nutritional products

The company Hydro Fert srl is a dynamic manufacturing company for the production and sales of fertilizers. Established in 2002 thanks to the expertise of its founding partners Riccardo Salerno and Mario Frisardi, Hydro Fert srl directly produces liquid and powder fertilizers, saline correctors, organic and mineral fertilizers and growth promoters. With the support of a young and efficient staff Hydro Fert srl is ready to fulfil the requirements of the farmers, rendering technical assistance and supplying the necessary know-how for the most varied fertilizing needs of cultivation. Hydro Fert srl avail itself of the most advanced technologies, providing solutions and innovative products in order to meet the client’s needs and contributing to the increase of quantity, quality and profitability rates of agricultural productions.

R&S Department R&S Department is involved in a constant activity of implementation and update of Hydro Fert products set, staying in line with market and client’s needs. Hydro Fert products are

registered and then put on the market only after many different laboratory and field trials, performed in cooperation with public and private research authorities. A strong partnership with the ‘Agricultural science and technology Department in the University of Bari’ has led to a deep study of growth promoters and of soil organic matters. Consequent developments have helped the creation of new fertilizers of high technological content. R&S Department produces innovations that are at the same time economical, effective and environmentally sustainable. We strongly believe that economic and environmental sustainability in agricultural processes is a fundamental principle not to be left out of consideration for a fair development. Nowadays, many data on the trends of world population growth, also supported by bodies such as ‘U.N.’, evaluate an increase up to 9 Billion people by 2040. In these conditions, only a sustainable production of food will make it possible to feed the next generations without compromising the ecosystem we are living in.

Mission and Vision Hydro Fert srl invests and grows to the end of a sustainable development, following the guidelines from the World Conservation Union, UN Environment Programme and World Wide Fund for Nature: “Sustainable development represents an improvement in the quality of life, without exceeding the carrying capacity of the supporting ecosystems it depends on”. Such an eco-centric vision of the sustainability can be considered the foundation of the Hydro Fert Vision. The human-made agricultural eco-system should be considered a supporting system to be maintained balanced and available for future generations. To this end, Hydro Fert srl supports the idea of an integrated and responsible fertilizing process, combining innovative organic formulations of a high know-how with mineral fertilizers. The main objective is to operate in an agricultural field willing to grow and develop “in harmony with nature”.

Growth Promoters

“the first step toward the overall quality and environmental sustainability in productions” An ever-increasing demand for food and high-quality agricultural products is leading us to the use of sustainable and innovative cultivation methods, along with a more responsible use of the non-renewable environmental resources. Hydro Fert srl has been progressing to meet such requirements, acting more and more toward the production of commercial formulations together sustainable and innovative. The growth promoters and biostimulants represent an excellent example of such products, combining agricultural tradition, innovation and environmental sustainability. The Italian legislation on fertilizers D.lgs 75/2010, following the European Rules on manures (EC regulation 2003/2003) has precisely defined the growth promoters, or biostimulants: “A fertilizer is considered as bio stimulant when it is able to positively contribute to the improvement of nutrition and the development of vegetal species, independently from the presence of nutrients”. Growth promoters contribute to plants nutrition, acting on their development differently from the normal process made by the fertilizing elements. Biostimulants, or growth promoters, are non-fertilizing and non-polluting products, natural organic substances able to improve metabolism, growth, health, yield and quality of plants (Berlyn and Sivaramakrishnan, 1996; Zhang and Schmidt, 1999). Their role include also enhancing the capacity of absorption of the nutrients released by the fertilizer (Frankenberger and Arshad, 1995), so as to change the structure of the roots by boosting its development and making it ready for a major absorption of nutrients.

