S.O.S Rehab

ZOYA REHMAN The site chosen is located on the outskirts of the city, Al Ain - UAE. It is in middle of the road that leads to the border of Alain and the neighboring country Oman and is approximately 12 km away from the border that meets with Oman.

ZOYA REHMAN The aim of the project will be to provide a comfortable and patient friendly environment for treatment and rehabilitation facilities, which means using the potential of architecture to enhance the experience of space and helps the patients to reintegrate back to the society. To create a space with meaning, that would help the patients to build their lost social behavior back.

ZOYA REHMAN The shape of the rehab roughly reflected the site it was built own. The site was in the middle of a dessert with flat land and edgy rocks everwhere. The Rehab was shaped accordingly so that it blends in with its surroundings and doesn't look an odd object on the site. The color and the materials chosen for the rehab were made sure to give a soothing effect to patients inside it.

ZOYA REHMAN The form of the museum is shaped around the internal labyrinth that fills the entire building.Some parts of the musuem have a small subtraction in them thus creating a niche for trees or people to sit in. The materiality of the building was to concrete tiles to give out smooth crisp vibes.

ZOYA REHMAN The form of the building was developed from the university logo itself. Since the student centre was a part of the university and the would be a main area for student's to visit, it was the right choice to build a structure that would represent that it belonged to the university. Thus the logo was chosen.

Sustainable City

ZOYA REHMAN The concept is inspired from Iranian tradition housing in Yazd city. Each house has an inner courtyard with water feature, using evaporation cooling techniques. Since the Arabian culture commonly has the join family system so this concept allows privacy for all families yet gives them public courtyards that are open.

ZOYA REHMAN The houses in the city were built in the same manner. Four different units built similarly would be placed around a central courtyard. A courtyard would create a sense of privacy as well as a feeling or merging with the fellow neighbours.

Ecological & Cultural Hub

ZOYA REHMAN The project was to create a 'Cultural & Ecological Hub' and I had to keep in mind my site would be visited frequently by a large number of public since it is a hub where people come in a socialize, educate themselves as well as well as enjoy themselves. Keeping in mind the needs of the people of Alain, I created my programme and generated my areas accordingly and then gave a shape to my site.

ZOYA REHMAN The concept for of my urban hub was to create a corridor for the people to walk through and enjoy the entire site while on feet. Since vehicular paths are outside my site and cars are not allowed inside, people have to walk in order to get from one side to other and to achieve that I made a middle corridor that transports the public from one corner of the site to the other.
