LUMBERJACKS IN THE PROS

Humboldt State has a rich history of football excellence and many Lumberjacks have gone on to play the professional game. Below are some former HSU football players that took their talents to the next level. With so many former players in the pros, this list is far from complete. Richard Ashe, played in the National Football League in the CFL for Sacramento and Birmingham, before finishing for the L.A. Rams and N.Y. Giants and in the Arena Football his career in the AFL playing for the San jose Sabercats from League for the Arizona Rattlers, was a Lumberjack from 1985- 1996-98. 88. Freeman Baysinger, drafted by New England Patriots in 1991, played in the Canadian Football League for Calgary and Sacramento. He wore the Green and Gold from 1988-91. Mike Bettiga, an HSU Hall of Famer, was a Second Team All-Conference wide receiver at HSU from 1972-73. He went on to play for the 49ers.

TAYLOR BOGGS (No. 60) anchors the Bears offensive line.

Taylor Boggs, a center for the Jacks from 2007-10, signed with the N.Y. Jets in 2011, but a serious injury cut that stop short. He signed a contract with the Chicago Bears in 2013 and signed an extension in 2014.

Quarterback CHRIS DIXON

Quarterback Chris Dixon, suited up for the Lumberjacks from 2002-03. He played for the Indoor Football League and in the AFL. He spent eight seasons in the IFL and threw for Chris Butterfield, who played at HSU from 1993-96, more than 25,000 yards and 600 touchdowns. He is head played for the L.A. Avengers, the Portland Forest Dragons and coach of the IFL’s Billings Wolves. the Oklahoma Wranglers, all of the AFL, from 1996-2005. Kurt Garl played for HSU from 1980-81, signed with the Steve Cheek, a punter for HSU from 1997-99, led NFL 49ers, then played two seasons in the CFL. Europe in punting for two years, and played in the NFL for the Giants, Eagles, Texans and Chiefs. Len Gotshalk, a Lumberjack from 1969-70, played six seasons for the Atlanta Falcons. Omar Daniel, a Lumberjack from 1995-98, played for the Billings Thunderboldt (2000) and the Southern Oregon Heat Linebacker David Harper played for the Dallas Cowboys in (2001), both of the AFL. the NFL. After his stint with the Cowboys, Harper played for Sacramento, San Antonio and Ottawa of the CFL. Harper was Rodney Dickerson, a Lumberjack from 1991-92, played San Antonio’s leading tackler in 1995 and was chosen to the