10

Growth promoters interfere with the plants hormone system and are useful to control many different physiological processes such as rooting, germination, flowering, fructification and reactions to biotic and abiotic stresses. Therefore, the presence of biostimulants in a fertilizing calendar permits a reduction of the nutrients to be supplied to the cultivation. Accordingly, a smaller use of fertilizers entails a cost reduction along with a reduction of environmental pollution risk. Growth promoters are divided into 3 main categories: 1) Humic Substances (H.S.), extracted from lignified cell walls and acting like Cytokinins and Auxins (O’Donnell 1973; Sanderson and Jameson 1986); 2) Marine Algae Extracts (M.A.E.), of which the Aschophyllum Nodosum L. is the most used in agriculture, containing chemical elements which influence the plant growth such as Cytokinins and Auxins (Crouch and Van Staden 1993); 3) Hydrolyzed Animal Protein (A.P.H.), present in substances of animal origin (epithelium, hair, blood) and developing a series of organic nitrogen-based compounds well-known as amino acids (monopeptides) with different molecular weight (Polo 2006). A deep knowledge of the fertilizing products for one’s own cultivation represents the first step toward the achievement of the products global quality and the environmental sustainability in productions. Hydro Fert srl keeps its clients informed about the potentialities of growth promoters in order to make such quality and sustainability become shared values, more a consumer’s need rather than a simple trend.

Resistance inductors

Resistance inductors

Although pesticides have not been unconditionally banned for the plants safeguard yet, many studies are trying to limit and reduce their application. Some innovative control methods could represent a sustainable choice of development, based on the improvement of resistance and biological balance against the main diseases and phytophagous insects. National and foreign scientific researches prove that foliar and root application of specific fertilizers, biostimulants and microbiological agents produce some resistance actions in the plants. Such mechanisms allow them to fight stress conditions avoiding falls in price and saleable production’s losses. “A well-nourished plant is a healthier one”. Besides, plants are able to recognize the pathogenic attacks through chemotaxis. The identification of a pathogenic or-

22

ganism by a plant includes a wide range of defence reactions, such as the production of antimicrobial compounds able to limit the pathogenic damages. Therefore, a fertilizer stimulating the metabolic pathway for the synthesis of antimicrobial substances can improve the natural resistance mechanisms against such pathogenic attacks. To this end, Hydro Fert srl has created a line of fertilizers included in the “Resistance Inductors” category, able to increase the plants natural defences and to make them better respond to external pathogenic attacks. So as improving at the same time the defence system and the resistance against pathogens.

Characteristics: Bio Heal is a very special product, not only because it is rich of humic acids, but also because of the presence of the Trichoderma harzianum 107 and the 5% of seaweeds extracts. Trichoderma harzianum is a natural antagonist of pathogen fungi in the soil, such as Phythium, Phytophthora, Rhizoctonia, Fusarium and also other fungi responsible of the radical rot. It also reduces the development of toxic compounds that prevent the radical apparatus growth. The union of all these substances guarantees a series of advantages, like: • elimination of pathogen fungi in the soil • increase of the plants resistance to the sudden changes of temperature and to stress and illnesses • increase of the radical apparatus growth • stimulus and growth of other micro-organisms useful around the zone explored by roots • increase of the seeds germination and bedding plants growth • reduce of soil salinity • increase of the cationic exchange capacity • higher absorbency of nutritional elements

Characteristics: Fos line is a new family of fluid fertilizers of high quality, born to satisfy the nutritional exigencies of all cultivations. The peculiarity of these fertilizers is the presence of phosphorus in the form of phosphite ion. The phosphite ion has got both ascending and descending systemic activity, it rapidly enters into the vegetative tissues and shows both nutritive and protective properties at the same time. The phosphite ion stimulates a higher production of phytoalexins (antimicrobial substances) in the plant, that permit an organic induced protection.

Characteristics: Root Guard is a product with a high content of technological innovation, combining nutritional and growth promoting elements with the presence of the “Tricodherma Harzianum soil fungus from rhizosphere. Many experimental applications have proved that this fungus is able to establish a mutual connection with the plant and to limit the growth of pathogens through hyperparasitism. The application of Root Guard allows roots growing healthier and more vigorous. Root Guard can be applied in any period of the year provided that the soil temperature is not too low. Spring and autumn application are favoured, since the root development is at its best phase. The nutritional part of Root Guard (composed by amino acids, humic acids and seaweeds) provides a bio stimulant effect that leads together to a root development and a better absorption of all nutrients. A balance is therefore created between vegetative and root development.

