FEDERAL APPEALS COURT UPHOLDS RULING ON PEACE CROSS

PGCPS ART SHOW MOVED FROM MALL AT PRINCE GEORGES

In February, the Prince George’s County Council launched a weekly e-newsletter called “Council Connections.” According to the council’s website, the e-newsletter is an effort to heighten public awareness and civic engagement. The e-newsletter will provide subscribers with an overview of council actions, initiatives and events. “Council Connections” highlights the council‘s weekly activities, and provides important links to upcoming meetings and events posted to the council website, pgccouncil.us. In a press release, Council Chair Dannielle Glaros (D) - District 3, said the council’s e-newsletter should prove a useful tool for residents. “Beyond a summary of our work during the week, we include links that lead readers to additional information that may be of interest. Council sessions, standing committee meetings, briefings and community meetings are also highlighted. I want to encourage residents to subscribe and get a closer look at how we are working together to strengthen our communities.” To access the e-newsletter, visit pgccouncil.us/9/News.

The Prince George’s County Public Schools (PGCPS) annual art show almost didn’t happen this year. Construction at The Mall at Prince Georges, the event’s usual venue, moved the event to the Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center Grand Pavilion. According to an art teacher at Edward M. Felegy Elementary School, the show came together quickly. The countywide art show was also split into two events this year. The PGCPS North County Art Exhibit was held Feb. 26 to March 1 — a much shorter time frame than the usual event — and featured artwork from students in pre-K to 12th grade from Districts 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6. There was a reception for students and parents on Feb. 28. The submitted pieces were chosen by teachers at the individual schools.
