Philosophy
For a better world No one appreciates the value of good sleep as much as someone who had had troubling sleeping. My father, Balthasar Hüsler, was a troubled sleeper for years. His back pain kept him awake many nights. No bed in the world seemed able to help him. Basic questions about sleep and bedding arose for him. They are questions that we still deal with daily at Hüsler Nest. What is healthy sleep? How does one lie properly? When do we really feel res ted and comfortable? My father was convinced that the answer to these question had someth ing to do with harmony and balance. Harmony is the successful interaction of several parts to form a whole. We are part of nature. Although we may often strive against nature during the day, we should always return to it at night. A good bed has to harmonise with the sleeper and accommodate to his or her i ndividual anatomic characteristics and personal sleeping habits. And a good bed should be natural, because only natural materials create the kind of comfortable atmosphere that lets us recover our natural inner strength and energy. These insights led my father to successfully design and build the first Hüsler Nest thirty years ago. The bed became his source of personal strength, and Hüsler Nest’s story of success had its start. Thousands of people now sleep
in beds made by Hüsler Nest. They have found a place where they can switch off and recharge. A bed in which they can be themselves. Where they can experience time, leisure and maybe even inspiration. Where they can abandon and then rediscover themselves. Where they can lay down the burdens of the day. A Hüsler Nest is a place where you can feel right at home, relax away from the hustle and bustle of every day and rediscover the things that are truly important in life. If everyone who sleeps in a Hüsler Nest is just a little better rested, a little fitter and a little more confident, then this is our contribution to making the world a better place. This and our appreciation of our own Hüsler Nest at home is our motivation for making the most of our work at Hüsler Nest every day.

Raw materials
The natural challenge Wood, wool and natural fibre – a Hüsler Nest is made exclusively of natural products. Our materials come from sustainable and controlled production – out of respect for nature and the nature of people. We know our suppliers. They put the same high demands on them selves that we do. Our work would be much easier if we weren’t committed to working only with natural products. Industrially pro duced raw materials are ordered and pro cessed quickly. Natural products, however, depend on production cycles and harvest yields. This is why they cost more and the
raw materials need to be subject to continuous quality control. It takes experience, time and passion to work in partnership with nature. Refraining from the use of chemicals and metals and focusing on gentle processes and sustainability takes commitment. Nature challenges us every day. It cannot be stan dardised. It teaches us humility. However, we feel this challenge also enriches our lives – and success confirms our approach.

The earth’s “green lung”, construction mate rial for generations, renewable fuel used from the beginning of human history. An incre dibly diverse resource, wood has been an im portant contributing factor in the success of mankind. Wood provides warmth and safety – just what we need and want in a bed. In the Hüsler Nest, wood also ensures an optimal balance of moisture, and in our unique Liforma unit, it ensures ergonomically correct rest throughout the night.
For millennia, people have protected themsel ves against the cold with wool. Virgin sheep’s wool has natural thermoregulating properties. Wool fibres can store up to 33% of their dry weight in moisture, while the surface of the fibre repels water. Since the wool conveys liquid quickly, it never feels moist. Up to 85% of the volume of woollen goods consists of air. This makes them excellent heat insulators. Wool is also flameretardant, which enhances safety. In contrast to synthetic fibres, it does not easily absorb smells (e.g. sweat) or dirt and it is natu rally selfcleaning – odours smells are expelled into the air. This means that after just a short period of airing, wool will smell neutral and fresh again. All you need to do is air out the overlay at regular intervals.
Natural latex Latex is produced from the rubber tree (Hevea brasiliensis). This tree is a member of the spurge family and is originally from South America. Natural latex mattresses represent the top quality segment on the mattress market. They remain elastic for a very long time. Latex is bacteriostatic and does not require any chemical treatment. It also provides for a good thermal balance and repels moisture.