Lack of macroNUTRIENTs In modern agriculture it is essential to use all the means necessary to obtain the best from our crops. One of them is undoubtedly the fertilization, that has a particular role in the development of the bio-chemical functions of the plants.. NITROGEN - It is a fundamental element in the plants development: it guarantees the quality and the quantity results, being the component of proteins, nucleic acids and chlorophyll. Its lack mainly causes chlorosis, nanism of the leaves, poor vegetative and root development, shortening of the internodes, reduced production (because of poor fruit set and growth), bad fruit ripening, decrease of sugars, and more sensitivity to some pathophysiologies (bitter pitting, inflammation, vitrescence, etc.), during the storage. Its excess causes a late ripening, a lower productivity – caused by a nutritional competition between the buds and the fruits – and a decrease of the potassium absorption. PHOSPHORUS - It takes part in the composition of enzymes, proteins and other elements; moreover, it is essential for the respiration, the transformation of the nitrates absorbed by the roots, the glucides metabolism, etc. Phosphorus has an important role in the differentiation of the buds, in the fruit set and the fruit ripening, of which it mostly influences the organoleptic characteristics (perfume, fragrance, storability, etc.). In case of phosphorus shortage, we can notice delays in the growth, low lignification with the consequent increase of the cold sensitivity, lower fruit set, delays in the ripening and decrease of the sugar content. In case of excess, instead, we can see some negative effects on the absorption of the trace elements, such as iron, zinc, boron, etc. PotassiUM - It has a relevant role in the metabolism of the sugars and the proteins, carrying out several enzymatic and catalytic activities. It regulates the content of sugar in the fruits, decreasing their acidity through acids saturation and increasing the content of glucose. Potassium finally has a relevant influence on lignification. Its lack generally causes disor-

ders in the proteic synthesis, with consequent slackening of the ripening, desiccation of the leaves edges and the vegetative tops, production of colourless and small fruits, which are difficult to preserve. The lack of potassium also prevents the branches lignifications, which causes a lower resistance to cold. CalciUM - It has got a fundamental function in the process of neutralization of the organic acids. Calcium takes place in the metabolism, regulating the colloidal state of the protoplasm and acting – in clear contrast with potassium – on the processes that regulate the transpiration and the water balance. It also influences the contraction of the plasma and decreases the water absorption. Calcium is essential for the cells division; it is absorbed as an enzymatic constituent, the maltase. It is important for the growth of the meristems and during the pollen formation it is required in huge quantities by the plant. Its lack causes a reduction of the meristems growth, a delay in the development of the young leaves, which appear distorted and chlorotic and then they necrotize on the edges, while an excess of calcium causes the iron chlorosis. MagnesiUM - It is a fundamental component of the chlorophyll and it has a relevant importance in the vegetative development of the plants. Magnesium takes part into: the absorption of nitrogen, the chlorophyll photosynthesis, the formation of pectins and carotenoids. It probably activates the phosphatic enzymes, necessary to the synthesis of products containing metabolic energy. The lack of magnesium may be caused by an excess of K or Ca and it is revealed by the appearance of a chlorotic area on the venation of the older leaves, which later on necrotize, causing an anticipated leaf drop.

Characteristics: HYDRO CAL MG is a liquid product with a high concentration of free amino acids and oligopeptides, in which calcium and magnesium form a complex with the organic fraction. This complexation allows the mineral fraction to be available in the form of solution, i.e. the metabolic form that is commonly used by plants; in fertigation, it protects the mineral fraction from insolubilizations and retrogradations (in reasonable pH levels); in foliar treatments, it helps the cuticular penetration, thanks to the transmitting properties of the amino acids. Amino acids, oligopeptides and polypeptides are essential for the process of transmission of the mineral fraction into the cells and even to the utilization sites, helping it in overcoming the chemical physical barriers of leaf cuticle, cell wall and lymphatic system. HYDRO CAL MG has been conceived to contrast plant diseases that are caused by calcium deficiency (apical rot in tomatoes, dried leaves in cucumber and so on) or by magnesium deficiency (dryness of grape rachis, choloris of basal leaves in horticulture and fruit culture).

