Message from the Mayor
As the days are getting colder, there’s still a lot going on this month across our city, including several days, weeks, and months of significance, such as Te Marama Puoro o Aotearoa (NZ Music Month).
NZ Music Month will see a number of music events in the Hutt, and I’m particularly excited about the ukelele flashmob! It’s one of the biggest months in the national cultural calendar, so be sure to make the most of the local events in our city.
Pink Shirt Day is also coming up in May, which is about working together to stop bullying by celebrating diversity and promoting kindness and inclusiveness. There are a few events at the Naenae Neighbourhood Hub so read on to find out more. I look forward to donning my bright pink shirt later this month!

We also have Vaiaso o le Gagana Samoa (Samoan Language Week) at the end of May and early June, so be sure to pop into the Wainuiomata Neighbourhood Hub to see what’s going on.
Lastly, it’s also NZ Sign Language Week in the second week of May so it’s a good chance to learn a couple of new words or phrases. One of the things I’m most proud of in the last month is having a sign language interpreter at our ANZAC Day service. I had a couple of people come up to me after the service saying how much it meant to them to be able to fully participate in the service with having an interpreter there. A good reminder that sometimes it’s the little things that can make the biggest difference.
I look forward to seeing you out and about this month!
Mayor Campbell Barry
