FESTIVAL INTERNACIONAL DE CINE DE HUESCA
ESTE AÑO VA DE NÚMEROS: DOS MIL DOCE, DOSCIENTOS, CUARENTA, DIEZ
Q
ué gran intuición la de Chema Madoz al brindarnos esta imagen para el Festival Internacional de Cine de Huesca en este 2012. Una puerta, un vano, un agujero practicado en la pared. Un espacio que nos invita a transitar por él, que nos permite pasar de la oscuridad a la luz, que nos ofrece la posibilidad de curiosear, que nos obliga a imaginar lo que hay al otro lado. Y para iniciar este viaje tenemos que apartar unas tiras de películas colgadas en un umbral, como si de una cortina veraniega se tratara, una cortina de esas que se elaboran con cuentas que al tocarlas producen un sonido inconfundible clin, clin, clin,… .Y así, de la mano de Madoz, y esperando que llegue el sol confortador del verano, les invitamos a adentrarse en esta 40 edición de uno de los Festivales más longevos de nuestro país. Cuatro son los Concursos de Cortometrajes que seguimos ofreciéndoles. Dos concursos que engloban la producción de países iberoamericanos consolidando así los ya tradicionales puentes de comunicación entre creadores de ambos lados del Atlántico. Dos concursos de cortos documentales que resaltan la especificidad de este género en auge en los últimos tiempos. Por lo que a los Premios honoríficos se refiere, intuimos que todos los lectores conocerán extensamente o en parte la obra de los dos cineastas galardonados en esta edición. A ambos les hemos tenido presentes en Huesca a través de sus obras. Icíar Bollaín, Premio Ciudad de Huesca, incluso ha concursado aquí. Por su parte, Stephen Frears, Premio Luis Buñuel, es gran admirador de la obra del maestro y sabemos que darle un premio con su nombre le llena de satisfacción. Nos parecía que en un mundo global, una economía global, unas comunicaciones globales, y todas las globalizaciones que ustedes quieran, era hora de globalizar también nuestra mirada y ampliarla al ámbito internacional. Por ello, Una mirada global, vendrá a sustituir la Muestra de cine europeo. Y no. No pretendíamos ser originales. Sabíamos que este año coincidiríamos con muchas organizaciones o entidades que pondrían el ojo en el mismo lugar. Pero no nos importaba. 200 son muchos años. Además, ninguno de los implicados iba a estar para el siguiente centenario (eso estaba claro). Así pues, decisión tomada, La Pepa iba a estar presente en la programación. Cuatro serán los títulos mostrados en nuestra particular Ventana clásica con los que, a modo de pequeño homenaje, el Festival conmemorará esta efeméride ineludible.
Una selección de cortometrajes galardonados desde que Alcances ha fijado su interés en el documental, nutrirán la sección ya también clásica, No se quedan Cortos. Parecería cuarenta una cifra de entrada plena a la madurez, no estamos seguros, pero 40 son las ediciones de nuestro festival y 40 son los años que celebran Women Make Movies, la productora y distribuidora de Nueva York cuyo sólido empeño en difundir el trabajo de mujeres realizadoras lleva años recogiendo frutos. De ellas hemos elegido el trabajo de aquellas cuya obra o procedencia se enmarcaba en el ámbito iberoamericano. Como ya viene haciéndose desde hace muchos años, la presencia de obras aragonesas tendrá también su espacio particular. Con siete cortometrajes y un largometraje esperamos atraer la curiosidad de lo cercano. De la mano de La Linterna Mágica, y con 10 años de experiencia en sus espaldas, invitaremos a los más pequeños a descubrir qué es eso de las imágenes en movimiento. Pero la programación no se para aquí. Durante cinco noches y Bajo las estrellas queremos disfrutar de grata compañía, música envolvente y cortos especiales. Contemplando la belleza del cielo nocturno esperamos podernos reunir con todos aquellos que crean en el cortometraje como forma de expresión particular. Y para finalizar, queremos dar una calurosa bienvenida al Festival Internacional de Cine de Morelia de México que celebra su décimo aniversario. 10 años de existencia. Un evento fílmico profundamente amado por el que fuera fundador, inspirador, dinamizador y director del Festival de Cine de Huesca, Pepe Escriche ¿Cómo no otorgarle el Premio que lleva su nombre? La pregunta era casi baldía. Iba de números ¿no es cierto? y de mayor a menor. La particular coyuntura socio-económica nos ha obligado a apretarnos el cinturón. ¡Qué expresión más engañosa! Cuando uno se aprieta el cinturón o bien sufre por la incomodidad, o bien ha adelgazado… no siempre, ambas particularidades, signos de buen augurio, pero tampoco de lo contrario. Por el camino se han quedado programas, proyectos, planes, deseos y muchas más cosas que una edición con restricciones, aconsejaba aparcar para mejores tiempos. Y eso es lo que hemos hecho: aparcar (que no destruir) todo aquello que no hemos podido incluir, para poderlo desarrollar en un futuro próximo. ¡Disfruten ustedes del Festival! THIS IS THE YEAR OF NUMBERS: TWO THOUSAND AND TWELVE, TWO HUNDRED, FORTY, TEN
