Retro romance
New season wedding dresses are oozing with classic features, taking their cues from history’s most glamorous eras GLAMOUR is back in vogue for weddings! If you’re currently searching for your dream wedding gown, then look out for styles from a bygone age with inspiration from the golden days of Hollywood glamour and calflength tea dresses from the 1950’s. Colours too are changing with `blush’ being the shade of the moment with other pale pastels such as lemon and blue taking their lead from the 1950’s. Look out for vintagestyle 50s dresses in colours which were popular during that era. If you’re choosing a calf-length gown, then you can really go to town on some stunning shoes and make a real statement. Romantic lace is also making a comeback for summer 2013, some of which is inspired by 1920’s flapper-style designs.
NECKLINES Necklines are under the spotlight this summer with unusual shaping and exciting use of lace. Floral dress designs are `big’ and this is often carried through to the neckline with
use of lace petals to create an unusual look. Halter-neck designs are also available for wedding gowns and make a great summer statement. Halter-neck gowns, often with feature lace, create a great look from both the front and back, showing off slender shoulders and a hint of skin.
SLEEVES If you want to cover your arms, you’re in luck as sleeves are making a comeback. PEPLUMS Wedding dress designers are carrying on the current fascination with peplums. Peplum designs were made popular in the 1940s by Christian Dior and have made a comeback more recently. This feminine style
is ideal for brides with bigger busts as the design will give them an hour-glass figure and will cinch in the waist. Peplums are generally added to an otherwise simple design to create a sleek profile. For a softer look, choose a peplum in a lace or tulle design which will still define the waist.

A couple of real characters... We take a look behind the scenes of Dom and Leanne Gregson’s spectacularly colourful Disney Pixar themed wedding… WHEN Dom and Leanne Gregson decided to tie the knot, they wanted their big day to be unique; one for their family and friends to remember for years to come. So for their recent wedding at The Venue in Barkisland, the couple decided on a Disney Pixar inspired multi-coloured theme. Leanne, who is a Batley primary school teacher, said: “We both love all 13 Pixar films and decided to incorporate film characters and a host of colour into the wedding.” Pixar films include the hugely popular Toy Story series as well as Bugs Life, Finding Nemo and Ratatouille which are also favourites of the couple's young son Charlie. With all these characters and colours in mind, Leanne set about making many of the wedding day accessories herself including buttonholes and bouquets, all made from large colourful buttons. She said: “My wedding dress was just about the only thing that was traditional about the whole day. I dressed my five bridesmaids in
all different colours and the best man and ushers tied in with the colour theme by each of them co-ordinating their socks and ties with one of the bridesmaids.

The celebrations were rounded off with an evening reception with music from a Motown band. “There were so many people who helped us enjoy a great day. I traveled to the wedding with my dad in a Mercedes Roadster. This was nice as it was only a two-seater car so my dad had to drive me to my wedding as well as walk me down the aisle.’’ Leanne and Dom, who live in Moldgreen, are all set to enjoy a 10-day honeymoon in New York later this year. The couple would like to thank three friends who helped them on the big day: photographer Carol Kitson, make-up specialist Caroline Marsh of Delicate Elegance and cakemaker Claire Sheard from Crumbs sandwich shop in Brighouse who placed Eve and Wall-e film characters on top of the rocky road cake. A great day was had by all.

Food for thought... Make sure your wedding food lingers on your guests’ lips long after they’ve scoffed the last petit four WEDDING receptions ain’t what they used to be. At one time the reception following the ceremony was very traditional and formal with a three-course meal for guests, followed by the speeches and handing out of the wedding cake. Now it’s often a case of `anything goes’ and the wedding reception is usually more informal with a buffet or even food like fish and chips, pie and peas or luxury hot dogs. Some brides and grooms call on the services of an ice cream van to provide the dessert!
Other ideas for outdoor food include posh kebabs, signature ice creams, soup and roast beef sandwiches or even an afternoon tea with delicate sandwiches, a selection of cakes and cream scones.
