Have your say on the budget and in the Kirklees Residents’ Survey Residents in Kirklees are being encouraged to take part in an online budget consultation, and also share their views in a separate “Your place, your say” survey. “Your place, your say” has been distributed to randomly selected households and is available online at surveys.questions.co.uk/kirklees.asp where it can be completed by anyone aged 18 or over living in Kirklees. All Kirklees Library and Information Centres offer free internet use for those wishing to take part online who do not have access to the internet at home. The survey is a fantastic opportunity for residents to help shape things for the future. It asks about their views on the local area, local public services, their needs, priorities and goals for the future. It’s a chance for the people of Kirklees to tell the council and its partners about the things that are important to them. The survey must be completed online or posted back by November 25 to be used in the results. For help to complete the survey contact Qa Research’s confidential freephone helpline on 0800 980 9030 on weekdays between 10am and 2pm or email survey.info@qaresearch.co.uk. The council and NHS Kirklees plan to release information about the results of the survey in the New Year on the council website, www.kirklees.gov.uk, and in the council’s magazine which is delivered to all households. A further online consultation will also be available on the Kirklees website in November for members of the public to have their say on the budget setting process and the council’s priorities. Find out more about other consultations you can get involved in at www.kirklees.gov.uk/involve

THURSDAY 20 OCTOBER, 7.30PM KIRKLEES CONCERT SEASON BBC PHILHARMONIC – THE DRAMATIC SYMPHONY HUDDERSFIELD TOWN HALL Last season the BBC Philharmonic thrilled our audience with a magnificent performance of Mozart’s great Symphony No. 40 in G minor. This season they open with the so called ‘Little G minor’, but there’s nothing ‘little’ about this work. Written when the composer was just seventeen, it’s a full-blooded, stormy, dramatic symphony and a great prelude to Sibelius’ atmospheric concerto and Brahms’ final symphony. Brahms was a composer able to meld the classical architecture of the past with the rich expressiveness of his own era, and nowhere more so than in the work that crowned his symphonic career. Mozart: Symphony No. 25 in G minor Sibelius: Violin Concerto Brahms: Symphony No. 4 in E minor Conductor: Jonathan Schiffman Violin: Alexandra Soumm Talking Music: 6.40pm Tickets: £7.50-£23.50 (plus concessions) from Kirklees Booking Offices

Huddersfield’s Festival of Light 2011 Huddersfield is set to come alive again with Festival of Light – three colourful nights of light inspired entertainment from Friday 2 to Sunday 4 December. Visitors this year can expect another magnificent weekend. As dusk falls across the town, there will be a variety of performances and attractions to delight and amaze, both indoors and out. The headline attraction for 2011 is the internationally renowned Grupo Puja who will be performing their high octane cosmic themed show K:osmos twice over the weekend. The Spanish/ Argentinean troupe will be bringing their majestic mix of rock music and daredevil airborne acrobatics to St George’s Square on Friday and Saturday evening. Additional performances confirmed so far are contemporary dance group Retouramont who will be performing a spectacular suspended ballet down the walls of Huddersfield Art Gallery; and French light installation artists TILT will be showcasing their magical garden of giant illuminated flowers. Jigantics who have lit up many music festivals this summer will also be displaying their tremendous ‘tulips’. The Winter Food and Drink Market, a perfect opportunity to eat outside and soak up the festive atmosphere, is back for a second year by popular demand. And the Christmas Art Market, this year in the Art

Gallery, will be a great place to pick up unique Christmas gifts from some of the area’s best artists. Both will be open late until 10pm on Friday and Saturday evening and during the day on Sunday. And of course it wouldn’t be Festival of Light without Sunday’s grand firework finale in St George’s Square to bring celebrations to an impressive close. With performers and shows still being confirmed, organisers Kirklees Council will be making further announcements about the festival in coming weeks.
