Shadow Puppets

Draw, cut, stick and bend creatures, animals, monsters, and people to life! Add moveable limbs and play with light and shadow.

Taking inspiration from the quirky, cut-out characters, monsters and hidden silhouettes creeping in our galleries we will explore artwork that hangs upside down and lurks in the shadows.

Felt beads and balls

Petone Settlers Museum

Wednesday 19 April, 10am or 1pm Ages 8+. Book in at dowse.org.nz

Experiment with wool and learn how to needle felt wool colours to create beads. Thread the beads to create your own pendant or throw them at a friend! Get hands-on with wool and see how this material can be used in so many different ways today and as blankets and other things made by the old Petone Woollen Mill.

Mini Diorama

Create your own diorama - a world in a mini box! Sculpt, collage, paint and curate your own scene. Together we will explore Unhinged: Opening the Door to the Dowse collection to get your ideas ticking! We’ll look closely at Debra Bustin’s work and learn how to make things pop out to create a three-dimensional scene.
