Introduction

During this report I will be investigating whether principles of sustainability limits design potential, as I come to find out if standards of sustainability such as passivhaus principles, can limit the aesthetics of a building. This is important because if my research concludes that it doesn’t affect the aesthetics of a building, I can then encourage people to use the passivhaus principles and by answering this research question I can solve the problem of assuming sustainability isn’t aesthetically appealing.

This question will be explored, by firstly researching into aesthetics and gathering primary research, through a questionnaire, then moving on to looking at sustainability, but mainly passivhaus principles. The report will take into consideration the group task we did, where me and other students investigated into six different case studies, which lead me to selecting Larch House and Lark Rise, as they are passivhaus buildings, which I will then compare against each other. Once this research has been thoroughly explored, I will have a clear understanding if the question for this report has a clear conclusion.
