Schools out, strategies for a positive experience
My dear Balas,
It’s that time of year again when the days are heating up and the spirit of care-free living takes over as school starts to pause for summer break. You have worked hard all year fullfilling the needs of the school and home. My heartiest congratulations to you all.
My dear Balas, you might be engaged in some or the other activity during the summer vacation. Some of you may be enjoying your time with grandparents here in the US or might be visiting Bharat. Some of you might be enrolled in the summer kids yoga camp or might have some sports camp planned for yourself. Some of you might have meet-ups and other online groups or some of you might be just home relaxing. Wherever you are here you might be experiencing sudden shift in your daily structure/ routine. And finding new acquaintances outside. Schools have lot of structures but camps and other places are different. You would be still managing to go with the flow of the day.
Here are some strategies for positive experience
Find a friend, socialize and express your needs If you feel in a certain way become assertive and talk to the teachers around you and tell them how you are feeling Complain less about the other kid Rather become vigilant towards other kid’s needs and see if you can help the kid in any way Observe and respond to the situation rather than jumping to a reaction state
Whenever you are in a situation where you don't know how to deal with some kind of frustration, practice deep breathing. Breath fully in and fully out 3 times. You can also use some of your yoga asanas like sitting in balasana for relaxation if you know of any.
However, give time to yourself alone, become observant towards your own body needs and mind needs. Eat well, exercise and sleep a certain number of hours. And observe how you are feeling.
When you come back home, you feel appreciated towards your parents and thank them for all they have provided to you. You will notice a sudden positivity in you.
Experience of Balas about SSV camp 2024
~By Nishanth Karthikeya Jayanthi, Chetana Shakha
Namaste!! My name is Nishanth Karthikeya.
Today I will be sharing about my SSV experience that happened on May 22nd until May 26th, 2024. Every day at SSV camp we woke up early at 7:00am, fresh up and gathered with other Balas at the Bhojan hall. We all did many activities throughout the day. On the first day we gathered in Mandal and introduced ourselves. We started our activities with book reading. We read some interesting books about “Indra”, “Hanuman”, “Subhash Chandra Bose” and “Jhansi Lakshmi Bai”. After book reading, we started khel. We played many games and I liked “Neer-Theer” and “Math tricky Quiz” very well. They are very funny.
Every day we have breakfast, lunch and dinner on time. We learned to do Bhojan Mantra before having lunch and dinner. After lunch we all went for a walk by singing “Chalo- Bhai-Chalo” geet together. After walking we also learned “Sangh Prarthana”. Daily we learned Niyuddha by following instructions from Didi. We learned how to start and end Shakha, we practiced a “Ramayana” dance and presented it during Manoranjan time. I feel very proud and lucky to attend this amazing camp. Our Didi’s and Shikshaks took very good care of us even when our parents were away from us. I made many new friends, had loads of fun and learned a lot by participating together in these interesting activities.

My Experience at SSV
~By Yatharth Mishra, Chaitanya Shakha
My name is Yatharth Mishra. I am 13 years old and recently attended my Prathamvarsh at SSV in Barry, TX. Before this I had only attended my shakha, Chaitanya Shakha, on and off. I was quite anxious when arriving because I was the only Kishor from my shakha to come here, and it was also my first time attending a Shiksha Varg. We arrived late in the night the first day because it was an eight hour drive from where I lived to the varg. I woke up on time the first day and was really excited. I met a lot of new people and made new friends. The food was also amazing. I salute to the Vyavastha team. They were so dedicated to their work and always ready to do seva with full enthusiasm.
I learned niyuddha, dand, and samata and advanced my yogchap skills. I learned a new simple geet , prathana , slokas and more about the goal and formation of HSS. In my opinion, khel and maha khel were the best part of the day which taught me teamwork. The food was also amazing. I didn’t think I would like the boudhiks, but the topics were interesting. Charcha and samwaad were interesting, and I had views on all the topics discussed. Katha was educational and not boring. Ghosh was my second favorite activity of the day because I learned how to play a new instrument which was exciting. The “Ratri Karyakram” was the most fun activity, but it only happened on two days. Manoranjan gave me a chance to showcase my creativity. Most important thing I learned from SSV was discipline, independence, and time management. Overall, SSV was an exciting and unique experience that I’m glad I attended and will definitely attend next time for my Praveshvarsh.

List of Things I Want to do in Summer
~By Aditri Saraf, Prerana Shakha
been very worthwhile. Middle school is awfully terrifying now that I think about it, but I am sure I will be just fine. Alright, here are some things I would love to do in summer, so let’s begin! The first thing I would like to do for summer is sleep a lot. I usually had to wake up around 6:30 and I never got a good night’s sleep. The second thing I am doing this summer is going to Bharat (India) and I am so excited because this is the first time I am going to Gangotri, because we as a family were supposed to go, but I got unexpectedly sick.
The third thing I would like to do is go swimming with my friends in their backyards. I don't know if we have a community pool, but since I don’t have a pool in my backyard, I want to go to my friends’ houses and swim in their backyard. The fourth thing I would like to do this summer is chill and watch TV. I usually had to sleep at 8:30 on school nights, and the only days I could stay up were Friday and Saturday. The fifth and last thing I would like to do is become more responsible and take care of myself. I am 11 years old now, and I’m going to middle school, so I should be able to take care of myself. That’s all, and Namaste!