Characteristics: HYDRO GOLD SUPER is a completely water-soluble formulation, which is obtained from the hydrolysis of high-quality organic substances. Given the high content of amino acids, oligopeptides, peptides with a low or medium molecular weight, this product is at the top between the protein organic fertilizers. In foliar treatment, it is easily absorbed through the cuticle and carried to the metabolic active sites where the synthesis of enzymes, proteins, plant regulators and carbohydrates takes place. In fertigation, the protein fraction is useful for a slow release of the stock of organic nitrogen, that positively influences chemical and physical organic soil properties. In general, HYDRO GOLD SUPER leads to better yields, greater sprouting, size, organoleptic properties and quality of fruits. In case of stress, if the plants are weakened by frosts, hails or root asphyxia, HYDRO GOLD SUPER speeds their recovery.

The formulation of MICRAP CALCIO guarantees the mobility and circulation of calcium, thanks to its content of: rapidly assimilable free amino acids, humic acids, betaines, carbohydrates, vitamins and many other components, useful for the plant metabolism. Calcium has a fundamental function in neutralizing organic acids; it also takes part in the metabolism, regulating the colloidal state of the protoplasm, acting – in contrast with potassium – on the processes that regulate transpiration and water balance, favouring plasm contraction and decreasing water absorbency. It is essential for cells division; it enters as an enzyme constituent, the maltase; it is important for the growing of meristems and it is required in great quantities by the plant during the formation of pollen. A lack of calcium may cause a decrease of the meristems growth, a delay in the young leaves development, that may appear deformed and chlorotic and then necrotize on the edges.

micronutrients nutritional products

45

Micronutrients: functions and deficiencies Micronutrients have a very proved and indisputable importance, although their presence is not so sizable in chemical composition of vegetal tissues. The academic community has unequivocally proved the actual necessity of micronutrients in the plant’s productive processes. The most important reactions of vegetal biochemistry depend on the presence of micronutrients, from chlorophyll photosynthesis to protein and hormone synthesis. One of these deficiencies can cause serious nutritional diseases that compromise the plant’s biological cycle and fructification, so as preventing good harvests.

SULPHUR - It’s a nutrient of great importance, because it constitutes some amino acids (cystine, cysteine, methionine); it is essential for the formation of the co-enzyme “a” and it takes part into the oxidereductive processes in the cells. The lack of sulphur causes the yellowing of the leaves. Sulphur has got a relevant role when used together with nitrogen and phosphorus. With nitrogen, sulphur induces to a better use of the anions. The need of sulphur is the same as the need of phosphorus, but, instead of this last one, it is very soluble and so it is rain-washed. IRON - It is one of the most important micronutrients. It forms the iron-porphyritic structures, which control the synthesis of several organic substances, such as chlorophyll. Iron reduces the nitrates in aminic groups, that are fundamental for the proteic synthesis; and takes part into the biological synthesis of cytochromes and enzymes. The lack of iron is caused by a high content of active limestone in the soil and leads to an evident chlorosis of the leaves interveinal area. The plants that are more sensitive to its lack are quince, vitis riparia, peach and chestnut. The ones that are instead more resistant are almond, cherry, apricot, vitis berlandieri, pear, olive and citrus. The iron chlorosis can get worse if there’s an excess of P, Zn, Mn, humidity and a low porosity of the soil. Manganese - It has catalytic functions in the photosynthesis and breathing. It forms some co-enzymes of the glucidic, lipidic and proteic metabolism. Manganese has a relevant influence on fruits, of which it increases the organoleptic quality. Combined with an alkali soil, its lack may cause an interveinal chlorosis of the leaves.

