Raising of the Participation Age The Government has made changes to the age at which young people can leave education and training. Young people are now required to stay in education or training until they turn 17 and from 2015 the age will increase to 18. However this does not mean that you have to stay at school, other post-16 options include: • Full-time education (this could be at a college or school) • An Apprenticeship • Part-time education or training if you are employed

We also offer a range of part-time and higher education courses visit www.huntingdon.ac.uk/courses for details.

Access to Higher Education Our Access programmes are suitable for you if you would like to study at university but have left school without the usual Level 3 qualifications such as A Levels. Our courses will teach you how to approach study and different learning techniques that you will need during your studies at university. You will be encouraged and supported to become a successful and independent learner. Each course covers units of study relevant to your chosen diploma pathway. We will help you to develop the knowledge, skills and confidence you need to prepare you for university. However, you will need to be at a required standard of literacy and numeracy in order to be able to complete the course. This standard usually requires you to have GCSE English and maths at Grade C or above (we may accept equivalencies in certain circumstances subject to university entrance criteria). You will be assigned a tutor at the start of the course. The tutor will closely monitor and track your progress and be able to help you reach your potential. Many of our students go on to secure places at university and develop careers in a wide range of specialist subjects.
