If I Were Water

by Lahab Assef Al-Jundi

I would want to be the oceans.

I use the plural, because

all oceans are one body

embracing our planet.

-

Clouds would be created from me

traveling the world over

taking rain to all thirsty corners.

-

Rivers would be born and renewed

bringing beauty to the landscape.

Sustaining every living creature.

-

Tears would be made from me

speaking the silent language of hearts

when emotions overflow their cups.

-

I would transform myself

into tiny droplets of dew

on blades of grass in Spring mornings

when existence sings of longing for the eternal sea.
