How should a breast self-exam be performed? 1) In the Shower Using the pads of your fingers, move around your entire breast in a circular pattern moving from the outside to the center, checking the entire breast and armpit area. Check both breasts each month feeling for any lump, thickening, or hardened knot. Notice any changes and get lumps evaluated by your healthcare provider. 2) In Front of a Mirror Visually inspect your breasts with your arms at your sides. Next, raise your arms high overhead. Look for any changes in the contour, any swelling, or dimpling of the skin, or changes in the nipples. Next, rest your palms on your hips and press firmly to flex your chest muscles. Left and right breasts will not exactly match—few women's breasts do, so look for any dimpling, puckering, or changes, particularly on one side. 3) Lying Down When lying down, the breast tissue spreads out evenly along the chest wall. Place a pillow under your right shoulder and your right arm behind your head. Using your left hand, move the pads of your fingers around your right breast gently in small circular motions covering the entire breast area and armpit. Use light, medium, and firm pressure. Squeeze the nipple; check for discharge and lumps. Repeat these steps for your left breast. Can I rely on breast self-exams alone to be sure I am breast cancer free? Mammography can detect tumors before they can be felt, so screening is key for early detection. But when combined with regular medical care and appropriate guideline-recommended mammography, breast self-exams can help women know what is normal for them so they can report any changes to their healthcare provider. If you find a lump, schedule an appointment with your doctor, but don't panic — 8 out of 10 lumps are not cancerous. For additional peace of mind, call your doctor whenever you have concerns.

What Can I Do To Reduce My Risk of Breast Cancer? Although you cannot prevent cancer, some habits that can help reduce your risk are: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5.

Maintain a healthy weight Stay physically active Eat fruits and vegetables Do not smoke Limit alcohol consumption

At each event as these breast cancer survivors took to the stage, a short narration of their life struggles and journey fighting breast cancer was read to the attendees of these events.

Fit For A Cure Oct is Breast Cancer Awareness month and Dillard’s is hosting free bra fitting events at several Cleveland area Dillard's stores from Oct. 15 through 17. The event, called Fit For The Cure, provides complimentary bra fittings by Dillard’s fit specialist. For every woman who participates, Dillard’s will donate $2 to Susan G. Komen for breast cancer research and community health programs. Dillard’s will also donate an additional $2 for every bra, shapewear item or b.tempt'd bra purchased at any of the local events. During October, Dillard’s will also donate $2 to Susan G. Komen for any item purchased from the Dillard’s Embrace Lace collection. Customers will receive a free gift with the purchase of at least $80 from the Embrace Lace collection. Dillard’s estimates that eight out of 10 women are wearing the wrong bra size. It says that women should have an expert fitting at least once a year as bra size fluctuates with our changing bodies. So take 15 minutes, meet with an expert and support an important cause. It's also crucial to conduct monthly breast exams. Self-examination is a great way to detect abnormalities at an early stage.

One of the most emotionally devastating concerns we hear about from our members is thinning hair and hair loss. At I Am Beautiful Women’s Foundation, we understand that a woman’s head of hair is her crowning glory — and losing too much hair can be a serious and frightening blow to her selfesteem. Reacting so strongly to the physical state of your hair may seem like vanity, but it’s not. Your hair is one of the first areas, along with skin and nails, to manifest signs of hormonal imbalance, poor nutrition, or illness. Understanding how hair regenerates and paying attention to any changes in your hair growth and appearance are important parts of taking care of yourself.

“I’m A Survivor” is a breast cancer benefit we do in conjunction with our Pretty-n-Pink fashion shows.

Before each event all the breast cancer survivors came in to Dillard’s days before the event to get their face chart for their make-up, fitting for their dresses, accessories and shoes.

The Dillard’s staff at each store was warm hearted and professional to all the breast cancer survivors. Each survivor expressed their appreciation for the way they was treated by the staff at each Dillard’s The Asheville event was support by cosmetology students from Asheville High School Cosmetology Department. These young students came in with the guidance of Angela Crawford and their Instructor Trina Jackson and put the finishing touches on these beautiful ladies. A special thank you goes out to Dillard’s, all participating stores, staff and all others who supported our breast cancer survivors and making them feel not forgotten and appreciated.

Our Asheville event signified not only our Pretty-n-Pink event but it was the launch of the nations very first “Parade of Ribbons event, where we honor not only breast cancer survivors but survivors of all diseases. As shown here our first male model and kidney disease 12 year survivor Mr. Richard Townsend.