A genuine natural product that awakens associ ations of paradise. Coconut fibres, sometimes referred to as “coir”, are produced from coconut shells. Processed into boards, we use them in our products, as they provide for outstanding ventilation. Coconut fibres are very strong and elastic and are long lasting.
Maize – an unusual material to produce an unusual bed? Not at all. Maize originated in Mexico and has many advantages. We use maize fibres in combination with Tencel® to fill quilts and overlays. It is fluff y and heatinsulating and is a washable alternative for people who suffer from allergies. Maize fibre is produced from renewable resources.
Cotton Cotton is a very old cultivated plant which we use as a material in our covers and sheets. It is gentle, breathable and washable and absorbs up to 65% of its weight in water. Cotton is therefore an ideal material from which to make the covers and cases for our quilts, pillows and overlays. We only use cotton grown in a natural crop rotation and processed in an en vironmentally friendly manner, so you can rest in comfort knowing that care was taken to protect the environment.
Tencel® We also use Tencel® fibres in our quilts, pillows and overlays. Tencel® fibres are ecologically produced out of pure cellulose from eucalyptus trees. The fibres have outstanding properties. They are soft as silk, strong as polyester, cool like linen, warm like virgin sheep’s wool and more absorbent than cotton.

Standing strong in life Life can be oppressive – literally. The suppor ting element of your body, your spine, is subject to severe strain every day. In doing their job, the intervertebral discs lose fluid in the course of the day. Lying in a correct position when sleeping permits them to regenerate overnight and reabsorb the fluid they lost. Sleeping in the wrong kind of bed will lead to back pain in the long term. A Hüsler Nest is more than just a bed. It is a veritable sleeping system – one that is highly adaptable. When sleeping, we

Not a myth: The origin of our upright gait
Our spine permits us to walk upright. It is the central support of our body. The interverte bral discs – the movable elements between the vertebrae – make the spine highly flexible. The intervertebral discs enable us to turn, bend and stretch. Adults are up to two centimetres shorter in the evening than in the morning as a result of the constant strain put upon the intervertebral discs in the course of a day. Lying in too soft a bed deforms the spine – all night long, it curves as the mattress sags. This prevents the intervertebral discs from taking up the fluids they need to regenerate. If the bed is too hard, pressure points can hamper

The place where climate change is needed
Everybody is talking about climate change. How much the earth’s atmosphere may heat up in the coming years is something we can not judge. However, we do know that we would suggest a climate change at home if you are not already sleeping naturally and healthily in a Hüsler Nest. It is a fact that on average we lose between three and seven decilitres of body fluids through sweating at night. Sweat is composed of waste products, toxins and water. If you are sleeping on a con ventional mattress, this moisture will remain in your pyjama, covers and mattress due to a lack of air circulation. The hot and humid
climate in your bed is uncomfortable and cau ses you to throw off your covers. The damp fabric cools off quickly. You may become cold and wake up, thus interrupting your natural sleep pattern. The next morning you’ll feel tired and listless. Hüsler Nest uses materials that breathe, quickly transport moisture away and facilitate the circulation of air, thereby creating pleasantly dry, healthy sleeping conditions.

The overlay was an innovation by Balthasar Hüsler. He was the first manufacturer to sepa rate wool from the rest of the sleeping system. The overlay of 100% natural virgin sheep’s wool can thus unfold its full moistureregula ting potential. Regular airing out and gentle fluffi ng activates the selfcleaning properties of the fibres. Your overlay will remain hygie nically fresh for up to seven years, after which you can easily replace it. Your bed will feel like new.
We believe that sleeping on the right mattress is like sleeping on air – you can barely feel it. Hüsler Nest mattresses are made entirely of natural latex. This makes them more supple and flexible than ordinary mattresses. They are equally elastic across the entire surface. This prevents pressure points, supports circu lation and ensures the best adjustment to the contours of your body. Our mattresses are available in five different hardnesses.

The Liforma unit is a formal and functional unit in one. It was developed by Balthasar Hüsler and is still the basis on which the Hüsler Nest Original is built. It is made of two layers of trimelles placed closely together. They make it possible for the Hüsler Nest to perfectly ad just to your personal requirements. The trimel les accommodate the contours of your body to perfectly support you throughout the night. Two inwardly offset longitudinal latex strips ensure equal elasticity across the entire width of the bed, irrespective of the sleeper’s size and weight.
As unique as the Hüsler Nest sleep system may be, our frame inserts are made to fit virtually any bedstead. The frame is of naturalfi nish, solid wood with two longitudinal strips on which the Liforma unit is situated. Frame inserts are available in a fixed version or with adjus table back and/or leg rests. And, of course, it is completely free of metal parts. Our range also features frame inserts with two or four motors.

