WHAT DISTURBS me? is n o t t h e wish o f some s t u d e n t s t o further t h e i r education a s much a s t h e y c a n , b u t t h a t many young p e o p l e a r e unwillingly pushed i n t o the educational cycle. S u r v e y s have shown t h a t a n emphasis i s p l a c e d on education s o adolescents may m a i n t a i n t h e i r s o c i a l p o s i t i o n or move up s o c i ally. Often t h i s i s b a s i c a l l y t o please parents who without question expeat t h e i r c h i l d r e n to complete c o l l e g e and p e r h a p s s e e k an education higher t h a n that. College edmated youngsters have become s t a t u s symbols j u s t like b i g h o u s e s and c a r s . The j o b s i t u a t i o n i s an o t h e r one which c a n push uninterested students i n t o college. The n u d e r of jobs with degree r e q u i r e ments have i n c r e a s e d i n recent years. Thus, s t u d e n t s wishing t o s e e k employment f o l lowing h i g h s c h o o l , often h e s i t a t e , f e a r i n g lack of a degree w i l l automaticall y d i s q u a l i f y them f o r any position. Students themselves a r e sometimes t o blame f o r bei n g i n a n unwanted p r e d i cament. Few w i l l t a k e a stand against pressure from p a r e n t s and p o t e n t i a l

sider entering jobs as w e l l a s col1ege.A s t u d e n t s h o u l d n o t be made t o f e e l ashamed of not entering college. P e r h a p s i f more y o u t h s were f a m i l i a r with t h e "School of Hard Knocks", w e would n o t have s o many unhappy c o l l e g e s t u d e n t s rebelling, tripping out, committing suicide and generally disrupting t h e i r lives.
