was sounding way better.

What came out of the meetings and is being addressed by both leaders this month is a priority to expand IARFC membership. The IARFC “think tank” spent many discussion on how to attract members and make visible the benefits of the IARFC with its designations and accredited credential. Everyone needs to get on board and start recruiting. With a recruit-one-member strategy, we could double our membership. We hope all of you will adapt that mindset.

I did get an opportunity to participate in the IARFC National Financial Plan Competition. The finals were held on Thursday April 22 with the results on page 9. I got to play the fictional “wife” of the fictional “couple” that asks questions of the students teams. US Chapter Board President took the husband role. My job was to play the “emotional factor” while Rick asked the technical questions concerning their plan conclusions. It always is a fun experience.

By this time, we probably will be minus a staff person for awhile. Vicki Caplinger in Membership Services will have gone into labor and be the proud Mama of baby Nolan — thus taking maternity leave. I truly appreciate leadership that values family and supports the home office members as we go through the highs and lows of our lives. We come to work knowing the flexibility of combining work and home is a priority. It is a thriving corporate philosophy. All for now, the PB&J is waiting...