Boron - It is essential in: the processes of plant growth, the floral biology (flower induction, pollen germination and fruit set), the synthesis and accumulation of sugar. Combined with a lack of water and an anomalous pH in the soil, the lack of boron causes a decrease of the chlorophyll “a”, with a consequent reduction of glucides, amino acids, phospholipids, phosphoproteins and RNA. It also leads to a rise of the organic acids and it stops the formation of ATP. This interruption gives rise to: stagnation of glucides in the dead leaves and vegetative apexes, shortening of the internodes and meagre production of flowers through pouring. The lack of boron may also cause malformations and rustiness of fruits (mainly on apple) and it can lead to a necrosis of the phloem in olive trees. MOLYBDENUM - It constitutes the enzyme nitrate reductase, which influences the use of the atmospheric nitrogen and interferes in the process of reduction of the nitrates in the cells. A lack of molybdenum appears in interveinal chlorotic spots, burns on the leaf edges, or the rolling of the leaves. Zinc - It is a component of many enzymatic complexes, that control the metabolism of the carbohydrates, the proteic and auxinic synthesis and intervene in the formation of the structure of the cell membrane (essential for the permeability). A lack of zinc causes: shortening of the internodes; smaller and chlorotic leaves; smaller, deformed and early-drop fruits; abnormalities in the cells; a lower number of chloroplasts.

Characteristics: HUMIC FERRO 6 is the result of many years of research, made to create an iron humate fertilizer, that is also an environmentally-friendly completely water-soluble product. It contains 40% of humic acids and 6% of iron complex, with a stable pH (6-11). It can be used to prevent or treat iron deficiency in both leaf and root treatments. Thanks to the presence of humic acids, it also improves plant growth, health and stress resistance. Its use provides the following advantages: supply of iron and humic acids at the same time, great effectiveness with alkaline soils, high permeability of cell membranes and enhanced root absorption of nutrients. In alkaline soils, it constitutes a natural chelating agent, because it increases the availability of blocked micro-nutrients. HUMIC FERRO 6 can be mixed with NPK, MAP, DAP fertilizers or with urea. This product has to be applied with a certain advance, because it takes more time to be active in the soil, but it has a more persistent and long-lasting action. HUMIC FERRO 6 is fully stable at light and UV rays.

Containing a balanced mix of the most important micronutrients, MICRAP MICRO MIX can be used to prevent and treat the nutritional problems that are caused by micronutrients deficiencies. The importance of the micronutrients depends on their absolute specificity in the physiological and biochemical functions of the plant. Iron, copper and molybdenum are essential for the photo-synthesis; boron and zinc stimulate the sprouting and the regeneration of young tissues; magnesium and manganese act as catalyst elements in many enzymatic processes; cobalt (that is also present in B12 vitamin) is credited for its positive influence on the plants growth. The balanced take-up of trace elements gives to the soil an optimal level of nutrition, creating a synergic effect. MICRAP MICRO MIX is a completely new synthetic product that can be also used in foliar treatments. Micronutrients are stable at a pH interval of 4-7.5.

Characteristics: AZOTO 30 is a liquid fertilizer, containing ammonic nitrate and urea, suitable for the fertigation of all herbaceous and arboreous cultivations, that require high quantities of nitrogen. The balanced presence of the three nitrogen forms (nitric, ammoniacal, ureic) guarantees to the product a gradual and long-lasting action. Nitrogen is in fact the fundamental plastic element that supports the cells multiplication and the chlorophyll photosynthesis. The larger absorption of nitrogen by the plant occurs in the period of vegetative growth.

Characteristics: Containing a very high percentage of calcium, CALCIO BASE is essential in the process of neutralization of the organic acids. Acting on the metabolism, it controls the colloidal state in the protoplasm. In contrast with potassium, it regulates the processes of transpiration and water balance, it encourages the concentration of the plasma and reduces the absorption of water. CALCIO BASE is essential for the cells division; it is a constituent of an enzyme, the maltase. It is relevant for the growth of the meristems and it is required by the plants in huge quantities during the formation of the pollen. Its lack reduces the growth of meristems, a delay in the development of the young leaves, that appear deformed and chlorotic and then they necrotize on the edges.