In the right position once a day. Natural latex mattresses represent the top quality segment on the mattress market. They are made from the bark juice of the rubber tree and are guaranteed to be free of chemically produced rubber components. Natural latex mattresses have an unprecedented point elas ticity that far exceeds that of foam rubber. They are also much more durable and stable in their shape. Natural latex is bacteriostatic and therefore does not need to be treated with
antibacterial substances (e.g. fungicides, pestici des, herbicides). Bacteria and dust mites have hardly a chance. 100% pure natural latex is heatand moisture-regulating. Millions of small air chambers endow natural latex with a long-las ting point elasticity – the mattress gives at exactly the point where pressure is applied, even in small amounts.

The Original Hüsler Nest natural latex mattress is available in two degrees of hardness: soft and medium. Both versions are ten centime tres thick. The entire natural latex mattress is packed in a cover of the fi nest cotton knit, which can be removed and easily washed at 60° C. The cover is highly airpervious and very lightweight. It is always combined with an overlay.
The 100% natural latex core is covered with fine tricot. It is packed in a padded cover of maize fibres. An overlay of wool or, on request, washable maize fibres is also included. The overlay is connected to the cover with a zip and can be easily removed. The De Luxe natural latex mattress is available in five versions: 10 cm, soft or medium, 13 cm, soft or medium and 13 cm, Honey.

Stay comfortable and dry – even when it’s hot. We promise, you will stay dry and the tempe rature in your bed will not fluctuate. Since a sleeper loses between three and seven decilitres of sweat per night, this is not an easy task. When you sweat, you may throw off your blan ket, cool off too much and then wake up as a consequence. The Hüsler Nest overlay, which is placed on the mattress separately, prevents this. It dissipates moisture quickly. We use only
natural, breathable materials for our overlays, including 100% virgin sheep’s wool from Switzerland and a combination of Tencel® and maize fibres. With our natural overlays, you can enjoy your night in hygienically dry slee ping conditions – free from overheating, moisture accumulation and cold spells.

The Classic When Balthasar Hüsler developed the first Hüsler Nest, he redefined the concept of “bed”. For comfortable sleep throughout the night, many components play a role and must be perfectly attuned. Every component is signifi cant and nothing is left to chance. The Liforma unit has a support function. The mattress ensures that you can lie comfortably. The over lay provides for dry sleeping conditions. The first overlay developed by Balthasar Hüsler is referred to today as the “Classic”. It is made of 100% natural virgin sheep's wool and has a cover made of breathable tricot and calicot cotton. It is part of the history of Hüsler Nest.

The lower part of the cover is made of highquality stitched cotton reinforced with a Âcoconut board. The overlay is attached with a zip and can be easily removed for airing. The overlays are available in sheep’s wool or maize fibres. They are covered in a fine cotton knit that offers a unique, cuddly feel.

Developed by Balthasar Hßsler, the Liforma unit is the basis around which Designa is built. It is made of two layers of trimelles placed closely together. The trimelles adjust to the contours of your body to perfectly support you throughout the night. Being awake is enjoyable, even in bed. And in the right bed, you will gladly spend more time than absolutely necessary, particularly if it has a frame that can be com fortably fastened in the sitting position. This frame turns your bed into a perfect spot to read books – or even to write them. The frame

The sophisticated mechanism lets you sit, raise your legs or sit with your legs raised at the s ame time. The frame insert with two motors is available in two versions. Both have an adjustable leg rest. One version includes a function that raises the back so your position is more comfortable when you are sitting up right. With our special construction, we ensure

Frame insert with four motors Our top model permits individual settings in nearly all positions. The upper body and head rests can be adjusted separately. The upper and lower leg can be adjusted and positioned individually. This offers you optimal flexibi足 lity for every situation. The frame is operated comfortably via a wireless remote control. You can programme two positions in the r足 emote control unit and call them up again at any time. With our special construction, we ensure that no closed metal circuits are present and
