IZHEVSK AIRPORT HISTORY
I
n the 30th years the airfield was built in the village Pirogovo, Udmurt republic. From the Great Patriotic War beginning the Izhevsk crews were sent to the front. On service of planes there were 5 people who made basis of future airport Izhevsk wich was organized by order №104 of the chief the Main Department of Civil Air fleet from 30.05.1994. With aircraft development in the country the Izhevsk
airport changed the shape. Pilots from Udmurtia participated in all spheres of life of the country. They often were heroes of situations which became history. So, in 1961 during search and rescue works in difficult meteoconditions pilot L.K.Okkelman found a dog Zvezdochka in the lander of spaceship “Vostok” in its test flight. This flight preceded space launch of Yury Gagarin. Fast paces of development of economy of Udmurtia promoted construction and commissioning of the new airport in 1974. It allowed to serve domestic and foreign planes. At present JSC “Izhavia” includes: 14 aircrafts (Yakovlev-42D, Tupolev-134A-3M, Antonov24RV, Antonov-26-100); more than 100 specialists of flight service; more than 100 workers of aerotechnical base; about 500 employees of airport ervices; about 175 thousand transported passengers a year. 78