Characteristics: Hydro mix is a product for preventing and treating nutritional imbalances due to Magnesium and other microelements’ deficiencies. It contains a balanced amount of the most important and useful microelements for the plant. The importance of microelements depends on their utter peculiarity for the physiological and biochemical functions of the plant. Iron, Copper, and Molybdenum play an essential role in the photosynthetic process; Boron and Zinc stimulate the fruit setting and the production of young tissues; Magnesium and Manganese function as catalysing agents of many enzymatic processes. The balanced supply of microelements promotes the best nutritional condition for the soil. Besides, it avoids together the desiccation of vine rachis and the early leaf drop for apple trees. The presence of all the elements gives rise to events of positive interaction (synergism). The application for fertigation can be done alternatively at the regrowth of vegetation, in blossoming, after fruit setting or in case of proved microelements diseases. If necessary, a second application of the recommended doses is provided.

Characteristics: HYDROSAL CA is a liquid soluble product with calcium, that is complexed with polyhydroxy-carboxylic acids and used in root application. The product has been conceived to contrast the side effects of the excess of sodium in the soil and in the irrigation water. Thanks to the ion exchange, calcium takes the place of sodium (providing calcium to the soil and neutralizing sodium), in order to obtain a better flocculation and salt leaching in soil. It also improves the structure of the soil, increasing its permeability and porosity by draining the salts from the root system, with a consequent benefit for the plant. The polyhydroxy-carboxylic acids promote the mobility of calcium in the soil, providing a long-lasting action and reducing electrical conductivity. Both in acid and alkali soils, HYDROSAL CA softly alters the pH and speeds the absorption of fertilizers, working as an amendment on calcium deficiency. HYDROSAL CA can be applied to all kinds of crops (tomato, pepper, lettuce, celery, cabbage, strawberry, apple, etc.), even if they are particularly sensitive to calcium deficiency. It can be used to prevent, but also to treat, calcium deficiency. It improves soil water retention and promotes root development.

Characteristics: Nutri cal mg is a liquid fertilizer, produced with raw materials of very high quality, rich in calcium and magnesium. Calcium has a fundamental function in the neutralization of organic acids. It also takes part in the metabolism, regulating the colloidal state of protoplasm. In contrast with potassium, it acts in the processes that regulate transpiration and water balance, improving plasma contraction and diminishing water absorbency. NUTRI CAL MG is fundamental for cellular division; it is a constituent of an enzyme, maltase; it’s important for meristems growth and it is strongly required by the plant during pollen formation. Magnesium lack causes reduction in meristems growth, delay in the young leaves development, that become deformed and chlorotic and then necrotize on the margins. Magnesium is instead a fundamental component of chlorophyll and has a great relevance in the vegetative and productive development of plants. It also takes part in the nitrogen absorption, in the photosynthesis and in the formation of pectins and carotenoids.

Characteristics: The Power Land line products are Controlled Release Fertilizers – CFR: the Nitrogen contained is released to the circulating solution through a biodegradable polymeric membrane. Indeed, the resin membrane wrapping the Nitrogen manages the release for 2-3 months; thus the Nitrogen release is not influenced either by pH or by soil bacterial load. The Nitrogen availability increases along with the membrane degradation and the presence of the humidity in the soil, reaching the maximum level when the cultivation requires more nutrients. Power Land guarantees an improvement of the Nitrogen usage efficiency and, at the same time, it allows the reduction of fertilizing operations in the phase of full vegetative growth. If applied before transplanting or previous to the phase of full vegetative growth, and in any case before scuffling operations, it permits to minimize the number of maintenance fertilizing operations. Besides, during the whole cultivation cycle, it guarantees the nutrition quality level needed by the plants, avoiding dangerous deficiencies as well as useless wastes. Power Land line fertilizers are of a low chlorine rate with Potassium sulphate, Magnesium and microelements, particularly suitable

Characteristics: HYDRO ACID PH is a solution based on the compound NP (nitrogen and phosphorus) that can serve as a source of these two essential macronutrients. At the same time, this product has been conceived for the application of phytosanitary products, when we use low-quality water in foliar treatments (high pH, water hardness, etc.). Avoiding the negative effects of low-quality water on the efficiency of phytosanitary products, HYDRO ACID PH helps phytosanitary products to enter into the plants, reducing the surface tension of the solutions that has to be sprayed. The balanced formulation of nutrients in this product creates a solution that regulates the pH in the tank of the atomizer. Regardless of the quality of water, HYDRO ACID PH ensures the excellent efficiency of treatments.
