n the eyes of a dedicated hardcore gamer there’s no compromise, and winning can come at whatever cost. Obviously, though, not everybody plays games this way. After all, there’s a reason we can casually dismiss things as “just being a game”. The market is shifting, though. Casual gamers are being targeted as people who are new to gaming, and want a bit of digital fun that fits in with their lifestyle.

The Nintendo Wii, PlayStation Move and Xbox Kinect are all aimed at casual gamers, but many hardcore gamers will also dabble in the dark arts of movement-based gaming. It’s difficult to draw distinct lines. Instead, there are different kinds of hardcore gamers and casual gamers. Let’s redefine some of those boundaries.
