Introduction Welcome to the second edition of The Way, the Truth & the Life Teacher’s Book 2. These form part of the series developed for 3 – 14 year olds. The Syllabus, Pupil’s and Teacher’s Books and CD ROM KS1 are based on the Catechism of the Catholic Church and the Religious Education Curriculum Directory for Catholic Schools published by the Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales. The great strength of this programme is its theological content linked in an imaginative way to 6-7 year olds today. Children will begin by reflecting on how God has chosen each one of them and then hear about God’s choice of Abraham, Moses and Daniel. This will be followed by the module on the Mystery of God, the Holy Trinity and the Mystery of the Incarnation. After Christmas, children will see a video of Jesus as a little boy and then learn about Mary and Joseph taking him to the Temple in Jerusalem. When Jesus grew up, he needed helpers so he chose disciples. He worked miracles to show his love especially for the sick and to reward them for their faith and trust in him. These miracles also helped people to understand that he was God. Children will study the Mass: how to participate in it and how it can help them. This leads to mystery of the death and resurrection of Jesus, the Ascension and Pentecost. The final section focuses on the first Christians and how the Holy Spirit was able to work through them and can now help us. I trust that all who use this Teacher’s Book, Pupil’s Book, CD ROM KS1 and the supporting website www.tere.org, will be helped in a clear and direct way in the important task of enabling children to learn about the Catholic faith and to respond to its invitation with growing faith and generosity.