W
hat great intuition Chema Madoz had by giving us this image for the Huesca International Film Festival in this 2012. A door, a space, a hole practised in the wall. A space that invites us to go through it, that allows us to go from the darkness into the light, that offers us the possibility of prying, that forces us to imagine what is on the other side. To initiate this trip we need to hang a few film strips on a threshold, as if it was a summer curtain, one of those curtains that when you touch them produces an unmistakable sound clin, clin, clin, … .and this way, guided by Madoz, and waiting for that comforting summer sun, we invite you to join this 40th edition of one of the oldest Festivals of our country. We are still offering four short film contests. Two contests with productions from Iberoamerican countries thus strengthening the links of communication between filmmakers on both sides of the Atlantic. Two short film documentary contests that highlight the specific nature of this genre in recent times. As far as Honorary Awards are concerned, we believe that most readers will extensively or in part know the filmography of the two filmmakers being awarded this year. Icíar Bollaín, City of Huesca Award, who in the past participated in our contests. Stephen Frears, Luis Buñuel Award, is a great admirer of the maestro and we know that awarding him a prize with the maestro’s name will be a great joy. It seemed to us that in a global world, a global economy, a few global communications, and all the globalizations that you want, it was time to globalize our outlook and extend it to the international scene. As such, A Global View, will replace the Showcase of European Cinema. And no, we were not trying to be original. We knew that this year we would coincide with many organizations or entities that would put their eye in the same place. But it did not matter. 200 are a lot of years. Also, none of the ones involved was going to be around for the following centenary (that was clear). And so, with the decision taken, La Pepa was going to be present in our programming. Four films will be part of our Classic Window programme with which, as a small tribute, the Festival will commemorate this unavoidable anniversary of events. A selection of prize-winning short films since Alcances turned its interest to documentaries will form part of our classic section, They Don’t Get Short.
Forty seemed like an age for entering maturity, we are not sure, but 40 are the editions of our festival and 40 are the years that Women Make Movies also celebrate, the producer and distributor from New York with a solid base for spreading the works of women filmmakers. From them we have chosen the works of those filmmakers whose films cover the Iberoamerican scene. Just as we have been doing for many years, the presence of Aragonese works will have also its own space. With seven short films and one feature film we hope to attract the curiosity of that close by. On the other hand, The Magic Lantern, and with 10 years of experience, we will invite the smallest audience to discover what that thing about the images in movement is. But the programming does not stop here. For five nights and Under the Stars we want to enjoy pleasant company, surrounded by music and special short films. Contemplating the beauty of the night sky, we hope to be able to get together with all those who believe in short films as a form of particular expression. And to conclude, we want to give a warm welcome to the Morelia International Film Festival in Mexico that this year celebrates its tenth anniversary. 10 years of existence. A cinematic event deeply loved by the founder, inspiring, dynamic and former director of the Huesca International Film Festival, Pepe Escriche. How could we not give them the Award that carries his name? The answer was more than evident. This was about numbers, right? And from big to small. The particular socioeconomic situation has forced us to tighten our belts. What a deceptive expression! When one tightens their belt or suffers from the discomfort, or one has lost weight … not always, both peculiarities are signs of good augury, but neither otherwise. Along the way there have remained programs, projects, plans, wishes and many more things that an edition with restrictions, was advised to leave for better times. And this is what we have done: to leave out (but not forgotten) all that that we could not have include, for the near future. Enjoy the Festival!
