BREAKFAST

The Chalet in Eureka was purchased by Vera Johnson March 1, 1975. The building was originally an ice cream parlor and only seated eight people. By 1981 the restaurant had expanded to nearly double its size and became known for its hamburgers and soft serve ice cream. Over the years, with more remodeling and hard work it has turned into the business that it is today. The Chalet is a favorite of locals and visitors alike. They are known for having some of the finest omelettes in Humboldt County. Using only the freshest ingredients available, the restaurant has won the Times Standard’s restaurant awards for “Best Breakfast” and “Best of the North Coast” many times over. They offer great food, excellent service, a warm friendly atmosphere, and serve a complete breakfast and lunch menu all day. Except for a minor repair job due to fire damage, The Chalet in Eureka has been open 365 days a year for the past 36 years. And while Vera is not part of the daily operation of the restaurant anymore, the business is still part of the family. Her son Bill, a retired warrant officer from the U.S. Marine Corps, now manages the restaurant, making sure the same dedication and service that have made The Chalet a local favorite since 1975 still continue today.
